this is going to sound bad, because i am genuinely glad lana is happy - or at least appears to be - but i would cut out my spleen if we could go back to september last year when she was dropping venice bitch and mariners and working with jack and posting a gazillion snippets and the album seemed very imminent.... then those insta baddie friends came along and ruined EVERYTHING... i swear to god........ .. .. . i am genuinely glad she's enjoying herself but..... I need my long winded psychedelic NFR masterpiece. I genuinely hope she doesn't just drop NFR because it's a dark album and she's in a happy place now

Rant incoming: I've been a hardcore stan since 2012, loved the vast majority of her output, defended her when she said questionable things about feminism and whatnot, and continuously supported her throughout these years. However, at this point I'm just really disappointed in her, and it has nothing to do with the quality of her music declining.
 
As an artist, she relies on her fans buying/streaming her music and spending their money on concert tickets and merchandise, otherwise she wouldn't be able to afford multiple houses and maintain the kind of expensive lifestyle she seems to enjoy. She announced that she would be releasing an album "at the top of the year" – well it's June now and there's no album, not even a release date, and we also never got any sort of explanation or update aside from an ambiguous statement on her personal Twitter account and some bitchy comments from one of her managers, leaving us all completely in the dark. And to make matters even worse, she actually managed to affiliate herself with an openly anti-LGBTQ, misogynistic megachurch despite being aware of her huge queer following. Isn't that a punch in the face?
 
Yes, delayed releases are somewhat common in the music industry. Yes, other artists make fauxpas too, surround themselves with the wrong people and say stupid shit every now and then. But for me at least, this ongoing ignorance, lack of communication, and overall just disrespectful behaviour towards the fans is quite unheard of, and I can't think of any other artists treating the people who made them big this way. It's true, of course, technically Lana doesn't owe us anything. But likewise, we don't owe her anything either. I've loved her music for years, and I still do and want to continue supporting her, but I honestly don't know how much longer I can keep doing that.

Not to mention the release of three singles that increased hype and began what seemed like a leadup to the album that we know is finished. It was a steady enough stream of news and information about the album until the faucet was slowly turned off to the point where we aren’t even getting a DRIP. She shouldn’t have mentioned nor released the singles or information about the album if she wasn’t confident that she’d want to release it (within 6 months.) Take 2016 for example, we were “starved” of new music but it wasn’t that bad because the only info we had of their being a new album was studio pics and the wait didn’t feel dragged out. But now we have singles, snippets, stale information, half the tracklist, and more yet all of that came from september-december 2018 and now we haven’t gotten almost ANYTHING since then. This era is based on rumors now. Rumors that she or her team could simply refute and use as opportunities to inform us on the status of the album. Instead we get one “Not sure when it’s coming x” tweet that wasn’t even on her OFFICIAL account. Oh my god, I am so tired. And I try not to think of the album too much. I cant even imagine those who are in this thread every single day discussing it constantly. I really genuinely feel like if she had never said the album was finished then we’d be more understanding and patient. Of course, we’d want the new music but we’d be expecting a better and more full album in the end. Now I’m expecting the same snippets we already had with little to no updated production. The album already feels a year old when it hasn’t even been released yet.

She’s definitely having an artistic existential crisis.

I blame LFL, like Ultraviolence and Honeymoon were her artistic peak... But it's clear the label wanted something more commercial after Honeymoon's era and the fans were always begging for a BTD 2.0.
 
In many ways LFL was a BTD 2.0, a return to the pop sound, the glamorous visuals and music videos. Then the collabs and the happiness thing etc all felt like it was forced to make Lana more appealing to the GP.
 
And it worked, Love and LFL were more successful than the stuff she'd released since WC, the album went #1 around the world and she did a world tour. Now the label know she's capable of doing this she's trapped. Look at how Doin Time is being promoted on Spotify and stuff and sent to radio, her label want more upbeat and pop sounding music. NFR is not that.

Hypothetically waits a final three full months (October, November, December) and BAM! Worst case scenario we literally get NFR top of 2020 in January.......
