    Please stop the drama
    1. the snippet is not that good. In fact there are much better moments on the boring HM. Maybe this will end up like BB from UV
    2. stop calling the feds. because nobody cares besides the hardcore fans and former hardcore fans (me). she has no team besides that cute blonde assistant who is good to help her buy groceries and her sister (who will shot the cover of course). she doesn't take her own career too seriously so everybody just chill and wait for her insta announcement, don't be delusional there will be no "era", she will tease her stuff on social media and she will do some festivas and that's it.
    3. the only thing that matters it's the quality of her music (lyrics). as I said the snippet is not promising (after YaB she comes with YaIL I don't see any progress here)

I don't think that there is anything that justifies following her anymore. I don't see how she could reinvent herself or do something relevant musically. She has an intriguing voice but that's about it. I clarified for myself that she represented to me some kind of a demented online crush (she got me somehow with her morose attitude and her sexy voice) which is now fading away. All that is left is the neurosis and the bafflement about the time that I spent thinking about a virtual entity because she never become something real to me. I went back to listening classical music as I was before discovering her. Since this is my last post here I recommend to all of you to listen to Bach and his peers and maybe some of you will be embarrassed by the scrobbles you had recently. I wish LDR/E. Grant the best

I feel your pain when I see reviews like this but it is past the point of really letting it get to us.Lana is talented. Lana has a huge fan base. She has already accomplished a lot and some of her early negative press will always follow her around. I used to reply to articles and reviews but now I am a little more confident in Lana and her career. (Boosted in no small part by people like the ones on this board) Even now you can see a YouTube comment that will say, "Most people don't know she's Auto-tuned and her father's rich. He bought her career" (Eyes roll)

Just don't let it get you down that's all.

Words of wisdom. Thank you Fred. That's what I usually do, but today I just needed to vent.

The pre-concert experience was a big, big mess, to the point I had a hard time focusing/enjoying the show. Lana was fantastic, her vocals were top notch, a real pro. Plus, she had an overload of sensuality the way she danced and carried herself, très va va voom. I'm just mad at the security who couldn't make a narrower line, they made us move in large barricaded areas telling us that people should remember their position in line because they wanted it to be fair to everyone and I was naive. There was no line anymore when security moved us, you could fit 12 persons per row in that "line". I lost my spot because I decided to go talk to a group of friends on the back (I was #12 in line at 6am) and I thought I could get next/in front of the group of girls who lined up after me before security decided to disorganize everything, but those girls were pushed at the back too, so I tried my best to get in the front of the "line" before they open the gate, but it was hard, people were tight to each others ready to run like Forrest.

When they opened the gates for us to go to bag search (5 lines), I was stuck behind a girl who got searched extensively and I could see all the other kids getting screened fast and already rushing to the stage. Security would scream at us not to run or they'll get us out like wtf we're not in a public swimming pool, how to you think you can control a hundred crazy fans? A freaking stampede. When I realized there was no spot left front row, I started getting a panic attack and cried saying how a looser with no-life I was for freaking out for such a stupid thing and a bunch of lovely girls had pity and squeezed themselves so I could fit in next to my friend. But our other friend couldn't make it, she was second row and she was mad at the girls because if they would have squeezed themselves a bit more, she could have been front row, but the girls didn't wanted to get pushed far right, so one of them gave her a dirty look saying "who are you?" (she probably didn't know she was with us).

My friend was crying, asking me to push them, but I felt bad because the girls already gave me a spot and the 3 of us in our group would not stand up in diagonal to let her get front row because of the uncomfortable/too intimate position (chest next to the back). I feel guilty about it, but everyone became territorial and it made me act like a bad selfish person, I hate that. We're not friends in everyday life, we just help each other getting organized when Lana comes to Montréal. When I realized I was on 2nd row, I started talking loudly, saying it wasn't fair and one of them agreed and I told him "You got in line 1 hour later than me, why don't you give me your spot if you agree it isn't fair?" and he didn't do anything, and I'm not mad at him at all (I really like him), I would have done the same thing. It's just not the kind of general atmosphere I like, I'm not competitive and I like to share and do things right. Everybody in our group think like that. But we couldn't. My friend on 2nd row had to have medical staff to help her walk out of the site, her back was dead. Btw she finally was able to squeeze in first row when the show started, but she had to tolerate the bad energy of the girl on her left who was mad at her. It went from shoulders 2 shoulders -> hips 2 hips, my arms were crossed in front of me and my boobs were popping out of my cleavage lawl. The pressure on my arms and shoulders was so bad like when you get blood pressure test. My body wasn't properly aligned and most of my weight was on my left foot, I felt like a flamingo, but I wasn't resting.

Lana met some fans before OTTR, the last song. I thought she might come back after, but she didn't. She waved at the crowd and I was waving at her with the most desperate face, showing her my UV vinyl, stretching my body over that stupid barricade, trying to reach her and she smiled at me with a slightly sad expression in her face. I understood later that she probably left because of the curfew. C'est la vie!

Well, at least I tried the festival thing. I was hesitant, and I was right (it sucked), but I tried it. I'm gonna sell my ticket for the Ohana Fest. Even if it's a smaller festival, hardcore fans will be there and it's gonna be a fight for front row again. I also heard LA fans are quite aggressive. Good luck @@LAman.

I'm also disappointed at life, because I had 3 opportunities to meet her in Montréal for that concert and I chose not to wait at her hotel the day of the show, because I wanted to get front row (the goal is to enjoy the music, not take a selfie) and my other friends who knew her hotel (I think we were the only 3 people who found out where she stayed) met her and talked to her for about 5 minutes, got their vinyl signed (she didn't want to take pictures though). They couldn't tell in what mood she was, they said she didn't seam to enjoy talking to them, but why didn't she leave? There's nothing rude to say that you have to go. I don't really get it. Maybe she's open to talk, but jaded by the redundancy of the conversations. Or she realize after a few words that "we", fans, are not so special.

I saw some of the Lana crew at the airport (Blake, Biron, Tom, Kevin, Johnny, Pamy, Anna...) and said a few words to them as they were passing by, one by one. I told Johnny (her stylist) that the best dress Lana wears are in her Montréal shows and he laughed I asked Biron if he had fun at Lolla and he said yes and I asked if Lana was coming and he said "Maybeee..." with a huge smile. We waited 2-3 more hours and we didn't see her, so we left. My friend who met her at her hotel the day of the show texted me and said the first time she came out, she jumped in the car with Johnny and they took off so fast he didn't have time to react. He said he didn't know where they were going, maybe soundcheck and it didn't make sense because it was 3pm the day of the show and there was already other acts on stage, so I said they went shopping for a better dress I love yellow.

So yep, that's the story. A lot of negativity, but on a brighter note, I didn't starve (I brought 3 meals for the whole day), I have a light sunburn, we had shadow starting at 2pm, security gave us a bit of water, the show was great, it wasn't raining, I got front row, I wasn't alone and I enjoyed chatting with the people around me, I didn't touch my cellphone during the show and most of all, it was so hot outside I didn't have to pee in a bottle!

Last year, I slept outside all night to get a good spot and I thought to myself "That's how it feels to sleep on the concrete in the city when you're homeless" and this year I thought to myself "That's how it feels to be squeezed in a train to Auschwitz".

It's not that easy. She cast a spell on us. I really love her voice on record and I'm still curious with what happens in her career. I think her next major career move (album) will be the turning point for me. If she comes out with another HM then I will have to admit that I overstated her talent and I will probably move on. I think that she needs a major shift in her topics to gain/maintain artistic credibility. Her peculiar solipsism it's exhausted, she needs to come out from her bubble but I'm not very optimistic about that tbh

The show was amazing. She sang in a much higher pitch than when I last saw her in 2015, which I love. She looked & sounded absolutely stunning. I was second row, but the people in front of me ended up getting a picture with her and when she leaned back to take it, I touched her hair, so I can check that off of my bucket list. I'll probably be uploading some videos and pictures on my Instagram tomorrow (@) x

    Just for comparison
Meaghan Trainor has had 3 #1s and a 4th song that hit #3 in the USA
    Her first album opened 268,000
    Her latest album 117,000

that is with 3 of the most played songs, in the last few weeks

Record sales are not what they used to be

and of course, one should never compare an artiste like Lana with a commercial hitmaker singing novelty songs and such as Meaghan

I myself would rather listen to Honeymoon thousands of times than Meaghan twice.

Uh, no, my friend. Lollapalooza literally made entire careers and Lana will be there to represent 25 years of music history. Also, she will be hugely exposed to non-fans, those who claim she can't sing based on her old SNL fail and think of a generic remix whenever they hear her name. This is rather an opportunity than "just a festival".
  14. Flipflopfan liked a post in a topic by slang in Lana Del Rey's Impact
Let me apologize in advance for tldr, but in broad strokes she's had several different kinds of impacts:

To Pop music: Attention to detail, as in lush orchestrations, melody, emotional expression in melody, and the patience and confidence to go slow. Details are also historical in the sense that she is the fan of older-era music and thinks that there is more to be mined there in terms of extending styles and in terms of dropping references. She's certainly not the first artist to do any of these things, of course. I think she shares with Kate Bush a kind of courage to break from the mainstream and a conviction to do the kind of stuff she likes, and as with Kate Bush, to the extent she succeeds, she encourages other artists to do the same. Also as with Kate Bush, her videography is significant. Comparing LDR's videos to others often seems like comparing The Seventh Seal to The Revenge of the Nerds pt. 3.

To Music criticism: BTD debunked music criticism in the sense of showing the critical community could be against something that the general public actually liked. In effect, the critical community could not predict or understand why people liked her music, and as such showed itself woefully deficient at doing their jobs. The issue of "authenticity", while people made a big deal of it, always seemed to me to be a red herring. It was the singing and the music, not an implied message or musical pedigree, that people responded to (and critics did not). I recommend looking at the Tiny Mixtapes reviews of BTD, UV, and HM to see an especially eventful evolution in a critical opinion of her.

To Feminism: I think when the smoke clears it will be the case that LDR's ambivalent stance on feminism actually made her a feminism poster-girl, simply because she did all the stuff expected from males but got blamed for it far more than they did. As such she implicitly defines someone who should be given positive attention by feminists, not negative. Liz Phair made this point about LDR well before LDR's feminism-quote faux pas (I wonder if she still holds that opinion). Another way of stating the argument is this: LDR has songs where she's hung up on a guy, but you don't think Van Halen, Chris Isaak, Frank Sinatra (or countless others) have similar amounts of songs about obsessive love interests? Well if you're ragging on her but not them, then you are in some sense anti-feminist by not supporting gender-irrelevancy in freedom of choice for (legal) human behavior. I think videos like Ride complicate the issue, but they don't undermine them. There the issue is whether art has any moral or social obligation to promote feminism, or any other kind of humanism or pro-social cause, no matter what. Certainly a lot of art does this, and that's fine, but the deeper issue is whether it's a requirement for something to be art (e.g., a lot of people think Nabokov's Lolita is a great book, but the book was still banned by some on moral grounds and/or was not considered art by some).

Shout out to Morrissey: I might cite this guy as an "influence" on LDR, but in fact he is just a great precursor with respect to her, meaning he's similar to LDR, imo, but much much more extreme on certain dimensions of behavior. It is therefore interesting to compare his experiences with the media with LDR's. I think he's a great singer/songwriter. He's also sadcore like LDR yet more often upbeat musically. However, his sadcore lyrically is so much more extreme than LDR's, that he's one of the reasons I don't get why people refer to LDR's songs as being sad (I mean compared to him, LDR seems closer to Kimbra). He's also VERY unfiltered with respect to what he will say to the media on issues that are important to him. In particular his comments on suicide are just mind-boggling (e.g., "it's admirable" though he would not elect to do so himself--Larry King 2015 about 16:30 into the interview, and he was one of the few people, in 1995, to have ever said he admired Kurt Cobain's suicide). He is an acknowledged depressive, so the media goes easy on him. He is male too, of course, and I suspect that also helped him. He doesn't like current pop. Larry King 2015 asked him about Sam Smith and Noel Gallagher (17:30) into the interview, he basically declined from saying anything other than he didn't like anything at all; however, when Larry asked him about Sinatra, Morrisey did a shout out to Nancy Sinatra, which makes me wonder how he would have responded if Larry had asked about LDR. Probably very disdainfully, but we'll probably never know.

    Just some minor quibbles.

Chris Isaak on the influencee list: I recall LDR being compared to CI many times but not the other way around. I vaguely remember a video interview where LDR said she liked him (around the same time I heard about the French referring to LDR as CI's "granddaughter"--wish I could find the cite for that). I think it makes perfect sense that LDR would like CI quite a lot, as he's kind of an evolved Elvis, and CI cites Elvis as a major influence.

Name Dropping as an LDR influence on others: I see LDR's name dropping as part of her assimilation of a general hip-hop/rap influence where name dropping is common (e.g. Tyler the Creator dropping Bruno Mars' name in Yonkers, in 2011). I give LDR credit for doing name-dropping especially good, though sadly she does this the best in her unreleased  (e.g., Last Girl on Earth, Axl Rose Husband). On the other hand, it may be the case that name-dropping became more popular in pop after her, idk.

Lana bringing retro back: I think both LDR and Adele have cited Amy Winehouse as the main influence on that. But ditto my last "on the other hand".

I remember back when gaga blew up every musician/artist/pop star its seems were wearing weird shit and trying to be quirky in an OTT manner. Then when Lana came on the scene everything changed over night basically. Music became slower more sinister and more serious. Same goes for fashion.

I really do think that's why albums like ARTPOP during that time flopped. No one wanted OTT anymore. They wanted someone who was serious and  who was different but in another type of way. That person was/is Lana....

So far it wasn't a good decision in my opinion because she didn't revived her fanbase in Europe and the media coverage was rather weak. I have the feeling that she choose festivals to not change dramatically her setlist. The only thing that will matter for her  career wise in this tour is Lola and SF in the US which will get a fair amount of media coverage but with this level of performance she will be rather ignored or slightly criticized as boring.

Well I slept, rehydrated a bit showered and I'm home safe and I just realised how ungrateful I sounded and I apologize. I did enjoyed the concert very much and Lana's posts about it reassure me so much.

I apologize, I was extremely happy to see her, and I regret only stating the bad points. It's Lana, I love her more than anything in the world and seeing her is an extreme blessing, especially considering how astonishing she sounded. The dancers were so much better than I thought too! It actually really added. And in retrospective the setlist even though it wasn't specially my taste, could have been worst. I'm sad about Serial Killer because it's genuinely one of my favourite songs ever and she did it before and I was already sad WC wasn't on the setlist anymore, but also because it's the song that made me definitely stan and it would have meant a lot to me.

I'm angry at myself only, like I didn't prepared myself the right way at all and ended up making all the wrong decisions, like I changed side of front row at the last moment just to cite one and the guys I was waiting with were the ones she met, and I didn't thought I could meet her afterwards so I lost my chance too but now I feel kinda better I'm going to go away a tiny bit (like try but I will probably fail) and focus on making better stuff and getting a broader audience so she can actually see something I've done

Thank you so much, I hope

Oh also I was so happy to meet a French boy there, he's not on LB but he's the literal sweetest guy and he has an AHS insta so promo for him Elias if you see this one day bless you

Some media reactions from Belgium said that she was misplaced at a festival that emphasized on rock. Some fans said on twitter that she was sad at the reaction of the public. So fuck them. She needs to thicken up. Of course that a bunch of tattooed, beer belly, bald, older shit machines didn't connect with her melodramatic style. They waited for the Boss and many of them had no clue who she was.

But this could be a problem in the upcoming festivals and she needs to deal with it because it was also her decision to do these festivals. She needs to wake up from her biter-sweet melancholy dream state and face the fact that she has a career worth saving. What she expected tbh? That she'll have the Coachella crowd from 2014 when her career was at the highest point with a lot of LA fans coming just to see her? Since than we had the UV and HM eras with no promo, a lot of stupid interviews and boring videos happened which put her on a downward spiral career wise. So she needs to put herself in the career building mode again which is not easy and sometimes it's just not working despite the artist best efforts.

So, I'm a little concerned for her upcoming festival events especially for Lola because that comes with huge media exposure and that performance will definitely count in her perception stateside. But I say it again: she needs to be bold, she has nothing to lose, she cannot cancel these shows and run away, she has to go forward no matter what and she needs to ditch this ridiculous frighten rabbit act regarding her performances. The fact that she tweaked her show is the step in the right direction. I'm rooting for her and the best case scenario will be that 2016 will mark the transformation of LDR in a confident performer
