I said I was going to do a write-up on Hotel. Don't say I didn't warn you. It's pretty lengthy.

Sorry for any spelling/grammar errors; of which I'll fix when I return to read some replies.

Like I said, I don't just think it's the best of the American Horror Story miniseries, so far - but it's probably my favorite singular miniseries ever (that isn't Mike Nichols' Angels in America, or Ingmar Bergman's Scenes from a Marriage).

    You're good! I get ya.

Hotel really just appeals to a lot of my interests. It's over-the-top, visually stimulating, has neon colors and 80s New Wave music, sex equated to death, fluid sexuality, weird setpieces, and camp. So it was tailor-made for me to adore it.

I may be alone on this, but...

Hotel >>>>>>>>>>>> Murder House >> Asylum >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Coven>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Freak Show

I'm going to put together an essay soon on Hotel. Because, I shit you not, I think it's one of the best "miniseries" in the past fifteen or so years.

I do keep going. It's my one true hobby on all fronts. Film, in general.

I've considered L.A., but have decided to move to the Seattle area in the next two or so years. My fiancé and I both LOVED it there. Plus, you just hop on the interstate to go to either L.A., Portland, or Vancouver - all very arts heavy.

Thanks for the kind words, and giving it a go. It's been my least watched film thus far, but that may because of what it's about. Haha

  23. Your Girl Lana liked a post in a topic by DouglasReese in "The Neon Demon" (Nicolas Winding Refn's latest film)
I highly recommend this to all my fellow popheads. The film is TANKING at the box office, so it probably won't even be in wide release by the time this weekends rolls around - but this film is batshit bonkers, over-the-top, and feels like a catty, campy, feature-length pop video. It's absolutely sublime, and Cliff Martinez's score pulsates over every frame, and the film's end credits is pretty much a Sia music video with her track "Waving Goodbye".

Check out a bit of the score from the opening credits here:

Vimeo told me this was embedded here and got about 25 clicks from users here, but I couldn't quite find it on the forum. (Damn, it's huge. And damn, how have I not known of its existence?) If anybody can link me to that spot, that'd be awesome - but I also just wanted to start a thread for it. I've never done a video essay, but I plan on doing more (I'm currently putting some together for the films of Sofia Coppola, John Carpenter, Eric Rohmer, Don Hertzfeldt, and other filmmakers). It says something about my thoughts for Del Rey when I put her up with names such as them. Thought other Lana fans would appreciate what I think about her and such.
