The Blackest Day vs. Shades of Cool
-
It’s so true what everyone is saying about Behind the Iron Gates. I feel like the Interview Mag video could’ve been a trailer for both Chemtrails and Behind the Iron Gates, as I think she’s really tying together the themes of isolation (by literally being behind iron gates but also feeling like an outsider in regards to the culture, both of which I think will see Lana discuss being a prisoner of her own thoughts derived from her experiences, but how that’s almost empowering) and there will be such a synergy between Chemtrails and Behind the Iron Gates - even more than Norman and Violet! I think both projects will influence the way the other should be interpreted or listened to and it’s really cool to see her putting out projects in multiple formats that are all connected! I hope she continues putting out records and poetry collections that are symbiotic so that we can be further blessed with her insight!!

Honeymoon - Post-Release Discussion Thread + Poll
IanadeIrey replied to annedauphine's topic in Post-Release Threads
It used to play American in April/May 2018 until NFR came out and then it switched to California, but maybe since they switched it back to American and the NFR era is over, that's a sign that this is just a placeholder song until COTCC comes out and another song will be on it! -
Honeymoon - Post-Release Discussion Thread + Poll
IanadeIrey replied to annedauphine's topic in Post-Release Threads
Happy birthday, Honeymoon! Too many things to say about this record (and if you scroll back a few years ago in this thread, you will see my essay-long posts analyzing this record ) but I love it and it is a new peak for Lana - the definition of timelessness and a lush sound - a career highlight! <3 -
Mermaid Motel vs. Mermaid Motel (Steven Mertens demo)

She needs to do “I Talk to the Wind” by King Crimson. There’s a version with a flute in the intro on Spotify that I love, but this version with the bluesier guitars is just as gorgeous for Lana

Ugh, she’s the best

So well-said! Building off what you said, I really think it’s silly for everyone to suddenly renounce their support for Lana over this and make such bold declarations about her when we don’t even really know her. I’m not defending her mask of choice, but I do think that there are ways of discussing this without immediately bringing in the whole “Republican” and “conspiracy theorist” and “Trump supporter” arguments because those can be damaging insinuations for a lot of people and Lana has never proven to be any of those things - I’m sure she wouldn’t appreciate people who claim to be her own fans throwing that kind of jargon around. Not trying to lecture anyone or single anyone out, but I do think that this kind of “critiquing” of her (that instead becomes a tomato-throwing conquest towards her) doesn’t really help anyone and it just invalidates the point being made. Message also sent with love - but likely concern that will never be addressed.

Not exactly related to what you’re saying but this account is actually quite strange in that its whole purpose in the beginning was to hate on Chuck’s work and then it focused on “exposing” Lana’s new boyfriend, and it is quite appalling that someone would go out of their way to create an account to bash people and spread hate - it’s not even productive criticism or really focused on educating people to do better - it’s just part of a bigger cultural problem.

For all my writers - Lana’s typewriter is a portable electric Royal Scriptor AX150! It’s currently unavailable or out of stock on all retail sites but re-sales can be found on Amazon US or E-Bay! Happy writing

What are your favourite literary quotes of all time?

I was looking for this exact quote so I could post it on here! Great minds think alike Sylvia’s writing is always chilling. This is just one example -
Norman Fucking Rockwell - Post-Release Discussion Thread + Poll
IanadeIrey replied to Elle's topic in Post-Release Threads
You said it so perfectly, I completely agree! I actually really disagree when people try and invalidate NFR by saying it was a “compromise” or was “safe” or “watered-down” when really I think that Lana is just somebody whose perspective is ever-evolving and whatever her muse is at a given moment is what will be channeled into a song or a poem. Just because her previous records or future records adopt a different narrative from that album doesn’t mean it was ever disingenuous or “pandering” to any critics. -
For all my friends who missed out on this from Interview Magazine's website, you can pre-order it here: https://www.yourcelebritymagazines.com/collections/lana-del-rey/products/us-interview-magazine-september-2020-lana-del-rey-pre-order It's so much cheaper to get it from here than Interview Mag's site because of the shipping costs. I think for me it would've been $60 from Interview Mag but on here I saved $15! They also have other Lana magazines from past eras and the reviews for this site are pretty legit!

In Bed (and in the Tub) with Lana Del Rey - Interview Magazine [Video]
IanadeIrey replied to Elle's topic in New Interviews
I think because of the lash extensions paired with the baby blue nails it has to be between June 30th and July 8th because on June 29th she was with her friends with no lash extensions, and on July 9th she had sparkly pink nails. LOL the sleuthing of us Lana fans! -
In Bed (and in the Tub) with Lana Del Rey - Interview Magazine [Video]
IanadeIrey replied to Elle's topic in New Interviews
Oh that’s true! I thought it was July 3rd since Wild Mud Barker was at their house that day and he filmed a project on set of this and I figured she just took her makeup off/switched it, but definitely late June/early July still stands! -
In Bed (and in the Tub) with Lana Del Rey - Interview Magazine [Video]
IanadeIrey replied to Elle's topic in New Interviews
Yes, I’m almost certain that July 3rd was the date they shot this! And I’m also sure that the interview with Jack happened between July 28th and July 30th! -
This video just reminded me why I love Lana so much - and why we are so blessed to experience the art and gift of a genius of all her art forms!

Especially with her references to Sylvia in NFR and Patent Leather Do-Over, I think the facility may be autobiographical to her, but is definitely a motif based on The Bell Jar!

I didn’t find Question for the Culture to be controversial at all, I had read it as I would read any other announcement she has made and didn’t think too much about it. It wasn’t until I went online the next day and saw everybody attacking her that I was more aware of the culture she was referring to and I think the public’s reaction and them turning it into a race war just proved the point she was making. Her listing those women in the admiring way she did was to say “look at these women who sing about the same stuff that I do, but are seen as empowering figures in the feminist community, whereas I am seen as archaic in my beliefs that allegedly set women back hundreds of years.” I get that fans say they’re “traumatized” by her posting that because it’s never fun to watch someone you care about be berated by the masses, but I think that kind of indirectly trivializes the things that Lana was saying and contributes to the erasure of inclusivity of women in feminism and perpetuates the narrative that women need to adopt traditionally-masculine characteristics in order to be empowering (and by the way, I’m not saying women who adopt those characteristics are doing so on purpose just to fit a standard of feminism, there are so many more factors besides gender that play into why someone is the way they are). Why can’t women just be the way they are, even if that’s more “fragile” as Lana has identified herself to be, and still be empowering? I admire her ability to come out and say something like this - something that people may not be able to metabolize in times like these.

This interview is so amazing. One thing I’ve always admired about Lana is how she’s firm in her beliefs and confident in her own abilities - I think she really speaks to the saying that if you don’t believe in what you’re doing, then nobody will. And for that reason, she’s a huge inspiration! The way she puts things and the way she’s so self-actualized and aware of her own mechanisms really just reminds me why she will forever be my favourite artist!
