  2. Can we have an 'Ignore Status' option for members? We can ignore posts and signatures so I wonder if this can be implemented if it isn't already? Also, is there a way to turn off the default for mobile site? I always want the desktop version on my phone but the DRAMA of having to change it every time. . .

I can't disagree more with your points, but while most of these are obviously objective I do find your criticism on the lyrics interesting as I know that you're also a big fan of Love Song (I am too). Love's lyrics are nostalgic and coquettish, but also earnest - I feel there is a very close tie to how straight forward both songs are in their messaging since both thematically are discussing young love, and both a pretty wistful in their reflection. "It's enough to be young and in love" runs the same flavour as "Be my once-in-a-lifetime" and "Thanks for the high life" as it's reflecting on the simplistic joy of being love/in love. I can't say the lyrics on Love are any more, or less, sophisticated than Love Song. But I definitely think the lyrics are more tongue-in-cheek and clever than tracks like say Lucky Ones or Diet Mountain Dew. Also the perception, the retrospective in the tense of understanding she is now not in the same generation is a really charming touch. Worldy, wise and experienced after experiencing what she is singing about - hence the tense changing on the final chorus. LFL came out in the months that I was getting interested in Lana but didn't really know much of her catalogue, so I wonder if I would be one of the 'people' you mention perceiving her as a boring artist. If that would be the case, I think she definitely defied my expectations. She is singing about how GREAT, wholesome and fulfilling it is to be in love. I think the music video certainly helps with the enjoyment of the song - paired with the track it is so rich with intertextual references. I remember loving her cheeky broad smile and shimmy on "Uh uh / Don't worry, baby" since it's making light and stripping away the drama of 'young love' (which is ridiculous - somehow the most important thing in the world at the time, but on reflection nothing special). It was certainly unexpected for - what I knew as the 'Young and Beautiful singer' - to make a breezy, warm song that told people not to worry, and how even the most mundane things are special when you're in love. Love the instrumental though - everything down to the Emile's samples that were included in Off to the Races. It also has the best message - just don't worry, baby. @Elle, I can understand your perception of the song being really soured, but ranking Love below the identity crisis that is Coachella is . . !

  9. Yeah yeah I know people think this, but can you break that down a little for me as to why you think that. Lyrics? Melody? Vocal delivery? Production? Circumstance? Personal association bias? Just incase someone says 'All of them' or just one word, I'm hoping it could be elaborated on.
  10. I'm so intrigued by your dislike/ambivalence of Love! I have noticed this among a few members - personally I find the song to be uplifting, nostalgic, light and gives me a warmfuzzy feeling. What drags it down for you? It is one of my favourite songs from her. @All Other Members pls weigh in.
  11. Yes, she said this in the Ultraviolence track by track discussion. The original publishers hold a percentage of the songs proceeds. From Lana del Rey Wiki: [Old Money] is a melodic and lyrical development of the song "Methamphetamines" which in itself is melodically based on "What Is a Youth" (or "Love Theme From Romeo and Juliet") by Nino Rota.
  12. It is absolutely fake. The credits are just ripped from 'California'. Even the 2019 release date is on there. Why would a channel with 75 users called LUXURY be premiering this track. Also those are nothing like Lana's vocals. Downvote this shit to hell.
  13. Another delicious topic. Praise be. She looks terrific in 6, 7 and 9. I settled on 7 for a little bit more thought, and the great angle. Simplicity, familiarity and great hair. So many hilarious bad ones due to lighting etc. I think I have to go with 5 and 8 being the worst. 8 is the winner from those tragic pink nails and very unflattering pose. She looks lost and barely holding it together too.
  14. That's good to hear! I haven't gotten around to it yet, but the promo for it looked actually interesting so I've put it onto my Watch list. I wanted to catch up on some movies with actors I loved so I just saw Room and then Still Alice. Both great actresses with Brie Larson and Julianne Moore - both movies are a little distressing and I have no idea why I thought I should watch them back to back lol. Room was great, but Still Alice was a bit flat (although Julianne carries it and captures how terrifying it would be to lose memory . . . a true horror movie).
  15. LMAO at everyone thinking she was singing "Angelino" Gurl, did you ever recover? Just incase, or if anyone is wondering, it is 'share' though - what you're hearing is the reverb of the 'sh' part of 'share' echoing. You can hear another clear example of it at 0:48 when she sings "Lean on your sycamore tree" and about a second later you hear the "tr" part of tree echo. And then the same effect is repeated at 1:34, and throughout the rest of the song there are little consonants bleeding. Also you can hear the piano pedal being released at certain points which can add to the confusion.

  17. A premonition. A look. A concept. Yo soy la princessa. ETA: I have a photographic memory but I can't remember how I discovered Lana's music. One day it just suddenly appeared. I knew vaguely of Lana del Rey but I started listening and it was all familiar like a dream even though I'd never heard it before.
  18. I could have articulated the last two points, but to elaborate: The song titles whatever, they're yuck for me but probably inconsequential in the grand scheme. But the artwork and the roll-out of the singles and 'fan' singles were really nonchalant. It did have the vibe of 'whatever I don't care' and I do believe if you're very blasé about these sorts of things, it's really hard to expect others to also have respect. It ties back in with self-promoting, but telling everyone that the album isn't a big deal and then expecting it to be a big deal is counter-intuitive. The question of it not being as good is of course subjective, but undeniably there are less radio-friendly singles on this album. We know this based on individual song placements, which are virtually nothing, and certainly not #1 material (songs, NOT album). Her management seems to not have promoted the works appropriately and the tracks are either too long, have obscene titles, or are just not poppy hits (which is what the Grammys are all about). Therefore I think it's reasonable to say it didn't have as many 'hits'. omg do people not know my name I try so hard lel

  21. Yes I'm with you . . . it also comes across as externalising and playing a bit of a victim. If we've interpreted it right, she's essentially saying "Oh haha usually everyone HATES my work which is very sophisticated, so it's so unexpected and random that people now like it!"

I think she is saying the reception of the record (among fans, critics, GP?) was so different to what she'd had with her previous work; it was more like what she perceives her peers (Ariana, Taylor etc) receive when they release an album. She might be referring to the critical fanfare and unanimous praise. So she thinks she is the only one that never gets that praise, then basically alludes to that idea that the reasons why it was received so openly as opposed to her previous (just as good works) will eventually reveal themselves. Then guesses it was because she made very accessible music this time, rather than previous albums. Maybe it's her clumsy way of acknowledging she sold-out/didn't work too hard on this album and got a lot of praise but isn't really sure why.
