That song is too underappreciated on here tbh, it's flawless

Lana Del Rey
You are at constant war with your vices and try hard to be a good person. You enjoy classic music and film, and you have a slight obsession with Old Hollywood and its icons. Although people may expect someone of your success to be conceited, you are down to earth and kind to all, even to those who do not deserve it. You have tons of acquaintances, but value the relationships with your close friends and family members who have been with you from the beginning most. Some may see you as guarded and perhaps a bit depressing to be around, but those who know you best know this isn't true.

A few disjointed thoughts about the film, which on a whole, I enjoyed.
1. I enjoyed the way they danced during Body Electric. Watching them dance wasn't like watching people dance in the club or ballroom, but almost its own hybrid. It looked natural like they didn't care who watched, just what their bodies felt like doing. The way they moved showed how curious they were about the world and their bodies.
2. It seemed like John was the central figure on Eden. Was he supposed to be the "God" (and Jesus his son??? idk lol).
3. Adam and Eve seemed centered on one big sin for their story lines. Eve- lust and Adam- wrath. This seemed to make sense to me, because Marilyn was promoting sexuality and John violence (or rather more defense I suppose) and Adam and Eve sinned by blowing those two traits out f proportion.
4. The ending is the only part that confuses me. When they began floating were those things in the sky supposed to be UFOs? if so kinda wtf or were they thunder clouds?
5. Elvis' reactions to everything. it killed the mood for me.

The only thing I didn't like was the aspect ratio. It works when you watch it in person, I guess, but it was ~too~ widescreen. God damn it Mandler.

okay here's what i think. Tropico was by no means a cinematic masterpiece. it lacked a cohesive plot line and seemed more like 3 very interesting concepts tied together. this isn't a bad thing though. I kind of liked that it relied so heavily on themes that we're all familiar with. they're the themes lana's constantly sung about through most of career: falling from grace, the concept of sin and hedonism, and redemption. In that sense, Tropico is great expression of the character lana del rey portrays.
Furthermore, if we look at Tropico less critically and enjoy it at face value, we have 27 minutes of visually striking material. The colour palette is just absolutely beautiful imo. Especially when we compare each three parts separately. Body Electric looks airy and soft, almost a fantasy world just beyond our grasp with the the blurred pinkish hues. G&M looks much more grungey with focus on that steel blue colour and the contrast of her red lingerie (probs symbolic but let's not go there). Finally we have Bel Air which focuses heavily on yellow/gold tones. idk it's just so pretty. i didn't sit down and watch Tropico expecting an instant classic, but i was entertained and enthralled and that's good enough for me.

YES
I also took the ending to be her cleansing herself and repenting from sins (maybe even dying/going to heaven ?)

I see it like this:
The Garden of Eden = Paradise = L.A. (the way she expected it to be)
Lana said that The Garden of Eden turned into the Garden of Evil, which is the Land of Gods and Monsters, which is L.A.
Remember the line in "Radio" where she sings: "Now I'm in LA and it's Paradise"
I think the Garden of Eden represents the way Lana imagined it Hollywood/LA to be with Marilyn, Elvis, etc. all being part of it.
She looses her innocent and childish view of it as soon as she's confronted with the truth, she basically took a bite of the truth. Her eyes were opened.

There was no Marylin, Elvis, John in the Bible either, was there? Not everything has to be just like in the bible.

Definitely gonna rewatch it when I have the time to, but rn I really agree with what @@TrailerParkDarling said. She shouldn't have worked with Mandler; maybe Woodkid would've been a better choice. BJ and BTD were iconic videos in my opinion and perhaps Woodkid could've made the video more subtle? Like in Tropico the symbolism and the general storyline was v obvious. If it was Woodkid-directed then maybe there would've been more space to interpret what the video meant. But then of course Lana did say she worked really well with Mandler so ~idk~

Not a fan of it.. I'm happy she got to complete her vision but I think- maybe with another director ?- it could have been done better, and not so damn LITERALLY. There was so much more artistry in Born To Die, for example and the Blue Jeans vid- for me.
It was odd how after her fall from grace led her to hanging out with Latinos.. I could see that causing some outrage.
Also, she recited some of those last stanzas in ISTBE- holiness of the human vessel and what not- the body is the soul.. I wonder if she really believes that? I get the hedonistic pov but I do wonder what she's trying to say.
I really don't know what to think still.. lol.. I was pulling for Shaun Ross but I don't think he fit the video whatsoever. (That choreography was cringe worthy) Even Charlie would have been a better choice, and we all know Lana is fine w/ kissing siblings.

Just a quick conspiracy..
In one of the trailer park scenes she places a bag of frozen veggies on her head.
Could it mean that her guy hit her?
I mean a lot of the scenes from Tropico are similar to the lyrics of Hundred Dollar Bill with Jimmys ultra violent swings, ya dig?

Tropico was pretty much exactly like I expected based on her comments about it and the teasers. Not sure yet whether that's a good thing or not.

One weirdly pointless short film.

I have mixed feelings about Tropico. I waited it for so long and was so excited about it but when I saw it I was a little disappointed. I still liked, it was really good. It wasn't just as good as I hoped it to be. Some points it was a little bit boring imo and I didn't like Shaun Ross at all

Hey guys, this is my first post on here, I've actually done quite a lot of artwork, I'm a design student. Chelsea Hotel No.2 is one of my favorite Lana songs, It came out right after I had my heart broken for the first time. I'd known about the song before, but Lana's cover just made it so much more personal for me. Here's my Chelsea Hotel No.2 artwork, let me know what you guys think.
Here's my unfinished Heavy Hitter Cover
And a real quick attempt at White Pontiac Heaven
I LOVE the song TV in Black & White. It's so melancholy, but at the same time sweet. I felt like I needed to make a cover for it. I used an old Crosley Television Ad and I think the bottom portion is still lacking seriously. I'd love some feedback/advice on it. I'll probably be working on another more complicated cover for this song as well, so stay tuned.
Version without Jail Cell Background:
Live Or Die
Summer Wine:
A friend of mine asked me to make her a cover for her unreleased folder, so I threw this together. It's not real good, but I thought I'd post it anyway.
It's not really a cover, but I colorized this photo that was only released in black and white
Here's three quick covers made for Happiest Girl In The Whole USA and The End Of The World
Here's something I tried with Florida Kilos. I'm gonna play with it a bit more, but I can't figure out what to do with the work Kilos

Some of you saw an earlier version of this already, and I was originally going to post this when Tropico would go live on Vevo but I just wanted to show everyone because I worked hardcore on it! I might make a sequel to this poster since there are so many visuals in the film I want to play with. Let me know what you think.
If you want to share it, share it via my Tumblr or my Facebook post
I know it's really big, but it's worth the details.

Whats up to all the good folks out there of Lana boards. Just wanted to use this story as my introduction to the message board
Been a fan of Lana's music for about year now. & What really got me into her was when i heard Off To The Races. Everything about that record just pulled me in. From her 50-60s adventurous vocal performance, to lyricism, content & just the overall production. She just really gave me an experience. Pretty soon after i started searching the net (youtube, google, & music sites) for anything related to her, and from that point on i couldn't get enough. & It was during this time where i began experimenting with a lot of the stuff i heard from her, being that im producer. Remixing some of the songs that caught my attention. Soon after a couple of the songs that i had worked on and released was noticed & realized by one of the writers, Mike Daly featured on Born To Die. & He showed his appreciation letting me know how much he loved it, and i was extremely humbled and honored. Shortly after, Lana followed me, & i just began to love her even more lol.

Latch liked a post in a topic by Rebel in Songs of Sentimental Value
Not sure if this should be in entertainment or conversation, but I wanted to make a thread so we all can share music that is sentimental to us, whether you just want to express your love for the melody or the lyrics or if the song has a personal meaning to you. It can be a song from your childhood or a song that you associate with an event or anything like that. I just really enjoy reading about people's psychological and personal association with music. *Prays that no one made this thread already*I
I think one day, maybe thirty or forty years from now, we'll be singing Lana songs to our kids. *Hums Ride as I cry myself to sleep*
I'll start.
500 Miles
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwB2A9HHaCU
Donna Donna
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYnKll5PD3A
When I was really young my mom would sing both of these songs to me when I couldn't sleep and it's just one of the most beautiful yet haunting songs I've ever heard, and I really really love it. I listen to "500 Miles" once in a while when I miss my family because I'm like 8000 miles away from home. I don't really get homesick, but this song just puts me into a sleepy and sentimental mood. Donna Donna is some sort of Jewish theatre song apparently, and my mom would get the lyrics wrong because she learned it when she was young and sort of just hummed through it and everything. So yeah, these are my two sentimental songs from my childhood. I've got a few more but I don't want to write about all of them in one post.

Latch liked a post in a topic by Sitar in LANALYSIS: Relating Songs To Known/Assumed Relationships
Welcome to LANALYSIS, where we get real unhealthy in our obsessions and absolutely revel in it.
This is a project I've been maintaining for a while now--Lana + Analysis...get it? The basic purpose is to relate every one of her songs (that's right, every last one of them) to her known and assumed relationships. Not a stone is left unturned. Privacy is violated. The fans rejoice. Mind you, it’s all pure speculation, but ~this is what makes us stans~
It’s pretty long but an interesting read, if I do say so myself. I hope you enjoy it in all it’s updated glory, and I will continue to update as new information is revealed and new songs come out. I will also be adding pictures, sources, etc. Stay tuned!
Let’s get started!
EARLY RELATIONSHIPS (1985 - ~2005)
LOCAL ROCKSTARS (~2005 - 2009)
YOU MADE ME NICE FOR A WHILE (2009 - 2011)
POST-BREAKTHROUGH (2011+)
IN THE LAND OF DISCREPANCIES
ADVANCED LANALYSIS
IN SUMMARY..
Lingering questions…
- Who the fuck is K?
- Who the fuck is Ray?
- Who the fuck is Bill? Is Bill really K? Does Bill matter at all?
- What significance do cars play? She mentions eight in total (white Corvette, white Pontiac, blue Chevy Nova/Chevrolet, Cadillac convertible, Mercedes, pickup truck, Lamborghini, Bugatti Veyron)
- When was she/who was she with in New York City and New Jersey? Ditto LA? Most mysterious and pressing, her time in the South?
- Did she have a fling with Bradley Soileau?
- Did Chris C. matter enough to her for her to write songs about him?
Assumptions Made:
- Lana was a gogo dancer.
- K is a drug dealer/murderer, dead or on death row.
- Jimmy is her ex-fiancé, addicted to cocaine despite a Wikipedia page stressing how healthy he is, associated with Chevrolets.
- Much of Sirens is about completely different relationships.
- She fucked Bradley.
- Mike controlled her career but their relationship wasn’t associated with anything fucked up like drugs or stripping.
Thanks for reading! I crave both your feedback and theories! This remains a forum collaboration and I don't claim to have the final say on Lanalytical manners.
For the sake of believability, I'm always hunting receipts, and currently:
- The interview where she refers to "Yayo" as the prequel to "Video Games"
- The interview where she describes "Video Games" as dealing with mutual sobriety in a relationship--her and her partner both staying clean.
- The interview where she talks about meeting her boyfriend in rehab and being dazzled by his small-scale celebrity.
