I'm gonna quote my log of Bandersnatch from Letterboxd. I feel the need to preface that I generally like or love most of the Black Mirror episodes, and I particularly find San Junipero one of the best pieces of art of the decade.

Norman Fucking Rockwell - Pre-Release Thread
BluVelvUnderground replied to Elle's topic in Retired Pre-Release Threads
The only dream I've ever had of Lana was a replay of my concert attendance during the Endless Summer tour. She was singing Chelsea Hotel No. 2 again, and I walked up to her on stage and told her that I got a tattoo of her and she was like "you fucking didn't" and I was confused because it wasn't like her signature or anything, it was her face. But whatever. -

https://web.archive.org/web/20121012073116/http://mubi.com:80/topics/lana-del-rey-auteur Thanks to the Wayback Machine, I managed to pull up an essay I wrote on Lana back in October of 2012 on the film forum MUBI (now shutdown.) I thought this piece was lost forever, so I'm super glad I stumbled on it, but I have absolutely nobody to share it with who would even care about it or want to read it so I'm sharing it with you guys.

1. How did you discover Lana? When and What Era? Stumbled upon "Video Games" "Off to the Races" on YouTube back around 2011-2012ish. I remember it was around the time it only had a couple thousand views, and it was linked to me through a film-related forum at the time via Facebook by a friend. 2. First song(s)? "Video Games", "Blue Jeans", "Yayo", "Off to the Races", "Pawn Shop Blues"... and then Born to Die was released, and I bought the CD on my way to work. 3.what did you think? It was the first time I head an artist starting while I was alive that gave me the same kind of chills the classics did. She made me cry. I got her songs stuck in my head. I couldn't stop thinking about her. 4. Your favourite song(s)? Shit.... "Flipside", "Video Games", "Yayo", "Ride", "Sad Girl", "Carmen", "Cruel World", "Salvatore", "Venice Bitch", "Bel Air", "West Coast", "Money Power Glory", "Old Money", "Big Eyes".... etc etc obvs 5. Least favourite song(s)? "Guns and Roses", "Lolita", "Dark Paradise" 6. What song(s) "grew" on you? Fucking "Diet Mountain Dew", and "Summer Bummer"/"Groupie Love" duo 7. Whats your favourite Lana era as of now? (May jailer, Lizzy Grant, Lana Del Rey) Lana 8. Favourite Album(s)? Ultraviolence, with Honeymoon in a close second. 9. Least favourite(s) ? I guess Lust for Life, but I still love it - warts and all. 10. Favourite song preformed live? "Heart-Shaped Box"; and then this: 11. First song/Album purchased/Downloaded? Born to Die CD from Target with the bonus tracks ("Lucky Ones" included.) 12. Favourite song quote/lyric? "But you can find me, if you ask nicely. Underneath the pines. With the daisies, feeling hazy, in the ballroom of my mind. Across that county line."

Imagine Lana in the lead of that.

Yeah, Rocky Horror is incredible. <3 Don't be hard on yourself, this is a good honest list and that's refreshing. Dancer in the Dark really stands out, though! lol I love Jennifer Tilly in this movie so, so sososososo, soooo much.

I just want to point out that I'm here for Cinnamon, but I do think Venice Bitch is a top tier work of Lana's and I'm not even bothering a comparison. I'm happy to have 'em both. -

Cinnamon would be that bitch to warm up to the season. We should be thankful to get it. Sylvia will make mascara run down my cheeks, and I just don't need that this Christmas, but come through and I'll swallow, Lana baby. Edit: This is when I stop smoking pot at 8:36am. Jesus, wtf is this -

To be honest, the Ennio Morricone-esque trumpets of "Big Eyes", how it has those psychedelic synths that swell, and stays subtle and horror-centric in a slow way before it BANGS into that AMAZING THUNDER of percussion. Seriously, this song has aged like wine for me. I may be alone, but it's one of her best songs in terms of aesthetics. Then again, I love everything she does, but it's whatever. Give this song another go peeps - preferably in really damn good damn awesome good damn earphones.

I don't think "Coachella" makes for a good stand-alone, but in context to the album, it's good. Outside of that, I think people are a bit too hard on a few L4L tracks in general (I see a lot of diss toward "Change", but I adore it and find it vulnerable and beautiful.) "When the World..." has one of my favorite Lana pre-choruses. Meanwhile, I think "Carmen", "Sad Girl", "Flipside", and "God Knows I Tried" are among her best songs. (I'm also a fan of "Big Eyes" more than most, I think.) In the obscure world, "Jealous Girl" is a banger, "Summer of Sam" is twisted and catchy af, and "Pawn Shop Blues" is gorgeous and heavenly.

I'ma do by album. Born to Die: Lolita (the PRODUCTION IS LOUD AND GRATING, my LEAST favorite Lana song) Paradise: Cola (it's not bad tho) Ultraviolence: Guns and Roses (otherwise, every track and bonus track is impeccable) Honeymoon: 24 (it's the only song on there I always skip...) Lust for Life: Beautiful People Beautiful Problems (I don't necessarily hate it, but I never, ever, ever listen to it) I guess overall my least favorites are "24", "Guns and Roses", and then "Lolita".

I've always been fond of it, too, and remember being a bit overwhelmed by how many people ripped into it. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad it's more loved now, but just getting whiplash by the consensus here. -

BluVelvUnderground replied to Elle's topic in Retired Pre-Release Threads
Yeah, UV has always been considered her consensus best around here. HM was kinda meh for the longest time, until it somehow got some kind of re-evaluation. But yeah, musta been bias, because I swear there was nothing but a rain of love for it before. Just surprised it's now considered some kind of "stain" or something. -

I swear that just last year, LFL was considered one of her best by most on here. I'm so confused.
