Pls, just let this be a Methamphetamines/Old Money situation instead of another Life is Ugly mess.

What type of negativity? This thread is full of theories and speculations (which is truly the fun of it). We also discussed her hearing about the story and just being inspired by it. If you don't believe in it (which I don't even really believe in it) that's fine, but you sound like nobody's allowed to post shit on here any more without hacking into her personal data. This thread already dry enough, let people have fun with it.

Are y'all disagreeing or what? This is the truth.
I believe it's more of a conflict though between her personal obsession with Hollywood legends and the realization of the illusion and wrongfulness that lays within idolization. A true Gemini.

HM and LFL seem to show a different approach. It's more about her telling the listener or society as a whole (instead of just telling herself/sharing her perception) to ditch the concept of fame and glory and finally evolve to a new era of equality in which there is no godly worshipping of selected human beings (celebs). I think this may also relate to her wanting to get rid of her tattoos and blend into the masses.

  23. G4YB1RD liked a post in a topic by MahaMaha in Does anyone think Lana's latest lyrics suggest that she's an atheist/agnostic now?
I'm baffled how many of you understand her religous lyrics as literal references. Not to say anybody is wrong here, I just assumed the way I feel about it was quite common.

I think she has always been agnostic in her work (excluding the cult ridden May Jailer era). She portrays the struggle of every human being to question one's own purpose. God is the only figure whether he exists or only exists as a common fantasy amongst our culture to might have an answer to that. Pawn Shop Blues and Coachella both describe the will to let go of everything earthly imaginable just to get a piece of that universal knowledge of life. Just like Eve she wants to taste the forbidden fruit to gain knowledge even if that results in her losing life/losing eternal life. To me the constant mention of God seems more like a feeling of desperation and the last remaining hope. If there is no heaven, none of us will ever find the true meaning of life. Yet death (and the following encounter with God) seems to be the only way to answer her questions as it is humanly impossible (the Absurd) to figure out what our purpose is. Camus believed to accept the absurdity of life and continue living is the true revolt (contrary to suicide being the revolt against the absurdity) which could relate to songs like L4L. I guess that could be a shift.

But then again a lot of her songs give different perspectives on the matter. From claiming one's own human power and dismissing anything above that (Disco/Gods &Monsters) to surrendering completely to the unknown entity (Bel Air/Old Money) or even trying to create heaven on earth (Ride).

Honeymoon would've become a fan favourite if it wasn't for the poor single choices and the horrible visuals. Salvatore should've been the first single with a gangsta type MV shot in a raunchy Casino.
For this era the visuals have really saved the songs and the concept of the album because it does help to shape the artistic world which the songs are happening in.
