Here’s the link to the Rolling Stone interview with Nikki Lane about Lana.

Regarding RCS, given the process of BUS, I don’t think Nikki really knows. She just is judging by the amount of material they wrote together and knows that’s about an album’s worth and that Lana wants to release it (but let’s be real Lana says that a lot). That’s my interpretation at least.

I personally think it’s very very likely RCS is going to be delayed

her and her team were probably not thinking COTCC was going to do as well as it did, in every interview Lana did she said how nervous she was for the album to come out

i think they’re going to wait at least six months for another album so everyone has time to digest Chemtrails and save up money for her next project. People said Chemtrails would do terrible because of the delay and obviously that wasn’t the case.

I think the poetry book will come sometime in summer or fall, and RCS will be out in 2022

I wonder if Lana’s interpretation of For Free differs from Joni’s in any way and if featuring other voices was purely a stylistic choice.

Lana singing the second verse (“velvet curtain calls”, “black limousine”) is the opposite of who she was in “White Dress”

I think Lana and Chuck are pressing flowers and using watercolors as the “painting” aspect

    (see Chuck’s latest story)

Worth mentioning again that Weyes Blood sounds eerily like Joni Mitchell at the end of For Free. I think Lana is making a very conscious choice to sonically give the album back to the community of women that COTCC is dedicated to.

I wonder if this album will contain any of the songs that Lana sang the lead for from her band sessions with the guys from The Last Shadow Puppets. Especially if Zach is producing, I wonder if there were any songs left over that she wanted to rework (like how California ended up on NFR with different verses from the demo and additional production from Jack).

Channeling Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell even more by dabbling into painting

i don't think melodrama necessarily sounds timeless or ahead of its time, it sounds straight out of summer 2017 but i'd consider it to be nostalgic not "aged"

Melodrama has that signature maximalist Jack Antonoff production when he was beginning to get that “producer of the year” aura. So sonically, it captures that year in pop music well.

This album is kind of intense all together, but I only like it in an album form. The songs especially melodically by themselves don’t stand out as much for me. Opposite of “sum greater than its parts” if that makes sense.

I agree that Melodrama aged quickly. It was excellent lyrically but production-wise I was not a fan. It almost sounded overproduced? Idk.

If Lana actually follows up with her initial RCS announcement, there could be a lot of lyrics involving thunder

“Thunder” the song, “I was a lightning rod”, MAC lyrics turned up a notch teas

The whole album is about the burden of fame, but this song is the only one that talks about her singing (in the street). This reminds me of the Rolling Stone interview she did with Elton John where she reminisced that there was a freedom starting out as a musician because it was fun, nobody really judged you.

In her Lizzy Grant, early BTD days, she leaned into the whole image of a tragic, Lolita/Marilyn Monroe type figure. Critics thought it was a persona, and the backlash was intense, perhaps in a white hot way. But her fixation with these women is tied to how she thought it was thrilling to be the object of the male gaze. I read “look how I do this/ look how I got this” as a subversion of the fragile female trope because she turns it into a performance that she controls.

Lana is older now. She probably looks back at these days wistfully, and maybe she still wishes she could tap into that although it’s no longer part of her current singer-songwriter “street cred.” Maybe that’s what QFTC was about, wishing she could reclaim a freedom of performance that was taken away from her.

But this song was like done in one take, so this could be an over analysis or projection
