I personally find it very beautiful when Lana sings about her family. She's not just providing insight into her own world, she's also encouraging us to contemplate those people in our own lives. A lyric like "my grandmother's last smile" is so powerful because how can someone hear it without considering their own grandmother's last smile? "Charlie, stop smoking" doesn't just make me think of Lana's brother, it makes me think of the people I love who are smokers and wish they could cut back too. "Chucky was there for three out of three" makes me think about rushing back to my hometown for my dad's final days. I think people get a lot more out of her lyrics when they find ways to relate them back to their own lives. Lana is a magician and she's very much placing these thoughts in our head for reasons that go beyond her in my opinion, she's just doing it in the way that is most personal and meaningful to her.

I haven’t posted my full thoughts on the album yet, but this is her strangest and most unconventional album to date. It took me three listens to start grasping her overall vision and intentions, and I still think that I’ll have to revisit it several times in order to understand it better. It kind of feels like a culmination of her entire discography in terms of themes and inspirations - it shares some similarities with LFL, I suppose - while it introduces new elements (the gospel/background vocalists on the first two tracks; the stream-of-consciousness tracks in the middle; the unhinged foreboding energy of the exquisite instrumentals of the interludes; Jon Batiste’s extraordinary piano solo; the spectacular transition between the sections of A&W; the playful addition of Venice Bitch albeit in its more sinister version; the autotune and muffled watery mixing on Fishtail; the experimentations on Peppers and A&W; the cosy loose warmth of Margaret and Let The Light In; the diaristic lyrics of several tracks; the creative interpolation of SYML and RIOPY’s tracks). It feels too heavy, too confounding and certainly very promising in terms of what we should expect from LDRX.
 
It’s a challenging album, but if Antonoff’s recent comments on Rolling Stone (if I remember correctly) are anything to go by, Lana is entering an entirely new level of artistry where she’s going to push herself even further. At the Billboards awards she admitted that she’s feeling very creative and relaxed these days - remember how stale she felt her writing was during the COCC/BB days? -  and Ocean Blvd feels like that necessary transformative stepping stone that will allow her to explore her art even deeper. It’s been extraordinary to watch and I cannot wait for the next chapter.

oh wait guys i also found out good news (according to several staff at the pop-up).. that every single merch item at the pop up (all of the new t-shirts and hoodies, not the vinyl or the jacket with the stamps, etc) will be available on ldrvillage in about one week !!!!!!!!!!!

yeah it was really disappointing and like.. felt like a long long wait for nothing. tons of fans left upset.. i don't know why everyone's posting cute pics and not saying how terrible everything was  😭  i love my girl lanita but babe if ur charging $80 for a hoodie that costs you $12 to make can you at least please organize a good event?? they made at least ten times the money they spent on the event. it's just greedy and disorganized.. i doubt lana planned it but.. it's still her event  🤷‍♂️  the two security guards who ran the huge lines clearly had no training.. they were likely hired from indeed short term,, that's where most of the "security guards" with no proper licensing find work in LA

no.. and chuck came rolling past the entire line of suffering fans on a golf cart laughing and smiling and recording on her camcorder    like girl.. at that point i had been let in already i was lmfao watching her roll in waving like the queen 

it was bad - very limited merch selection left for anybody who got there after 9:30 AM.. rob and chuck were there though for a bit taking pics w fans and lana talked to a group of fans in the pop up through facetime for a few minutes.. besides that though it wasn't anything special - one of the staff was a raging bitch too. no food or water available either for fans who were standing 7+ hours in the hot hot sun.. just poorly planned and disorganized.. two lines moved at different paces as well (no rsvps were honored, the security guard said "ion know about all that, there are only two lines with no difference, they didn't say anything to us") and some people who came hours later than others got in first.. they also never told ppl to leave and barely ever let new ppl from the line in, tons of fans left crying (several teenage girls crying because their dads were shocked at the prices and wouldn't buy them anything).. also several other issues im just lazy to type out but it was kind of absolutely shitty tbh.. they seem to not have restocked anything so all that was left was leftovers from yesterday 
 
on the bright side, the necklace lady was cute and had nice stuff !! robster was cute too and is very excited about the songs with lana from his upcoming album..  

yesterday she was supposed to go, there was lots of security set up everywhere and everything seemed ready for her to show up, not sure what happened, probably too many ppl were there and there was no way for her to get in and out bc there's one entrance way and one exit way, so she couldn't get in or out without getting past the fans 
 
(that's what happens when you choose for the location of your pop up shop to be a cliff)
