Handstand was obviously inspired by Lana but is the standout of the album in terms of not sticking to the rigid formula- poetic spoken word dialogue in the vein of ride and psychedelic pop/synth pop production like dead petz.

The production is really great but the melodies and tempos are boring-it’s the same kind of vibe all the way through- fast with an anthem chorus. It sounds like a Harry Styles album is the best way to put it. The tracks could have benefitted from breathing room and a slower tempo in places because you can tell it was engineered for tik tok which won’t give it longevity.

There are some callbacks to dead petz btw- rose coloured lenses is psych pop

There are some more ominous demos here and there- some of the Lolita ones spring to mind and the dark paradise one but yeah if the label were so worried-they wouldn’t have picked the slowest songs as singles when off to the races and diet Mountain Dew were right there.

Lana says a lot of things in interviews tbh, having access to the demos(which we all have) the album was always in a similar vein- baroque pop with trip hop mixed with other inspo creating her alt pop sound. It likely is more uptempo which you can you see but I doubt it was entirely a label decision.

She was right-Born to Die was for the boys- I know so many straight men who liked that album 🤷‍♀️ it appealed to them in the same way one direction appealed to girls-stroking their ego. Not that the tumblr fanbase wasn’t at the forefront

I don’t think it’s genre so much for me-I like pop records too but she just doesn’t have a classic or even iconic record as of yet-she really has so much potential but she needs better co-writers to strengthen her ideas and to steer away from cliches. It’ll be interesting to see what she does with her two sides concept

Her most cohesive released project is probably she is coming

Plastic hearts wasn’t that great either-she’s a singles artist- Plastic had some good deep cuts like night crawling but it didn’t capitalise on the “rock” aspect- it was still a pop record with rock moments really- shame it would have been cool for her to really plant her feet in it like UV

The album is a mess in retrospect-I’m going to give chemtrails another chance-never listened in full , BB has some great tracks and I still consider it better than NFR but it doesn’t really flow at all and was clearly rushed- YouTube rips of tons of tracks on the album💀 Dealer should have stayed on chemtrails and that’s where I’ll put it

Fav fashion eras for me are sucker and crash. Then TR but the outfits were messy at times due to the lack of budget + some interesting choices from her stylist not helping charli at times-all the shoot outfits served though!

I think her best mix of looks was the crash era tbh- the tennis outfits were interesting but the rest of the N1a angel era gives me boohoo model girl.

I don’t think it helped that even when the bob looked at its best-if you caught charli at a weird angle this was the result 💀
