Tips for Attending a Lana Concert

I went to the show in Miami, which was somewhat of a "smaller" venue. I drove by the venue at 9 AM and there were already at least 50 people in line (granted, this was a Sunday). I finally made it back to the venue around 1 and there were maybe 200ish people waiting? What ended up happening is that when the doors finally opened, security got trampled and people lost their ever loving minds and the venue line became a free for all. Somehow people who had just been dropped off were getting into the venue before people who stood in line. It was a mess and really dangerous actually. None of this was Lana's managements fault, but the venue had no idea how to prepare for this. My tickets were for GA, but by the time we got down to the floor, there were already way too many people who continued to push and shove and it was dangerous. I made friends with several of the security guards around me and they were kind enough to put me in the seats under a reserved section I wasn't up by the stage, but I did get to see everything and lana was still somewhat close. Her voice is fucking fantastic live and I would love to see her perform again. Have fun!

I got to the venue two hours before it opened and I was behind like 120 people and still got front row.

im going to the toronto show and im leaving my house between 6-7 and im gonna take the subway for an hour so i should arrive between 7-8. If you go a couple hours before, you're not gonna make it. I'm not even sure if i'll make it tbh

Not sure if this helps you, but lana didn't take the stage until 9 pm in Miami. Her opener had a full hour to himself.

You guys are all there to see Lana and no one should be against each other. You don't need to 'put your feet on the fence and push back as hard as you can'... you're just disturbing everyone around you as much as they are disturbing you. CLEARLY you've never been to a show before. People are ruthless and crazy. I do wish it could be your way though, it would make the experience 100x better.

 

But I'll be fine. I'm 6'3 and I'm pretty big and I endured multiple moshpits and pits and everything i used to go to hardcore shows \m/

The problem is that when you are near the front, it is usually not the person behind you pushing. It's the hundreds of people behind you pushing.

my show was fine. All of the pushing was in the middle, except when lana came near my side there was some pushing.

the person pushing you is probably being pushed, they can't help it. and security does nothing. People were talking to them and they shrugged and said theres nothing they can do.

I stuck my butt out and pushed a bit in order to avoid being crushed cause im tiny. its something i had to do to not have my ribs crushed and lose my spot that i have been waiting 10+ hours for. 

tbh if you're considering pit dont complain about people pushing cause that's what you signed up for. If you wanna be comfortable get seats

for my show you had to pick your tickets up at the box office but it was the same line for everyone

and i'd say 5am-6am to be safe but i got there at 8:30 am and i was front. I Nearly didnt make it though i squeezed into a spot on the side

My friends and I got to the auditorium just four hours early. There we two massive lines. We stood at the gate for the first line for about a minute then a security guard came and stood next to us and since nobody else was outside of the gate, we asked if we could just go in and he let us. He was really nice and cool, like what time was he off?. Anyway we stood next to a group of girls who said they'd been there since 7 AM for about four hours. Then we walked in and I got front row.

It really differs at each show. In Connecticut, I showed up at 11:30 and got front row, but in Philly, if I had showed up at 11:30, I would have been farther back. I'd get there at 7 or so to guarantee that you'll get barricade.

I didn't realize how absolutely insane her shows were until my friend in Chicago told me about her experience. Now I'm mildly mortified.

 

I'm going to be staying in Seattle the night before the show at a hotel across the street from the venue, and we had originally been planning to park my car at CenturyLink field around 8am and then wait outside the venue all day, but now I'm wondering if that's even early enough. My friend in Chicago said people camped out overnight. Then again, there are so many factors, and this show is on a Tuesday so it's an odd day, but still.

 

I am in a group of four— myself, my brother, and two girls. We ideally wanted to be close to the stage, so I was wondering how feasible this is and what it would take to get in and make it close to the front. Three of us have pre-sale tickets through Adventures In Wonderland, and the other girl has hers through Ticketmaster; not sure if that matters. I'm a 6'2" 23 year old male and my brother is a 6'3" 21 year old, but his girlfriend and my friend who are going are both petite 20 year old girls, so I'm wondering how that is going to fare. I'm not worried about being able to see since I'm so tall (and presumably taller than most the audience will be), but I'm wondering about them. As I said, we want to be close to the front.

 

The way you guys have described the pits at her concerts though reminds me of punk shows I've been to in the past, and the time I basically had to fight for my life during a Hole concert. It is awful and not fun and you barely can focus on the music because you're mostly just trying to stand up. That said, many of these experiences it seems have been told by younger women, and my friend in Chicago is a petite 5'1" female, so she ran into some trouble; I'm a pretty big guy though and so is my brother, so I don't get shoved around easily. I mean, a Hole concert is like the antithesis of a Lana Del Rey concert— at least I THOUGHT it was until I read horror stories on here.

my concert was fine, and I'm 5". I went to the toronto show, so your's will probably be more wild cause Lana's more popular in the US.  

The pit at my concert holds 600 people, but there was only 400 or 200 there, i dont remember which. 

 

I came at 8:30 AM, and i was 30th in line. If your show is all GA or has a large pit you're probably gonna wanna come earlier, unless you don't mind being a few rows back. My venue was super organized, thankfully. If anyone butt, you'd be moved to the back of the line.

After waiting forever, doors opened around 7:10. Everyone was surprisingly calm. We each got our tickets scanned and put our wrist bands on and they lined us up in another line, but single file. Some people got separated cause of that. at 8:00 they let us into the pit. The line was really organized and no on ran ahead. I showed them my ticket and wrist band and after i ran into the pit. The middle already had about 2 rows but i found a spot in front in the on the side so i took that really quickly. Since there was about an hour until the show still, as time went on, i moved down and I was closer to the middle. There was a fight between 2 people near the back of the pit, cause someone got mad at someone for pushing, but they got kicked out. I suggest you don't complain when people push you cause it's probably not their fault. When the show started most of the pushing was directed to the centre of the stage. Around the second song I saw a girl getting escorted out holding her jaw, so I guess she got hurt. I wasn't pushed much, but there wasn't any personal space, like people's things were skimming my butt. When lana came to my side of the stage thats when the pushing started. I got a firm grip on the barricade, stuck my butt out and held my guard so no one could steal my spot lol. 

 

My advice would be to stay near the sides.

 

Unfortunately, someone pulled her hair so lana only took selfies with like 3 people.  It was an amazing show though, she's flawless. I hope you have a good time at your show.

  I went to her concert in Geneva, so I can help you. Arrive as early as you can ( I arrived at 12:30 and there were only 20 people, but she has become more famous, so~) and bring enough water and food for the day. I am as tall as you ( a bit more I guess) and I can tell you that being tall on the first row is amazing, because I could literally put all of my upper-body past the barrier ( and got to take pics with Lana twice because I was easy to spot lol). I don't know if your show will be organized, but in case it isn't, run as fast as you can and don't be scared to push others ( it felt like I was in the middle of a battlefield xd). When you get to the front, spread your arms while you hold the barrier to secure places for the girls . Good luck and have fun! 

 

  Just one last thing: If you really like her + know the lyrics, PLEASE sing the songs. I'm not European but while in Europe I found out that most people at concerts like to just watch instead of sing and interact with the singer. My concert kind of sucked because of how bored the public was. I'm Brazilian and if you watch one of the shows she did in Brazil, you'll see how happy she was to see everybody singing . ( sorry but I hate this kind of people xd)

if you're willing to wake up really early do it, like get there between 5 and 6. you're lucky to have a hotel across the venue cause you can go back whenever to get stuff and have the other people hold your spot. if you all get there initially at the same time, people probably won't have a problem with some leaving and coming back.

at the Chicago show there were 2 lines, one for credit card and one for will call and the will call line was shorter, so even if you're last for some reason you won't be way in the back. I had a friend who got in the will call Line like 30 minutes before doors opened and he got close to the front (idk how but he made it possible lol)

I think most of the fights and mosh pits or whatever happen in the middle of the pit, when you're up front everybody is pushing but that's the worst factor... nobody's worried about punching people when Lana is right in front of them. I'm really short, I was right up front and I wasn't injured at all. I guess it depends on the people around you but if you stand your ground you'll be fine.

Thanks for the responses so far everyone. I plan on getting there around 6am then with coffee in hand, and I'll probably make everyone in my group do the same— it's a collaborative effort. Haha. We'll have to pay for a parking spot in one of the garages for CenturyLink field and then just sit outside the venue. The fact that the hotel is across the street is very nice, although we aren't staying the night of the concert, so we'll be checking out when we leave at 6am or whenever (we're driving back home to Portland after the show). The plus side of it though is just the fact that we'll be so close and be able to see what's going on at the venue.

 

Some of you knew how large the pits were at your shows, but I've never been to this venue before— it's the WaMu theater. I've heard it can hold between 3-7,00 depending on how they set it up. I am glad it's not seated though, I saw Courtney Love in Seattle last summer at the Moore Theater which was seated— NOT conducive to a hard rock show.

 

ALSO— I have another friend who goes to my university who is going to be there as well with some of her friends, but they're coming up to Seattle the day of and won't be there till 10am. They were going to try and meet Lana when she enters the venue, but I'm not sure leaving a spot in line is worth the attempt. Anyone know anything about this? I'm personally not that concerned about meeting her, just want to get a good view and enjoy the music.
