She also sang it at the end of the 2012 show in the clip you shared and I think she did fine. Some people might not agree, but even though she was more shy back then, it’s still more energetic than now. I think it’s all the unnecessary dancing that added to the breathlessness and skipping a lot of lyrics in the 2018 performance.

I really don’t think it’s the label or billie’s upcoming release. The “who knows when it’s coming” part could be due to the poetry book. It’s more possible that it’s taken this long because of Lana’s laziness this era (the original album cover that’s possibly going to be reshot/the vague and confusing updates) and the damn time it’s taking to finish the poetry book. Yes, Lana may not be able to trash talk her label, but she’s been vocal about her frustrations if something doesn’t go her way during an album process in previous interviews. The woman isn’t even bothering to give the same effort in updates, so that should be enough to tell us Lana is comfortable atm. They ended up letting her release Venice Bitch- a 10 minute song. I think they know by now that she isn’t a “mainstream” artist, but she still brings in good money for them all these years because of her strong fan base.

Her pre-release has been great! Some of the fans aren't warming up to the new music, and I get it. Still, personally I've been loving the new songs. I'm surprised Marina's work ethic didn't rub off on her, since they both hung out a lot while they were both working on their albums. It was a cute treat during the Endless Summer tour (same with Us Against the World and You Can Be the Boss I'm still aching to hear YCBTB live ). It made me regret not going. When I went to see her during the LATTM tour, I was a bit happy I got to hear Serial Killer, but tbh I wouldn't have minded a Honeymoon song or a different unreleased song. I really was hoping for Paradise (don't get why she used it for soundcheck and only performed it at ONE show). This girl is being ridiculous. How does she not KNOW?! Is this our "july 21st fam" tweet for this era or is the announcement going to be more obscure/lazy? ily for this Oh, also wanted to mention this in another thread, but totally forgot- kinda had the feeling she'd bring her new LA friend group to her upcoming shows. Not only do I feel unsure about them - not like Lana cares what we think - but I kinda get the impression that they'll mock/bitch at some of the fans who get over-emotional when they meet Lana. Or they seem like the type to get bitchy if you accidentally get pushed into them in a crowd trying to meet Lana even though it was just an accident. I've seen it with Kali Uchis when she had her friends down in the barricade area when she performed before Lana. They snapped at some fans in the middle of Kali's performance and waved (for wut?) at people when they were walking with Kali outside the venue and the fans were screaming for Kali. A bit weird and rude. Idk if these LA IG influencers - whoever they are - are using Lana or not, but I wouldn't be shocked. Idc if we're just coworkers or w/e, but if I was in Lana's position, I'd have my band mates fly with me to most of my shows. I think after working with the same people for over a decade, I'd consider them family.

This is why I deleted my second Instagram account after a second of having it (I think that’s when the stuff with Ben happened), because I kept on seeing more and more fan accounts I follow get backlash for not even venting, but just simply asking, “where’s Lana? we thought the album was done.” It really isn’t too much to ask and it’s common sense for people to be a bit upset that the artist they’re a fan of is all of a sudden MIA when at the very least- they’re usually consistent in showing how enthusiastic they are for the release. I don’t think it’s a stretch to say this is the worst era in terms of promotion. At this point idc if Lana announces something at the end of this month. The bs with her manager and miscommunication through vague updates killed the hype for me.

I wanna bet she’s doing this because she’s feeling the heat from her label and the decline in hype from the remaining fans she has. I don’t trust anything with Sky unless there’s an actual date. No “spring”, no “winter”, no “_____ part of the year” bs. An actual date. Don’t get your hopes up.

Lana’s writing works better as songs... not poetry. At least the style she’s going for now (her writing became more simple during UV). I don’t like any of the poems she’s shared and wish she’d focus more on her music. I prefer Florence Welch’s style of writing- don’t kill me, but I’ve been spoiled with her Useless Magic book and Lana’s poetry book feels like a weak attempt at duplicating that.

Even though Cinnamon is a bit low-key, I’m surprised they wouldn’t release it as a single if this were the case since it sounds the most “radio-friendly”.

Now Rob posted the edit by tropicobaby. I actually love their edits, I just think it’s interesting that not only Ariana, but her dad posted an edited photo of her- not the original. Idk but maybe Lana should take that as a sign that maybe she should be a little less lazy with the visuals she does with her sister? lol

What I don’t get is Chuck isn’t that bad of a videographer or photographer. Look at Jessie Jo’s “Fire of Love” music video. It has the vibes the Cherry music video/LFL era could’ve had. I think it’s how much say Lana has now in the editing or the final choices that makes the videos/photos- even for NFR- underwhelming. Is it bad I wish Lana would focus more on her song-writing, poetry and work on her live vocals?

I'm still stuck on the fact that Lana forgot this is actually her third magazine cover with Steven Klein. Not the second. Don't know if that's an easy mistake to make, but... I could definitely see how that would stir confusion over if it's just for a magazine or a redo of the album cover since she said one of her managers didn't like it and she admitted she was lazy when it came to the idea. Also the fact that she said she's going to drop off copies at random LA/SF mom and pop shops, completely contradicting Ben, or not exactly clarifying that LA/SF fans will have the first chance at getting copies and a meet and greet too (cue the mess that was the LFL pop-up shops), THEN a worldwide release. I don't think it's that hard to clarify. Did she still not say which shows she's canceling? Are we ever going to get clear answers? How many posts about her LA influencer friends do you guys think we'll get before the next vague update on the album?

At lot of “grow the fuck ups” around here, when no one said the song is homophobic, just that it’s not the greatest song she’s ever written and that’s fine because she’s young. I probably would’ve written something along those lines at her age too, I just don’t see her singing it in her mid-twenties. Lots of artists have that one song they wrote early in their career that they don’t look back too fondly on. It ain’t that deep. I’m still going to buy her album. lmao

I wanna say the latter only because she has said she’s “a writer first” since the beginning, and the possibility she finally gained that confidence to release her writing from Marina/Florence. I’m starting to believe people’s theories that they pushed back the album because Lana changed her mind on the limited release of the book, to selling it with the album/making it available worldwide.

DIY means Do It Yourself. In an Ultraviolence interview, she said Dan Auerbach seems to be part of that “DIY club”, which is a term she refers to artists she has a lot of respect for- they do the work themselves; they have a specific vision and passion for their music so they’ll do the hard work to perfectly execute it. Florence, Marina and FKA Twigs all are very independent women, so it’s no surprise Lana is friends with them and admires their music. I also think in a way, she’s been inspired by their hobbies and side projects to do her own... like Florence writing her poetry/lyric book (“Useless Magic”), and Marina’s book + painting/drawing hobby.

Yeah, it’s annoying. lol I could definitely see her in a few years being embarrassed at her decision in releasing it and completely shun its existence in future concerts. At least I hope so. I’m surprised her brother didn’t have any doubts about releasing it since he helps her write these songs.

Yeah, I mean I'm sure a lot of her fans miss interacting with her on her IG too. I know the Honeymoon account was obviously just for the Honeymoon era and the early LFL era, but she could use that one for her more personal/vloggy stuff and keep the account private.

Most of the time, I believe Lana was joking about the “insta baddie” thing.... then she posts about herbs, fake deep spiritual gifts and a random watercolor kit she got from one her LA friends, the random photos of them which no one really cares about... and I think.... maybe, in a way, this is her version of that kind of girl? It’s all so a r t i f i c i a l , and not.... interesting? I could just unfollow her on IG, but I’ve never done that before and I’m still hoping to get news about NFR first through there (probably won’t happen anytime soon).
