Would you guys consider "West Coast" to be surf noir?

  3. I haven't felt this genuinely uncomfortable looking at "art" since watching Requiem for a Dream. The raw anguish on her face made my stomach churn a little - which was likely the response they were going for with most people. I am a little calmer about it now that I've read some of the responses here because I feel like I understand more of what she was trying to do but I haven't sorted through all of my feelings on this yet. I don't have any desire to see the clip though, it just looks like too much for me.

Immortal Maybe she'll give up on this one fruit a month thing and give us the album early. Okay that was selfish of me to say. I actually kind of wish this hadn't happened. She was so inspired and enthusiastic, I don't want her to get discouraged and it really is kind of wrong.
  6. Her Ride/iTunes Festival 2012 hair is the best. Short blonde like from the AKA cover would be next. Then SS hair. I liked the color from the BTD photoshoot but the way it was curled wasn't my favorite. The only time I hate her hair is when she parts it down the middle (especially in Tropico when she has on that blue shirt and long socks) ), with the only exception being that one concert where that gif of her dancing in the off-shoulder white shirt came from.
  7. Hope Sandoval - Not really for a duet, but if they wrote and produced a track and Lana sang I'd probably die. Blake - because Flipside Alex Turner (lead singer of Arctic Monkeys) - his voice is amazing and he's a good writer. If they turned Do I Wanna Know into a sexy duet..
  8. Born to Die (my first exposure to her so maybe slightly biased) Summertime Sadness National Anthem Ultraviolence Album Trailer (not a video technically but it was still awesome) Blue Jeans (original) Summer Wine Shades of Cool Video Games Tropico West Coast Ultraviolence Ride Young and Beautiful Blue Jeans Blue Velvet Chelsea Hotel No 2 Bel Air Burning Desire Carmen I think that's all of the released ones.

About sums up the new album to me. Maybe I should give it a full listen all the way through before I totally give up. The lyrics of the last song are painfully cheesy/bad and I'm not fulling believing that is really the legacy they wanted to leave. Oh well, their older albums will still be some of my all-time favorites and I'll always have them so I'm not terribly disappointed.
  12. This is absolutely my favorite live performance by her. I don't know much about technique with singing, something about this has stood out to me since I heard it shortly after finding her. I love the rawness of it. I used to have an mp3 of it that I'd listen to on my phone. I think her voice is so beautiful here. Obviously this was amazing. Her voice and face.. this was so emotional on top of being well done. I love this because 1) I love OTTR and 2) she just looked like she was having so much fun. She doesn't look nearly as happy these days or into the songs as she does here. She connects with the fans well too. Finally, Cola when she came to Atlanta in May. Why? It was the first time I saw her with my own eyes and I almost cried. Still one of the most memorable nights from this year.

I loved that article SO much; I almost started crying while reading it. It's just amazing to watch an artist grow in their music and and as a person, and what she had to say just really hit a place in me. I'm very excited for the album now! I didn't care much for the video but it was pretty in line for a Marina video so I wasn't that upset. I expected more colors and looks from the single cover but oh well. I'm mostly disappointed that she cut literally the best/my favorite parts of the song from it. But like someone else said, she was beautiful and you can really tell she is happy!
  14. Where has this video been my whole life..? Oddly enough, despite being a huge Lana fan, I completely missed Paradise being released. It was a "oh look, new songs" kind of thing for me. In my defense, I was in my first semester of college and was more focused on exploring the new world out there while being completely on my own for the first time in my life. Anyways.. I outright hated Paradise when I finally found it. I was sheltered so songs like Cola, Gods & Monsters, and Body Electric were weird and vulgar to me. I thought Ride, Blue Velvet, and Bel Air were the only things that were good. I was in love with Ride. I only bought the CD just to have a copy of it because I was obsessed with Lana in general. Only in the past 6 months or so have I really warmed up to those songs, but now I can confidently say Paradise is my favorite thing Lana has done and the songs I used to hate are my favorites while I think Ride is cliche and Blue Velvet is a little boring. and I despise American. My favorite from Paradise is Cola for sure. I love everything about Paradise from the theme to the cover photo and I hope so badly she revisits that theme in a future album.
  15. You understand Anything Mazzy Star would be amazing. I am still failing to see how this is different from the other thread about covers though.

  17. I don't think it would be as terrible as some make it out to be but I also just don't think it would ever happen. Marina opening for Lana though..
  18. Lana every time of the year, for all occasions. I'd be game.

    Pink Floyd

Yeah its weird, I listen to Lana a whole lot more, so maybe it isn't fair to say I like them more. But I connect more with their lyrics and they just have this presence that is ethereal. I also like quality guitar solos and I don't mind lots of instrumentals which they frequently have. And the way their albums flow is amazing, especially DSOTM/WYWH with the transitions. I tend to like listening to PF an album at a time, so yeah its a time and emotional commitment to listen to them haha. Shine On You Crazy Diamonds is actually my favorite song by them too! The guitar part right before he starts singing the second time is my favorite piece of music period. Its so chaotic but beautiful. I'm also very fond of Brain Damage/Eclipse from DSOTM, so well written. Animals is pretty awesome too, and the storyline of the Wall is just phenomenal and so well done. I actually have high hopes for the new album! Its supposedly almost exclusively instrumental though, with just one song at the end. I don't know how that will turn out and I'm a little worried since Roger Waters isn't a part of it, but David Gilmour does well so I don't think it'll be a huge disappointment. The cover for it looks pretty awesome (though maybe a little to similar to Life of Pi imagery) The only bad part about being a hardcore PF fan is that I have unrealistically high standards for other musicians haha.
  20. I want FMUTTT. I have no idea what it would even be like which is part of the appeal I'm sure it'll be BrB or PWYC though, and I'll still be happy.
  21. Marina & The Diamonds - Froot ?? Pink Floyd - Endless River November 10th (!) And that's it. I don't keep up with too many artists :/

    Pink Floyd

Yay, so glad to see this is a thread! We are only like a week or two from the new album! So excited! I think its going to be awesome based on the snippets tbh. I adore David Gilmour on guitar. Please if you haven't heard them go listen to "Time" as well as these: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NavVfpp-1L4 I'd confidently say they are one of the best bands to have ever existed, and Time is the literally best song ever wrote imo. "Wish You Were Here" is my favorite album period, even tops Lanas.
  23. I think Ultraviolence has more emotion than Pretty When You Cry. I feel like PWYC is just good vocal technique as she has that same tone in her voice the entire song, which makes it more intentional than raw. UV, on the other hand, just has this darkness over it and there are times when her voice breaks or a certain tone comes over it that sounds involuntary - which in my opinion sounds more authentic. Not to mention UV is wrote about her elusive lover of the past and PWYC is really just a song built around a comment an old boyfriend told her. I made sure to listen to them back to back before I made this assessment.
