  1. A lot of people have said that Deftones are the smart guy's answer to Linkin Park, the band who has inspired LP, amazing music, etc. Well, I tried to like them, but I wasn't able to stick long enough to see how similar they are. What I've always loved about Linkin Park is that, despite all the screaming, the music oozes of vulnerability - especially when Chester sings. It's no wonder so many people related to their songs, since they're as close to trauma processing as it gets (in mainstream rock music). It's an abuse narrative (mostly on HT and Meteora, but it's sprinkled on new songs too). They're placing themselves in the position of a victim, not an abuser, and that's why their music can be extremely therapeutic. Deftones are entirely different. I don't care how good they or White Pony is. All I hear is a typical metal misogynist macho douchebag: (altough I guess "the you're into depression cause it matches your eyes" lyrics are good - makes me think about how every few years, a new "cool" way to be depressed gets invented... it was an awful idea to put them in a song which shames feminity and female sexuality). Probably there are more cool things to them(like when they pull Geoff Rickly on that one song on Koi no Yokan), but NO - at least untill they do something about their attitude. So if listening to Deftones is smart, and to Linkin Park is stupid - well, I don't wanna be smart at all.
  2. I love Emilie's poetry, even though I rarely read/listen to it. I wish that she made new songs with this level of lyrical mastery.... BTW, this poem has reminded me of Tori Amos' song Girl - it's possible that it has inspired Emilie, since it touches on similar theme (at least in my opinion): She's been everybody else's girl Maybe one day she'll be her own
  3. I'm not sure if it's your cup of tea (music recs are tricky!), but Kow Ohtani's Shadow of the Colossus OST is really gorgeous: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zh6KOSrwig8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ib8ilOHhPPg It has also a lot of epic songs on it, like this one: I mostly chose the slower and more athmospheric ones.
  4. I used the search and found nothing, so I hope hope that there wasn't a thread like this yet It's pretty self-explanatory, I guess. They can also be about what's going on in your head. Let's share interesting lyrics! Nothing else matters. None of this is real. (Thursday - Stay True)
  5. 121. Snake tattoos are the best chick magnet
  6. I tried The National too.... and failed miserably. Terrible Love and Ghost are beautiful songs, though... even though the rest of the record is an absolute borefest.
  7. I have to say that it's definitely not for everyone. I usually dislike this kind of alternative/indie/whatever rock, but this record really spoke to me. I think that whether you will like it or not hugely depends on if you can relate to the lyrics and presented story or not. You reminded me of how I despise Bon Iver... everyone says that it's the best thing ever, but I just can't The guy's voice is absolutely annoying, and I hate that it's The Ultimate Hipster Music for Going to Starbucks On A Cold Winter Day. (And than there's this polish singer who tries to be exactly like Bon Iver... )
  8. You know, I actually considered writing about Florence in this topic... but I didn't really try to like her, it was more like start playing the record - listen to one song - switch to something else - never try again... so I considered Marina a better choice. I love The Antler's Hospice, but didn't manage to get into Burst Apart... only time will tell if I succeed. The thing with the music I love is that I never fell in love with it during the first or second listen. For example, it took me over a year to fall in love with Brand New's masterpiece. I started enjoying Born to Die during my third attempt (with many months in between). I never know if something is for me or isn't until I give it multiple chances.

  10. I really hope that I'm not the only one who had this problem... You hear about a thing, let's say that it's some band. Maybe it's popular, maybe all your friends currently like it or recommend it to you... You have high hopes. The problem is that liking the thing might be harder than you thought... so you endlessly force yourself to listen to it, in hopes that sooner or later something's gonna click. My personal example is Marina and the Diamonds. I've heard a lot about how interesting and smart her lyrics are, how creative she gets with her videos... Not to mention that a lot of feminists praised her. My friend is extremely into her. A lot of Lana stans also like Marina. I really wanted to like her music, but obviously thing went awful. I found her first record boring, and Electra Heart was too... American-poppy for me (no offense). I tried to convince myself that I like it for a week or so, and then gave up. Not to mention that I started hating her lyrics, because they were pasted all over tumblr like some Bible gospel. Despite that, I must say that Bubblegum Bitch (I know that I kind of contradict myself, but what can I do) and Teen Idle are fun songs. Have any of you guys and gals ever shared this experience? Doesn't have to necessarily be with music, can be with anything else (actually, I have another example - a certain writer's work - but I am not strong enough to get into this shithole right now )

    Britney Spears

Thanks! I guess it's a great idea. I forgot to mention that I listened to Britney Jean singles... Alien and Perfume are okay, but Work Bitch is awful. Just wanted to ask - what's her best live performance/dvd? And thanks for guiding me to Godney enlightment!

    Britney Spears

Seeing that we both agree on this wonderful little record, and you're quite the Britney stan - which record should I listen to next? I only listened to Blackout and My Prerogative (like them, even though I don't know them by heart yet). Any other quality Brit records out there?
  14. I love this! Collarbone tattos are one of the loveliest IMHO (For some reason, the board didn't let me use the img code... click on images to see bigger picture) Otherwise that personally I consider portrait tattoo a big no-no, I kind of like the shading, the way the glasses are done.... there's something wrong with her nose tho ? Super literary - isn't it kind of tempting fate? Like the font tho. If I was the girl and got the tattoo as a result of a happy relationship, I know how I would feel after break-up every time I looked at it or even thought about it's existance...
  15. I need to get on replaying Metal Gear Solid 4 and than playing Revengeance so hard, but I'm sick and can't force myself to do anything constructive

    Hole

I know, double post and all - but this is important and all Hole stans need to know about it https://www.facebook.com/everybodylovesourtown/posts/10152000728333412?stream_ref=10 *keeping my fingers crossed so hard*

    Britney Spears

Just listening to In the Zone for the first time and it's soooo good. Probably would be better if I had someone to enjoy and party to it with , but meh. Love Britney's voice on it, not to mention that it's a really good writing background music. Of course not the kind of thing that I usually listen to, but it's still amazing Plus, the I'll light your fire/ Your one desire/Pull on me, baby/And I'll take you higher lyrics made me think of Lana.
  20. The cover is nice in itself, but I don't think that it fits Lana's style...
  21. I've seen this movie about two years ago, so of course I completely forgot about this scene. Amazing find! It always makes me happy when Twin Peaks is referenced.
