i think what most people is missing here is that she's actually talking about the freedom of women to be able to talk about her experienced sexuality. not about black women. not about not being number 1. not about just being criticized while she was borning as a star. not about race. not about an artist in particular. she's talking about the constructs of our cultural ideas, feminism, the establishment and sexuality. i think she's bold questioning our culture. not much people do this. Lana is really different compared to all the women she mentioned, and that's what makes her upset: you need to say and be what the establishment wants you to be. not a sumbmisse woman speaking about being vulnerable and in love- but a "powerful" and "sexually free" woman, happy and strong, independent and untouchable. and i think THAT'S white feminism (or liberal feminism). she disrupts the discourse. as many of the women she mentioned did. but i think Lana is not asking to be part of that culture.

as she recently said: "if this is it, I'm signin' off". she's simply pointing out the HYPOCRISY of it. our culture is not diverse. it is structured by fashion and the establishment.

There are a lot of good points raised here that give me a different perspective to it. Do I think that she should be gagged from speaking her opinion because she is in a privileged position? No. Is it very tone deaf? Yes. Is she attacking these artists? No, I don't think she. She is criticising the misogynistic systems and cultural landscape that has only now let women find success and be heard not vilified for expressing their feelings and experiences where they don't have to sit on the fence of shrink themselves to be perceived in a way that is palatable.

I think there are a million ways to cut this and unfortunately most of them will place Lana in a bad light because there are so many points that touch on race and privilege and people are just done with celebrities having an opinion on anything currently.

I really should be going back into hiding now, but I wanted to note on this real quick bc I've been wanting to make a big post about this for awhile, but didn't know if it would be too personal/intrusive to do so.
I think Lana started attending AA again in 2018/2019 and I think that's where she actually met her new group of girl friends.
I first started thinking this because many of her new girl friends in her little squad have made posts on their instagrams regarding their "sober birthdays" and congratulating their friends for their sober milestones as well. I have a few screenshots of these instances, but again, held off on posting anything because I wasn't sure if it was something that should be talked about on here.
Anyway, I think she met these girls from her meetings, and that Candace is probably her sponsor. (The older woman who Lana has posted having phone conversations with.)
Furthermore, in her leaked Pitchfork 2017 interview, the interviewer made a reference to Alcoholics Anonymous in which Lana said she had "no comment." Lana also said she had "no comment" when the interviewer asked if she still drank.
Also, a friend had told me that one of her friend's uber drivers mentioned meeting Lana in an AA. There's also a few tweets on twitter that talk about meeting Lana at AA. Of course that's all just hearsay.. and all of this is just my pure personal speculation, but it sort of adds up, especially with this book post.
I know people have some negative opinions of her new lil girl gang, but I think they've been a positive influence on her, especially if she met them where I'm thinking she did. Good for Lana for continuing to always better herself and surrounding herself with people who have her best interest at heart. Always proud of her.
    Anyway, ttfn x

You need to speak to a therapist. You can't just put that all on Lana. Seriously? Lana saying something you don't like and you saying it's a real punch to your self esteem isn't healthy.

For the record, I see a therapist every 3 weeks, so just saying. It's not meant as a diss.

Lana didn't drag anyone. Immediately, a few oversensitive millennials ranting about race.

I dont think Lana feels like she has a place in modern Feminism which is why she never cared for it. Modern feminism is focused on destroying the image of the “submissive” woman. I believe all types of women should be celebrated. If you wanna be a stay at home mom or go out and make your own company, you do you. But don’t shame other women just because their feminism doesn’t look the same as yours on the surface. She also mentioned in her post, women who get their voices taken away from them by stronger women. Shes probably just been judged so much for who she truly is so she doesnt feel apart of it.

Personally, I think if society thinks lana is moving us backwards by speaking her truth as a woman who happens to be submissive and is maybe okay with taking on a more passive role in relationships, then I think the problem lies with society. Only celebrating strong empowered women in the media sounds like bottled marketed feminism to me.

Women should be able to be as dominant or as submissive as they want. That’s my take on Lana re: feminism, I always found it confusing that she doesn’t identify with the movement when feminism is all about embracing all kinds of women, and celebrating their differences and similarities. She’s obviously preaching for a whole genre of women that are like her and are put down for feeling too much, being passive, etc. I think that’s pretty feminist of her imo.

who knows maybe Lanas going through something personal and feels jealous of other women? It happens to all of us ... shes obvioulsy still upset she didnt win a grammy

she seems more upset with critics than the artists tho

She's clearly saying "I was shamed for this in the past - maybe culture's moved far enough through these other artists that I can do what I've always done, and not be shamed for it anymore." Unfortunately we live in a world where people get clicks and cash by misunderstanding people's obvious intentions ...

Love her message, love her biting back at the media, love her making art and releasing it, love her fire coming out again.

But the way she phrased her post makes it too easy to misinterpret her.

To me, she’s asking if now that it’s normal and celebrated to make songs about sex, being sexual, taking agency over your body, etc, if she can go back to writing about more raunchier topics without being dragged by the critics. She is not saying women should be judged for writing about those things, she is just pointing out how her lyrics get put down as non feminist just because she’s being more submissive to men in her sexual scenarios, as opposed to being more dominant and in power. She’s wondering if feminism has a space for women like her, who love hard and fall hard and will do anything for her man.

She’s not dragging other women, She just wants the freedom to sing about what she wants without being seen as weak or like someone who is against women’s rights.

Wish she would have phrased it better but what can you do. She’s never been the best at explaining herself, i think that’s why she makes such good art. It’s the only way she knows how to get her words across.

No she didnt... if you find it that she scrutinized them its because your brain puts a negative connotation on singing about fucking, cheating, etc. theres nothing wrong with singing about it. She was pointing out how other women get celebrated for singing about things like that but when it comes to her on abusive relationships she gets shit for it. Both are women singing about their truths, ugly or pretty. So why does Lana get shit for it lol. Lana adores Ariana btw. Another reason i rly dont think she is trying to drag anyone. Her frustrations are for the media and critics, the audience. NOT THE ARTISTS

People refuse to understand her point of view. All they see is a grown woman dragging other female artists and being petty cause she doesn't have a number 1 hit. So dumb.
  22. cherrysadwine liked a post in a topic by VeniceBambi in Instagram Updates
... girl what does race have to do with any of this. Her point was that all women should be able to make music about whatever they want without being scrutinized for it. Imagine if she only mentioned white women with #1s. that probably would’ve upset you too smh. She mentioned black women because those black women are TOP stars. Shouldnt you be happy about that?? Shes mentioning successful women. Its NOT a race thing. Smh smh smh
