with just several weeks to go until nov 5th, republicans are now attempting to change election laws in several states at the last minute in nebraska, the G.O.P are pushing to have their state's electoral vote law converted back to a "winner takes all" method, as opposed to it's current law where it awards electoral votes by congressional district. the state's second congressional district, which holds the city of omaha, has for the most part in the past, voted red with the rest of the state, but has historically voted blue twice in it's 30+ year history since the law was enacted in 1992, awarding an electoral vote to obama in 2008, and biden in 2020. the reason why republicans are trying to change this now is because current trends and polling suggests omaha is turning into a safe blue stronghold and will most definitely go blue again, giving harris the electoral vote in november. republicans want this law changed back to give trump the upper hand in case an outcome occurs where harris loses the swing states of NV, AZ, GA and NC but wins WI, MI, PA and NE's second district which would be an exact 270 electoral vote victory. if the law is changed and that outcome were to happen, not giving harris that extra electoral vote, would result in a 269 to 269 electoral tie leaving the fate of the election up to the supreme court which will create a shitfest of fuckery. meanwhile, in georgia, the (GOP operated) board of elections is voting to require ballots be hand counted in november. if this passes it would create significant delays to calling a winner on election night, giving republicans time to claim fraud and manipulate the results with recounts. research suggests hand counting is also significantly less accurate than other methods used and could open doors to vote counting fraud. if this change goes through, the same thing that happened to florida in the 2000 election could also happen to georgia where a winner wasn't called for weeks due to disputes over a close vote count and it being up to the supreme court to declare a winner. i won't be surprised if more states start pulling shit in the coming days/weeks
