I can't get over Cellophane by FKA. omg. Like, I feel stupid for not having discovered it sooner. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRyrvdB_3lQ

If you watched the clip for 'Born to Die' and then this back to back you would think her label had dropped her. Very cute. The animation is an unexpected choice but really isn't distinctive enough to save the video from being boring. I don't think this will ever warrant a repeat watch. Hopefully the release of this means the end of this pauvre theatre aesthetic.

Bahaha I can never actually read your tone, but I doubt the spoken album will be $1. The $1 price tag was Lana being audacious/facetious for her book when it was a passion project and was not going to be widely available, all done for herself satisfaction. Who knows of we'll end up with a $1 book. More likely that, since this will be widely accessible to everyone, it will be a standard price plus to actually benefit the cause she has now named. I have no thoughts on her claiming to want to reconnect to the earth and whatever she is going to throw onto the next album.

Norman Fucking Rockwell - Post-Release Discussion Thread + Poll

I want to NOT look at Ashley in the film clip for Happiness is a Butterfly but her eye raping is SO PROMINENT it's inescapably relentless. It's such an uncomfortable thing to watch, her staring into my soul EVERY clip she's in. It's like, if I looked away from the screen she would escape and then suddenly be in my house, an unwelcome guest watching me do everything. At least Alexis has the decency to pretend to be looking at the CGI butterfly every now and then. -

Is the song, Norman Fucking Rockwell, the only Grammy nominee without a music video? -

I'm trying to find footage! Apparently with Robert Ellis - I'm going off Setlist.com but it's usually pretty accurate. All that's on his Insta is a blurry pic which mentions them singing a 'Leonard Cohen song' https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/lana-del-rey/2019/the-criterion-oklahoma-city-ok-5b9a9350.html She would sound amazing on it (that and 'Hey, That's No Way to Say Goodbye') -

Ah so she sang BAR but couldn't sing it in a key that was comfortable for her choice. The song must be dead and buried in her mind! We truly are lucky we ever got any incarnation of it. Are all these dresses supposed to evoke the aesthetics of Norman Rockwell's paintings? Hopefully WHF is inspired by Megritte or Frida Kahlo! -

I love the album and listen to it everyday. I can still hear the mistakes. They are not mutually exclusive. -

Then I have a simple rebuttle - why are you bringing up Ultraviolence? Dan Auerbach is probably not going to produce the next album, so there is little point criticising and discussing his (yes, bad!) production. I would love to chat through Ultraviolence's annoying points (there are way more than the four you listed) in the Ultraviolence Post Release Thread! You didn't even mention the different mic and recording quality of the strings on Old Money . . . Considering their working relationship, it's reasonable to assume that Jack Antonoff is probably going to produce Lana's next album. Thus, we are keen to discuss the possibility of his sloppy (intentional or not) production. Also, as a side-note, I clearly pointed out that the ambient hiss is "Rick's trademark fuckup" and wasn't a huge attack on Jack, it was a comment that the album being sonically uneven. Highlight my signature for more opinions! Your opinion that these things don't matter are just as valid as our opinion that they do, so getting mad at us and demanding we ignore the flaws we can clearly hear is sort of pointless. Although I suppose it would be handy if I didn't hear music as intricately. Imagine how livid I was when I heard a performer grind their teeth on a cast recording recently. -

If you're a casual fan you're probably not listening closely. Critics are hardly going to be listening to Lana's album on repeat at every part of the day at full volume. The reason we hear it is because we're rabid fans who obsess over these details (as I hope we should - we're fans on LANAboards). I had a quick skip through and these are some of the things I heard (some with timestamps so you can find them quickly) Norman Fucking Rockwell This is so sloppy the whole thing might be style choice. Throughout the opening you can hear things moving, lips smacking etc. 0:18 – 0:22: Lips moving Mariners + Venice Bitch + Happiness is a Butterfly Good! Fuck It I Love You I mean, arguably you all hate the CD alt version so you tell me. Cinnamon Girl 0:28: This is very obviously a different take with clearer vocals. 1:41 – After “Kerosine” you can hear a case or something shift in the background Doin’ Time – Perfect because it has totally different production. Love Song 0:27: Instrumental loop drops in volume and then restarts noticeably. 1:04 – On ‘Oh, be my once in a lifetime’, the mic placement is closer to her, which causes the vocal line to be louder. This doesn’t happen in the second chorus, but the bass is boosted higher. How to Disappear 0:07 onwwards: The instruments are crackling and peaking slightly on the bass. Maybe it’s a . . . choice. 0:51: The microphone peaks and her voice whistles (from no hi pass filter) on the word ‘to’ 2:37: The mixing is bad. The vocals are too quiet compared to the first portion of the song, now with very loud backing. The Next Best American Record 0:07 + 0:10 there is a scuff on the guitar where the frets are moved. Vocals have an ambient hiss behind them (not Jack’s fault, a trademark Rick fuck up) 1:21 “Fame” reverb echo. Bartender Vocals have the ambient hiss The Greatest 4:08: in the left speaker you can hear the guitar shifting against pants. California Vocals have ambient hiss Hope Fine I guess, but would you really consider this as well produced as the rest of the album. You can hear lip smacks and the mouth opening and there’s hiss but they proudly did this in one take . . . At the end of the day, you can clearly hear these nitpicks. They're nitpicks, but they're there, and you look like a fool for saying that they don't exist simply because they do. I love love LOVE NFR! but it's undeniable that HOWEVER, if you're not an audiophile or you're not consistently listening to it with high quality headphones, you would never pick up on these. This shit happens all the time across every genre - at the end of Florence + The Machine's 'What the Water Gave Me' you can hear someone moving their drumsticks, you can hear someone cough in the back of Madonna's 'Don't Cry for Me Argentina', on The Little Mermaid legacy collection random instrumental fades come up here and there. It's disappointing when simple mistakes like this happen since to me, it sounds like someone hasn't given it a proper listen with the same care that's been put into making it. Maybe it's a stylistic choice, and a result of the album being made quickly, but frankly I'm not interested in having this lack of attention again on White Hot Forever simple because I like cleaner sounding records. Jack is a talented musician and will go down as a modern legend, and NFR! deserves the praise buttt Yes, here here. How can anyone claim that NFR is more cohesive than HM when its music was produced by at least three different people! TNBAR has the same textual and sonic patches as Heroin and 13 Beaches. Bartender is beautiful but fuckin' random. Doin' Time is super hot but from like, literally another planet. Ultraviolence is more cohesive but sonically HM has it going on from start to end. -

Lana and Jack to perform/appear at the Grammy Museum (Oct 13)

I wonder what profession Win will do when he grows up? Anyway, very cute performance - I would love to see her in more intimate settings. Imagine seeing Lana without rabid fans screaming the lyrics. Acoustic NFR come through! Ridiculous that the dancers were there and I wish she would just ditch the backing track but she's such a kook. Would love an acoustic live set EP. -
Two years on and I am reflecting more and more on Heroin. "I'm flying to the moon again, dreaming about heroin. How it gave you everything, and took your life away. I put you on an aeroplane, destined for a foreign land I hope that you'd come back again, and tell me everything's okay, baby and the tragedy of singing to someone who is long dead: "I hope that I come back one day, to tell you that I've really changed, baby" My other absolute favourites: "On Monday they destroyed me, but by Friday I'm revived" - God Knows I Tried "I'm hoping at the gates, they'll tell me that you're mine" - Born to Die "I wore diamonds on the day of our wedding, for our day in the sun. On the same day my mother to be said she wouldn't come" - Fine China "I love you the first time, I love you the last time . . . I'll love you forever - I'll really love you forever" - Ultraviolence "Was I wrong to go on like a little fool? It's amazing what women in love will do." - Big Eyes and the holy intertextual, ultimate hipster cool references of "My boyfriend's pretty cool, but he's not as cool as me" from Brooklyn Baby which evolves into "My boyfriend's back - and he's cooler than ever" in Lust for Life.
