I made a video with subtitles for the spoken parts only (not the songs themselves, of course) - when I first watched Tropico, admittedly I only listen to some lines here and there - I was too distracted by everything else. But going along with what she's saying and how the images of the video tie in with it, it made the whole watching experience infinitely better. And I got to really understand what it was about and what she was going for.

The fuck? My Live or Die video was deleted eons ago by Jarrad Rogers (at least, that's what YouTube told me).

I find this whole thing deeply weird. I'm not completely sure what to make of it, but color me skeptical. Are we sure this guy isn't a charlatan or delusional fan? Have we considered the possibility that he may have convinced several people to credit him as a writer on their YouTube videos by sending them messages like the one above so that he could point to them and convince more people that he worked with her? Something doesn't smell right to me.

Edit: Could someone who's been in contact with him ask how long he claims to have worked for UMG and/or worked with Lana?

How many songs has she not written by herself?  I'm a bit disappointed.  I know her lyrics sometimes seem cut-and-paste of very specific motifs and are repeated often.  But still, you think there's an underlying "thing" underneath.  A lot of great artists do that and it's something that attracted to me Lana's music. You get the feeling the artist is digging towards a certain idea more and more and there's something internally important about whatever idea/turn of phrase/etc. that the artist uses so much.  Sometimes I go between thinking that she's really dumb/ditzy or really more intelligent than people give her credit for.  I don't believe there's any kind of editor for the most part because a lot of her lyrics are wonky and awkward.  There's some charm in that.  I'd concede that probably stuff from BTD and Paradise got a look-over.

Also disappointed in this guy.  It's pretty unprofessional of him to be like this, so that makes me doubt his credibility somewhat (but you cannot deny his job title).  It's disheartening to see Lana passing off Coney Island references to some trust fund 23 year old with good looks.

    Edit: also overall --

I hope to hear "Black Beauty" at least on this album near it's original leak.  It gives me female Leonard Cohen vibes which I think Lana would be in favor of.  Ultraviolence definitely seems influenced by A Clockwork Orange.  The feeling definitely feels more dance and electronic-oriented.  It'd be interesting to see "Behind Closed Doors" on it.

She spans such a breadth of genres in her back catalog; that's what is interesting.  She could release like five different EPs with a solid set of songs of the same genre.  So it's hard to guess where'd she go with this.  She can go very electronic and almost touching that excellent SOHN remix of "Ride" like the final release of BCD sounds like (but I don't think he's the producer), to something like doo-wop/60s sound like "Queen of Disaster".  There's a lot of stuff in between too.  Also it's been mentioned that it might be rocky, which she has tons of solid material in too.

I think Interscope will have a lot of sway with this one.  She's starting to top the club charts, but that probably came after the recording of a decent portion of this album.  The label is probably seeing her as a strong Top 40 contender now.  That's why I think it will have quite a bit of electronic influence.  The "debut" didn't land quite as well, but there's some redemption in her as a club act.  It'd be stupid for Interscope not to try to target the demographic she's doing well in.

I have a gut feeling it will take a sorta grunge, rock influenced route. But it totally makes sense to me that it will head into 70s esque territory, a la Summer Wine. She was recording 70s style music with Barrie. Either it was for his new album, her new album, or there's a project all it's own in the making. The news of her recording in LA and Italy (wasn't it?) fit the time frame to me if the album will be out this upcoming summer. I think it will still be cinematic, but I think she'll take a really different but still appealing and Lana-esque route.

makes you realize how strong the thematic consistency is in her work, when a song written more than five years ago can still mesh quite well with a current music video. wonder if she's really going to move past these elements in ultraviolence or just tweak them a bit

    I see it like this:

The Garden of Eden = Paradise = L.A. (the way she expected it to be)

Lana said that The Garden of Eden turned into the Garden of Evil, which is the Land of Gods and Monsters, which is L.A.
Remember the line in "Radio" where she sings: "Now I'm in LA and it's Paradise"
I think the Garden of Eden represents the way Lana imagined it Hollywood/LA to be with Marilyn, Elvis, etc. all being part of it.
She looses her innocent and childish view of it as soon as she's confronted with the truth, she basically took a bite of the truth. Her eyes were opened.

    YES THATS RIGHT

    TROPICO SWEATER
    Available for pre-order now!

Lana’s new video is out soon and I’m looking to print the poster onto lots of sweaters! Because the poster is in black and white, it makes for a great halftone screen print (not like those cheap iron-on pictures)!

Hit the pre-order button and send £25 my way (that’s around $40. Honestly not bad considering it’s a limited Lana sweater, and the shipping is even included!). I need at least £200 to print these in bulk so if just eight of you beautiful people donate, these sweaters can actually become reality!

They can be a great gift for someone, especially during this holiday season. If it hits the goal pretty fast, you might even get it in time for Christmas! Love you all, and thanks for reading!

Hi guys, I'm new on this forum so I don't know if it's right to post this here...
When Lana came to Argentina, her family stayed longer than her and some people had the chance to chat with them. They said they felt comfortable here and were really kind and shared a few things about Lana. Rob said Tropico premieres December 2nd in L.A. and the 4th on NYC.

There are other interesting things they said, for example, that Lana wanted to sing a song in Spanish but could't due to a lack of time. Also, Chuck is preparing a documentary with footage of the shows and such but I don't know where to share it or if you already know these things...

JESUS CHRIST I KNOW SHES NERVOUS

Listen, she doesnt sing better than Miley Cyrus, NO FUCKING WAY. Understand that im not bashing Lana, Im just saying Miley has better control over her voice, are you so deaf to notice that? I prefer Lanas voice too and yes I think her voice is special and only a gifted woman can sound the way she does, but Lanas skill as a vocalist is not very good.

If you want to be a singer you have to SING, you cant avoid performing or singing your songs it doesnt work that way, each day Lana is better at performing, but RIGHT NOW Miley can easily oversing her.
  20. MotelHoney liked a post in a topic by JhnMabius in Miley Cyrus covers Summertime Sadness
I know Miley cant sing Summertime Sadness as good as Lana. But is she really a better singer than Miley?
If Lana sounds better to you then thats great, we all have different taste, Lana is a soprano which means her natural voice is high and girly, Miley is the complete opossite being the deep voice of a woman, a contralto, so we cant really compare this two, at all, but i will for you. Every singer has their weakness and I dont wanna bash Lana, but shes not a better vocalist than Miley.

Dont you see Miley hitting those effortless Summertime Sadness low notes. Lana hits that note once every 50 performances because she lacks control of this part of her voice. Kinda like Britney whos voice is deep but always sings high thats why she ruined her voice and sounded really bad live, lana sings lower than she can and she may destroy her voice.

Lanas voice live doesnt fit with her studio, her technique suddenly dissapears in the stage and it all turns to a mess, low, middle and high notes, and I know shes very aware of that. She has NO CONTROL of her voice.
Miley controls low and middle perfectly. Her highs are good, and bonus she reaches crazy high tones. Lanas tone is more pleasant too most people, but she cant sing like Miley at all. Miley has better control and power.

Lana has great potential, if she had control of her voice imagine all the crazy beautiful stuff she would do. But she doesnt have it, which is ok with all fans of her, we love her anyway, but I have to stop you when you say
Lana sings better than Miley. Each have their weaknesses but Lana is far from being a skilled vocalist.

  23. HausOfMark liked a post in a topic by MotelHoney in Why do you like Lana Del Rey?
Because she's so completely human and perfect yet so imperfect at the same time. It's like reading her diary. She doesn't try and be someone she isn't, despite what others might think.
  24. MotelHoney liked a post in a topic by LittleFool in Why do you like Lana Del Rey?
I was first attracted to her image, music, and herself after seeing the Born to Die music video. I'm a film and film score obsessive, and the sound of the orchestra in her songs paired with the unbelievable cinematography in every video killed me. Plus her throwback references to old Americana (another sappy obsession) was enough to make her my absolute favorite artist. She's everything I've loved...visually, sonically...  ...
But then her. As a person. Her vulnerability makes her so human. I mean, if you see an artist like Katy Perry (poor reference, but just go along with me) discuss why she wrote a song (it was so personal yadiyadiya) it just feels honestly contrived. Lana seem so genuine it seems almost odd compared to other artists around her. That's my opinion.  Don't take it out of context, I'm sure everyone has genuine feelings rooted to their lyrics (the lyrics they wrote, anyway  ) but there's something about Lana...
