  1. @@Alex, you're a sadist. Off To The Races
  2. That you have a pretty damn good taste in music. Oh, and you also probably like cute & fluffy stuff. I'm such an insightful person, aren't I.
  3. Oh, I see. Here it's been out for a while now. I won't say anything then, but I'm really curious to hear / read some reactions...
  4. Jonathan Richman - That Summer Feeling
  5. Freemasonry these days is just yet another useless seniors club anyway. When it comes to exclusive memberships I'd rather have a what.CD account.
  6. @@Monicker - Will do. Also, and re: behind the scenes stuff, did you read / watch all those VICE articles / videos about Spring Breakers? I think there was at least a scrapbook with some photos, an interview with Korine and another one with the ATL twins where they also talk about the film...
  7. 5 more days until I own the Blu-ray.

  9. Well, damn. I played 4 or 5 times (3 attempts per game) and I never got him.

  11. Father John Misty - I love you, honeybear The lyrics stab me in the heart.
  12. OK, I'm SO using mine - even though it's so damn conceited, haha!
  13. Uh, what?! "Mate"? She's adopting British slang now?
  14. What do you mean, it's pretty much pop culture? Sure, it's not as old as that of many other countries and it's more of a melting pot that in most places, but it's still a very particular culture with unique traditions and mentality that go way beyond pop culture...
  15. Well, of course it's my opinion, that pretty much goes without saying. And no, I don't have any statistics, if that's what you mean, but I do live here and, you know, talk to people about stuff and listen to them talk back. And I can tell you that, even though Anti-Americanism isn't what it used to be during the Bush administration, it's still pretty high. I feel that I have touched a sensitive spot. Is this, like, taboo here?
  16. @@PennCentralFan I think you're mixing being bitter and not wanting to risk another "failure" + the subsequent backlash with not loving the US, or not considering it her home, or not being a huge part of what influences her anymore. I think that is precisely what made her so bitter - unrequited love. I guess that her reception at Lollapalooza (by public and media/critics alike) could very well determine whether she'll do a US tour in the near future or not... We'll see. Also, Germany made David Hasselhoff a big pop star - not Europe!
  17. Judging from a few things she's recently said, she's at the very least kinda bitter at the USA. And with good reason, if you ask me. She was mercilessly and, for the most part, stupidly attacked there. We all know she needs to feel adored and doesn't deal very well with negative criticism; I guess now we'll also find out whether she holds a grudge for a long time or not. I also wouldn't say that's the main reason she sells well here - you wouldn't believe how much anti-Americanism there is in Europe. When she appeared she was very different from pretty much everything else in the pop scene, and we really didn't give a fuck about the authenticity / inauthenticity debate & the lip controversy (feels really silly just writing this...). Her music had an interesting dark, vintage-y mood and vivid imagery, and her image fit very well into that. That's what made her a huge hit here. Dating a British musician? Check.

    Grimes

She's great. Not only do I love Grimes, the artist, but I really like Claire, the person. Her interviews are always so much fun, plus I love her attitude towards life and respect most of her opinions on social issues. Anyway, much as I love her 3 albums, the first thing I ever listened to was Darkbloom so that holds a special place in my heart (ew, how sappy) and Vanessa is still one of my favourite songs. Particularly love this performance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ks4LoTBJTtE And Oblivion really broke my heart when I finally found out what it was about, and made me admire her even more.

    Book Thread!

At the moment I'm reading Neuromancer by William Gibson. Literary sci-fi isn't really my thing but I love cyberpunk (in film, anyway) and so many people had recommended this book to me over the years that I ended up buying it. I'm about halfway through so far and I'm really liking it!
