I agree with this. From what we know of Lana, she is headstrong, a perfectionist/control-freak when it comes to art, and prioritizes her art and her intuition over the "business aspect", what's thought to be acceptable/"sell well", etc. And we've heard from multiple people, "You just can't tell her what to do", as well as from Lana that her label was giving her free reign to do whatever she wanted, and she was so appreciative for it.

Do I like the lyrics? Nope, not one bit. Do I think that Lana believes that she is still delivering quality content and that she wanted to release this? Yes.

I haven't listened to much of the new snippets-only American-and I'm completely fine with people's differing opinions and all, but reading this last bit really upset me. I think it's very disrespectful to Lana that you'd say she doesn't care about her music or the artistic value in it just because it didn't appeal to you. Maybe she is changing as a person, so she wrote in a different style or just wanted to experiment with sounds more on this rerelease? I don't know really, but it just makes me very sad to see you say she doesn't care because you don't like it. Personally, I think if she didn't care then she wouldn't have bothered making this EP, or having the Ride video be 10 minutes long. Idk, that actually really upset me so I'm just going to stop now.

We don't have a thread like that, and of course you can post it! Anything is fine, as long as it's not spam. Sounds like a good thread idea. Post away!

    Born to Die: National Anthem
    AKA: Pawn Shop Blues
Sirens: For K (Part 1). Provocative: I don't really like Sirens at all. For K has only been played 7 times.
Unreleased: American Dream / Damn You (I don't know what it's actually called) I'm surprised I've played this so many times (103...) 'cause it's not that good but I think it's because I really like the way she sings "I pray your life is sweet, you fucker, damn you" and you cannot skip to your favorite part of a song. You have to earn it.
Demos: Without You (Demo), National Anthem (Demo 1) and Carmen (Demo) were all close ties
    Collabs: -

I would prefer if you did not edit multiple posts; it disrupts the forum, or more specifically, the flow of conversation.

Okay, this thread is turning into a circle-jerk. If this thread continues on this tangent, I'm locking it.

No one need reply to anyone else. The words written here already speak volumes about the character of members in the discussion. Ultimately, the community knows who has good intentions, who is ignorant, who is trying to facilitate good discussion (regardless of your stance on the matter), and who is just plain rude. I understand this is a controversial matter and heated debates can happen (I'm no stranger to making these sort of "How could some have the audacity to do ______!!!" posts, believe me ), but an insistence on carrying on a horrible attitude despite multiple attempts by others to point out and curb their disrespectful manner is on an entirely different level. Let the posts speak for themselves; there is no need trying to convince someone that is unwilling to see past their very narrow-minded perspective.

If anyone would like to keep banging their head against a wall, please do so in PMs.

Telling people to 'get the fuck over it'... I don't think I can even put into words how awful that is. It didn't insult me personally - and it probably didn't insult most people but just think about it a minute, even if it's just a personal thing to Lana, it's a personal thing to other people and the scenes she was wearing it in doesn't portray the headdress at all well.

I love the video but I kind of thought the headdress was a bad idea of Lana's for her own reputation's sake.
I don't know whether it's a good idea of me to get involved now though... I think I might tear all my hair out by the end of it all.

Farting synth bass! I bet Kahne has an amazing collection of vintage analog synths. LET’S GET THAT PETITION GOING, GUYS.

    ...vocal track sloppily coming in?

Best thing anyone's said on this forum ever. Seriously.

    The sounds of gambling?

Sounds to me like a free reed instrument, something like an accordion, bandoneon, or harmonium.

    Lolita is G_d.

And don't worry, BIll, i'm with you on Lucky Ones. People are just, i don't know, smoking crack or something?

Okay, I need to organize this by album/demos/unreleased because there are so many songs and so many amazing moments for me.

This is an awesome thread, Sitar, thank you. There are some more moments, but holy shit I've typed a lot and school is almost over so I'll be at rehearsal for a few hours because I'm fabulous and in a play so I'll be back to read all of your interesting responses later, bye. xoxo

OMG ANOTHER LUCKY ONES FAN. QUICK, GET IN THE SAFEHOUSE. THEY CAN'T KNOW YOU EXIST.
It would be between Lucky Ones and Hundred Dollar Bill (1.0)... although to make me choose between them would be to make me kill myself and come back to life to make the hardest decision of my after-lived life... WORDS.

Sorry, here at LanaBoards, you have to make a passive aggressive status begging to be banned because you feel unwelcome so that people will comment and say, "OMG, NO WHYYYYY!!!" and you can reap ~attenshun~ and then you have a big ~DRAMATIC!!!~ departure only to come back so you can read run-on sentences like these.

Hey, i don't mean to do _____ but i'm going to go right ahead and do it!

How about you stop arrogantly insisting on what people should feel and think, eh? Your dismissive attitude is exactly the problem surrounding these sort of issues. Of course it's the prevalent stance taken by the dominant, oppressive group. "Regardless of the origin"--again you're only helping to pinpoint the problematic mentality here.

Also, what the hell does it matter that it's a music video? You think that exempts anything?

I think this is the most anticipated part of all the lyrics in all her songs for me

    It's so perfect.

He said, “Lana Ray, will you serve me lemonade”

and I said, “Yes, Bill, I will, it’s the day of the parade

And you look even more handsome than you did the day that I left you

How do you spend your nights, honey, still watching TV

I long to be in your arms honey, come back to me please”

I'm not talking about your favorite song, or your favorite lyric. I'm talking about the moment in a song that makes it special, that you find yourself waiting for and anticipating. Production elements, a particular accent or vocal trick used, kicking in of a certain instrument...all this applies. However, this is exclusively Lana.

For me, it's the final chorus of "Mermaid Motel". I don't know the musical jargon of the technique she uses there in her vocals (Monicker could probably teach me a thing or two), but it's absolutely mesmerizing and a real contender for one of the most brilliant, effective decisions she's made in her music. How's that for a grand statement? Even if the credit goes to David Kahne for that last chorus, maybe that's just confirmation of what a dream team they were. It just instantly stops me, the way it seems almost...turned inside out? Just go listen to it, it starts at 3:02.

While I did wanna share that, I'm really interested to know your musical moments with Lana. Anticipating some "dark nights" from "Yayo", don't disappoint me

I'm not sure if you were making a reference I'm too dumb to understand, but I'm pretty 100000% positive the lyrics are "Be young, Be dope, Be proud like an American."
  24. Hundred Dollar Bill liked a post in a topic by YUNGATA in Unpopular Lana Opinions
I know it was discussed more than a month ago but if you wouldn't mind I'd like to briefly touch on the un-feminist lyrics. As someone who's been in what I now realise were probably unhealthy relationships, albeit exhilarating, I really identify with a lot of what Lana's saying. But just briefly, I in no way mean to diminish or criticise your opinions by saying stuff like "you guys just don't know"; I don't know your lives or your struggles and I'm not prepared to make those judgements so this is merely my experience.

I can see how on the surface a what of her lyrical content seems to be against positive feminist ideals, but when I was in those relationships the power balance felt very natural and like feminism wasn't apart of anything. I was happy to let the men in my life lead me because they made me feel safe and there was a lot of love there. I knew how hard my heart beat for them and I could feel that in them too. For me, to love someone that much in a i-can-hardly-breathe-when-we're-not-together way made me feel so alive. I'm guilty of doing a lot of things I shouldn't have done with them but I was so free. So when they held me a little rough or something similar it didn't matter because it felt like we belonged. I can see why things like that from another perspective may have seemed off and like I was being controlled or smothered but that's not how it felt.

I was going to write a little more but I don't want to just bombard this thread with what is probably not interesting content.
