Anyone who can't see that LDR is in a perfect control of her submisson is in a state of denial. She's much stronger than any of her men.

Or the priest... Anyone else remember that whole thing with the reverend? Maybe that was just a roleplay?

I wanted to say this too.
She's probably into kinky stuff, but she doesn't strike me as the person who would make a big deal out of it, like, she doesn't see sex as a degrading or dirty thing. And really we shouldn't. Everybody does it.
If she is into those kind of things, so what. It doesn't really matter, as far as we are concerned she is an amazing singer and we love her.

Exactly what I think: she's not into hardcore BDSM. I would add that she probably enjoy some role play as well. I can imagine her as a naughty schoolgirl being spanked by her teacher

I was already into Jimmy Dean, MM, Nabokov (Lolita is my favourite book), Whitman, Elvis etc and her references made me love her even more. But I am learning some stuff about Americana, Bohemian poetry and Beat culture thru Lana. I am thankful an artiste like LDR is in this world.
  8. Wilde_child liked a post in a topic by Valentino in Lana is a heavy breather!
People who aren't trained in singing tend to breathe loudly to get the breath they need for their songs. If you hear classically trained singers, they tend to go out of their way to eliminate the breathing noise. In popular music, hearing the breathing is viewed as raw and real as opposed to poor technique, so they don't even try to take it out (it's pretty easy to edit out breath intakes a lot of the time...). Lana aims for a "sultry" sound on songs like OUAD, which requires a breathy tone.

I can't say if she does it more or less than other singers. For the most part, I don't notice it so I'd say her breath intake isn't much more than any other singer. I know this one song by this one singer that's gorgeous but her constant sharp breaths make it sound unprofessional and ugly. She clearly had trouble singing the song and you can hear it in the performance. It's kind of a shame that it came out so noticeable because it's a beautiful song.

To hear the breathing of a singer is used by especially female singers as a method to create rawness and intimacy, check the first recods of Tori Amos. There it was heavily used.

Now that I have your attention... I know it sounds weird, but in listening to some of Lana's songs in comparison to other singers (I'm talking album recordings, not live), I've noticed that you hear her intakes of breath a lot more strongly than most other singers. Whether her breathing is naturally louder than others because she smokes, I don't know, but it makes me wonder if some others make it a point to back off of the mic a little when they breathe in, and Lana doesn't. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, just something I noticed... it actually adds an air of realism, and, dare I say it, sexiness to her voice. She does it in "Once Upon a Dream" a lot, and in that song, it actually adds to the haunting quality.

    Any thoughts/opinions?

Lana's music is a world of hidden gems, and I'm fine with UV being one of them. In a hundred years time when Lana's official discography surpasses her unreleased discography, we'll be able to look back at Ultraviolence, and be like: "God, that was a fucking solid album". It'll be that single masterpiece in all our record collections.

We have to wait. The album didn't really flop but yeah, she's like... meh... and I don't know why because she was extremely excited. She was so happy on the North American tour. Let's be patient.

I just don't understand why she just let the album go. She was so passionate about it before - I remember her saying it made her "forget the old record". There were billboards being put up and pictures and promos and teasers in April/May. Even if it flopped sales-wise, does she not still love UV for what it is and have that connection with the songs themselves? I'm hoping this is a label issue rather than her. I mean, I guess its only 4 months in so at this point in the BTD era we didn't even have NA or SS videos yet, so I guess she could come up with something still, but theres no real indication anything is in the works.

Oh well, at least nothing is better than half-attempts which would just be even more disappointing. And she is starting to sing more UV live so that's something too.

It feels like the UV project has been abandoned by both Lana and the record company. Even the UV single was a non starter . Not even a tour in the UK to promote it. I really don't understand what's happened, really frustrating as a fan who was looking forward to the videos and remixes etc.

Any ideas or have I missed something?

The kiss photos are very beautiful, specially the one in which Lana looks lovingly at Chuck.
I don't see it as cheap either, and I read it was for some Art project.
I get a gay vibe from Chuck anyway, so ok.

From the point of view of someone who doesn't know much about musical genres, I would really love if you guys gave very specific examples of how Lana is/isn't "jazz" or even "jazz influenced". I'd like to see you guys say "(songnamehere) does (jazzthing) at (timejazzthinghappensinsong)" or "The lyrics ("lyricshere") are "jazz" because (whyitsfollowsajazztrend).

I'm genuinely curious as to how she is jazz because I was in the crowd that kind of dismissed it as her imagination but I'm open to being proven wrong.

Miley stole a good part in the beginning of the year, now Taylor Pop Swift will steal the remain ones. It's the rise of Hope Destiny, Pop Bop Taytay and Elizabeth the Great. Gaga is screaming and making voodoo dolls to get her gays back while Madonna gives that smirk smile and evil laugh at them and thinking : enjoy bitches because I will get all those queers back, their souls belongs to me

I'm so bad with music styles... I wish I could find a site that would explain in details, with audio examples, what is what. Music styles for dummies or something like that. That would help musically retarded people like me to better understanding why Lana is not doing jazz-inspired music.

I could download old jazz albums, but I don't want to. I'm curious about music being analyzed with word.

Listen to Lana's albums carefully. The jazz influence is all over the place! Her vocals specially, jazzy and bluesy...
"The Other Woman" version, that's Lana's type of jazz!

Gaga is singing standards, Del Rey pens jazz-inspired songs. There's the difference.
