keanefar 1,007 Posted January 13, 2014 so now that we're towards the end of AHSC, how does everyone feels it compares to seasons 1 and 2, and what kind of expectations do you have for s4? Well, I think season 3 has surpassed the others in terms of it's ability to captivate, but truly, nothing will ever top season 1 for me. The plot of that one was soooo genius. Season 2 was great but had too many plot holes and opened up too many stories that it wasn't able to close. The only thing I want from s4 is a carnival theme (even before those fake promo pics). Kinda sucks that Lange won't be the main role but IIRC she wasn't listed as the main role in s1 right? Yet she had a major role... So if her participation is anything like s1, I imagine it'll be just fine. For me: Murder House > Coven > Asylum

Rebel 3,177 Posted January 13, 2014 I'm sure Jessica's role will be a main one as she is in all of the seasons. It's probably not Carnival-themed, even though that'd be cool. I think any theme/setting would be interesting, Ryan Murphy knows how to start great projects e.g. Glee but it gets bad after one season, so AHS is the perfect project for Ryan Murphy. He doesn't have to come up with a continuing plot with the same characters each season and can basically create a new show every season with a trusted team. But this season has been great-- My least favorite so far from all the three seasons, but don't confuse that with me thinking it's bad because it's really not! I just enjoyed the first two more for the excitement they had. This season had its high plot moments but also a lot of weird, slow moments and sub plots that I think the show could've gone without. That said, my favorite characters were all from this season, with the exception of my love for Lana Winters.

Sitar 22,213 Posted January 13, 2014 S3 is just so slow moving that it's aggravating. They could've cut it down to 10 episodes It could benefit from more action. But for the most part it's one storyline and not an Asylum clusterfuck. The only truly unsettling horror moments are the flashbacks to the past
YUNGATA 14,955 Posted January 13, 2014 i defs agree that s3 is kind of slow moving and lacks the horror elements 1 + 2 had, thus turning it more into a supernatural drama a la True Blood. however, i think my biggest problem has been the lack of characterisation. pretty much all of the notable characters this season are based around sass. it's like the writers picked on the fact that everyone loved jessica lange's characterisation of 'kitty got claws' then tried to apply it to the entire cast. i think that has left the show currently lacking in some character development which has ultimately held back the plot. that being said, it's still been a pretty good season and i'm curious about where s4 will go in terms of plot and cast~
Hellion 993 Posted January 14, 2014 so now that we're towards the end of AHSC, how does everyone feels it compares to seasons 1 and 2, and what kind of expectations do you have for s4? Asylum > MH > Coven for me. My exceptions for season four are pretty neutral. This season, while not bad at all, just isn't my favorite and honestly, Ryan doesn't have a great track record for long running shows. Four was when Nip/Tuck for example began it's horrifyingly slow descent into the abysmal bile that was it's finale. S3 is just so slow moving that it's aggravating. They could've cut it down to 10 episodes Really? I thought this season could have stood to be longer. It might not be as packed with themes and stories as Asylum, but the mythology alone this season runs deep. The witches, the Supreme, the hierarchy of the coven, voodoo, magic vs. voodoo, the war, the subtle themes of racism... couple that with a cast of twelve character and it's just far too dense for a thirteen episode run. IMO. I'm sure someone could make it work, but Ryan and co. clearly can't. Granted, we're not getting development from any of those characters and we're only focusing on one, but.

It's called not making it up as you go along
keanefar 1,007 Posted January 14, 2014 do all of u think u r better television writers or something all i can see is whining It's called input? The best part of watching a TV show is discussion, so I'm not sure why you came to this thread if you don't like discussion (I use "discussion" because no, not all of it is whining).
rways 405 Posted January 14, 2014 I've seen a post on ATRL proposing an Orphanage theme for S4! I think it would be interesting even thought it could be a little bit similar to Asylum.
Heaux 1,400 Posted January 14, 2014 Ryan said that Stevie Nicks will be in the final episode and that the first few minutes will be a music video extravanganza, the episodes called The Seven Wonders , so im gonna guess that she'll be peforming this
Hellion 993 Posted January 15, 2014 American Horror Story: Coven is beginning to wrap up its phenomenal season (tonight’s episode is a doozy) but co-creator Ryan Murphy has already begun plotting and planning his fourth installment of the FX franchise…as well as peppering the final episodes with tiny hints as to next year’s plot. “It’s set in 1950,” Murphy reveals exclusively to EW. “If you look historically what happened in the year 1950, there’s some more clues in that year. It’s a period piece. We try and do the opposite of what we’ve done before. Jessica Lange has already started practicing her German accent so I’m very excited!” http://www.spoilertv.com/2014/01/american-horror-story-season-4-year-and.html?m=1

drewby 9,246 Posted January 15, 2014 german? well this seems cold war related then The Cold War was Russia/US and is more in the 60s. however, this could be a very socialist/Red Scare type season (the beginnings of McCarthyism) so I wonder what's going to happen with the Americans since they're on the same network omg what if the tagline was Red Scare Murder House, Asylum, Coven, Red Scare
