I want Lana to get experimental again!! I feel with Jack it’ll be the only time she’ll truly experiment again!! So I hope she shocks us & day does her most pop record or her most jazziest record! Something different but still her would be so fresh. I want her to go out of her zone with vocals too! She drones & refuses to use her Lizzy voice n I want it so bad. Can we get her erotica n have her make a sex album with Stargirl vibes?

The next album NEEDS to have droning guitars, towering reverb, wailing vocals, psychedelic instrumentals, tons of electric guitar and surf rock influence, maybe some really well crafted trip-hop beats and dark lyricism Make it happen Lana !

California's about deportation in the Trump era and a lover's desperation for him to return to America

'hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have - but I have it' appreciation post. The fact that 'hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have - but I have it' has the least votes in the poll is truly disgusting. Where is the taste? Where is it? 'hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have - but I have it''s a classic, a discography highlight, a song that showcases true honest emotions and growth as a person. One day people will wake up and realize how excellent 'hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have - but I have it' truly is, and I'll be ready for that day.

I know. My opinion that it isn't about Trump is just crazy! Sorry that it's so unreasonable and far-fetched!

She literally said that it's about what I said. It's one of the few songs on NFR that she actually explained:

6'2 ... she either used it as a generic measure to indicate someone who's tall (which "6'2" is often used for), or someone's height in Google is out by an inch, which is likely. She has three or four exes who range in height from 6'1 - 6'4.

The greatest hits so differently now that it's winter. I remember hearing it for the first time on the beach, it was around 10 AM, I was sitting on the sand in front of the ocean, it was windy, but I was trying to be at peace, which I'm not often at all. I loved it so much, but couldn't relate, because I was still doing nothing the most of all, just trying to enjoy the summer as much as I could through hard times and depression.
Now when I listen to it, it breaks my heart because everything has changed in a few months. I started my second year at university and I am often overwhelmed with work, and my mental health went so low again for so many reasons. Now I feel the lyrics. I'm wasted and I miss doing nothing the most of all. Not to sound dramatic or anything, but you really cannot fully appreciate and understand a song if you don't live the lyrics. Even in the most simple lyrics like "I miss Long Beach and I miss you babe", you can find your deepest feelings.

that's entirely subjective. imo, honeymoon is much more glamorous, luscious, and refined, whereas NFR is more raw, stripped back, and casual

The title track's fucking timeless. Go to the airport. Get on a plane, the intro reminds me so much of it and the feeling of soaring as you go up in the air, literally. Clouds, set on blue skies, sunlight from the day, the blinding sunbeams, but there's still this kind of sadness bc ur leaving the airport from the ones u love, from all types of love-sense. The ocean sparkling below if ur lucky via route/timing whatever   The piano literally sounds like it's rolling. I still get fucking visions of fine china, and horses galloping across streams, making the water dance like droplets. water droplets imitating gemstones in the air mid-flight That opening line. both lines that start the choruses. The patience it has. How beautiful it all sounds, yet how it's never in your face.   I'm honestly gay, but this track reminds me, quality wise, of the love of how usually women/feminine guys do. and how it just envelops you, but leaves as it ends, leaving you fucking confused after you realized that you let it get away. This track's a beautiful ghost, it reminds you of the one who got away. I'm sure we've all at least had that feeling where we had to leave when we still didn't want to, or was left to getting confused until the slow burn reached u a day. that's what this song is. it's a fucking echo of someone's love that ran out bc someone couldn't appreciate it. There's nothing as standout about it, from pieces, nothing too showy, or shiny. but put it together, it's what or who you miss. and it fucks you up. it's like, it's like it calls on a different kind of subconscious or intuition foresight, even (?) to be appreciated properly.   The horns at the end signal that departure, it's probably the most obvious in your face aspect of the track imo. But it's still so beautifully, juxtaposedly soft. Don't get me wrong, The greatest is AMAZING. But it still relies on novelties from past culture, kinda like precious imagery scrapbooking, that yeah although still incredibly well done, diminishes it's identity from a meta kind of sense. It's incredibly more wholesome without a doubt, but it's overall quality still drips of a pop star, not the love goddess ya guys still aspire her to be.   We can argue how the tracks, and opinions of it are subjective, that's always true. But I honestly think the title track's a lot more transcendent, while The greatest is still talking about the doom of a failing world. The poignant piano's gorgeous, but still warns of doom and fatalism. Would u really like Lana to be better remembered as that, like I get the beauty and comfort of it, TG, but I honestly think NFR is a tier higher: narratively, and in sound.
The already fleeting character of the track, just leaves you wanting more of the paradise she painted, left, leaving you wondering where tf she went. It adds more to who she is, and although difficult, the respect, valuing of self-worth, and protection of leaving, and the mystique she carries. Especially as hard as it is when you don't want to, but have to. It just seems so much more like her too

yknow somethin, i've never properly read her poetry! i've seen a couple though and although i can't fully recall them, i do remember quite liking them.

love that kurt cobain clip!! and ironically enough, do kind of agree with what he's saying. i think there are songs where blunt and not overly-thought-out lyricism works well. i'll use nirvana as an example; the song 'sliver' is one of my all time fave songs, and lyrically it really speaks to me despite just being a simple and obvious tale about being a kid throwing a little bit of a tantrum because they're being dropped off at their grandparents' house and they're away from home. it's simple, it's blunt, it's honest and it works. if it was fancy and thought out, it wouldn't be the same. i feel that way about a lot of nirvana's music. it taps into a strange little place in my brain that just makes me feel really human and vulnerable. i think a lot of that is down to the simplistic and raw nature of the music

back to lana - there are plenty of her songs that shine with (and possibly because of) really simple and straightforward lyrics. video games is one of them! others like old money, oh say can you see, and cruel world do too. now that i think of it, it's an interesting idea to debate internally - the difference between lazy lyrics vs straightforward lyrics that may or may not work

i definitely have my problems with NFR, but i still love it. honestly i just had such a moment with FIILY and Venice Bitch - in fact, i can honestly say i've had a "moment" with every song on this album where they just really HIT ME in a particular way, even the songs i'm not massively keen on like TNBAR and California. moments where the song just speaks to me in a completely new and transcendent way. maybe it relates to the seasons changing, my emotions changing, the state of mind i'm in, i dunno. either way it's a wonderful feeling. the only song i haven't had a moment with yet is Love Song.
