ditto the BBC pride & prejudice. also: far from the madding crowd, vanity fair (reese witherspoon one), lost in austen, imagine me & you (one of my all time fav romcoms).

honestly nothing could save this song for me- in and of itself it’s not the worst thing ever but imo is SO bland melody-wise (I could imagine almost anyone singing it, a rarity in Lana’s discography where most songs sound like something only Lana could’ve dreamed up).

What I can say about NFR at this point is:

The fact that this album still literally moves the sea, the winds, the oceanic salty air, the seaside apartment complex, the whole "Long Beach" atmosphere, the whole surf culture lifestyle, etc to where i'm living now everytime i play it is so madly surreal.

Like, I feel like I'm breathing California air despite being depressed in my room all day long. It's like Lana does have wirchcraft for real, its crazy.

This is probably my first time listening back since the release and the first thing that comes to mind is that Wild One would've been a perfect fit on the album. It's one of the songs that I feel like the tracklist needed at some point

Either way this album is growing on me quite a bit; I thought it was one of her most weakest efforts at first.

the picasso line in beautiful is one of her worst lyrics

i def agree with your analysis here, but i think a strong case can also be made for BB (song) as the album's mission statement, as it grapples so much with lana contemplating her own legacy and agency as a woman and artist. it also highlights the importance of her move towards centering friendships as a major source of her inspiration and intimacy rather than solely the men in her life (as many pre-NFR albums seemed to suggest). but as her variety speech showed, WFWF was obvs a hugely important song for her to write and ushered in a new era of her writing about her life laid bare.

i def think the TB, BB, and WFWF made a lot of sense to release early together bc as a trinity they really announce the themes of the album with exacting precision.

love BB but would still really appreciate one single comprehensive interview about this album bc i still don't quite "get" the story of the album re including older songs.

i love the older songs, glad they're on the record, think it all makes sense sonically, but storytelling-wise i have a hard time following the "what it was like then/what it's like now" plot that she described on IG awhile ago (esp bc its not like the older songs come first and lead into the newer ones or vice versa). and just generally would be so interested to hear more about how she puts together her albums, chooses songs etc! her mind truly is eccentric af and i love hearing artists discuss their process– and the process for putting BB together must have been so interesting!
