http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lana-Del-Rey-Ultraviolence-1-Track-CD-Promo-Single-Sticker-/321521504564?pt=UK_CDsDVDs_CDs_CDs_GL&hash=item4adc2cd134 Hey y'all, was just wondering the validity of this and, if its real, it should be added here. Also, how do you guys know what is real and what's not? I'd love to know how to identify legit things so I don't constantly have to ask. EDIT: Okay, even to my untrained eyes I think I can tell this is fake. I would still like to know the answer to my second question though. Is there like an official directory of released things?

I agree that listening to her music is like hearing a story. Sometimes I like to pretend I'm the person in the story, because I had a pretty quiet life when I was in high school so its fun to imagine getting in to trouble and all that (not that I would change how my real life turned out - I like being good). I don't relate to the dependent relationships she talks about or the drugs. Some certain lines of her love songs I can relate to. I adore most of the music videos from the BTD era as well and I love making my own up in my head for her songs or for other peoples' songs but with her in them. I particularly liked the UV album trailer and I'm sad the rest of the era doesn't have that same west-coasty super surf vibe to it. I do relate a lot to how she presents herself as a celebrity. I'd love to be a singer, and I imagine if I became one I'd be pretty similar to her - being real reserved on stage, always meeting with fans, etc. Even down to the dresses she wears; it all seems like something I'd do if I were a celebrity. But I'm not and at the moment I don't plan on pursing it, so I'm content with dreaming. Finally, I totally get the feeling of missing out on something that was never really there to begin with. I also understand her when she says feminism is boring (not that it isn't important) and she'd rather learn about space or whatever. I get how she's obsessed with death and paradise and what comes after - the undertones of religion that run throughout her songs really, really stand out to me and are my favorite parts of her music.

Minor General Questions that Don't Deserve Their Own Thread
Anthem replied to Monicker's topic in Lana Thoughts
Do we have this image in HD or any version where you can't see the crease in the middle? Also, where did it even come from? I've noticed people use similar images for her instrumentals, like below. EDIT: I actually found my answer literally 2 minutes after posting this. For anyone else who is curious, its a painting called "Terrestrial Paradise". -
I've heard approximately 30 seconds of this album and I'm already sold

Thanks to this lovely page I have a beautiful West Coast single CD coming to me and I can rest knowing its real, yay. I was going to ask if this should be updated with the release of Ultraviolence as a single? Even though there doesn't appear to be physical copies of it, I think its important just to note that so new people in the future who use this as the bible for their collection (like me ) know to stay away from any unofficial fan-made stuff because there is SO much out there. This guide has helped me so much with sorting through what's real and fake and I'd love for it to be as complete and current as possible to help others..

I don't really think she would have done well in a band (personally, not successfully). I think there's a reason it didn't work out for her before and she stopped trying, especially by the way Dan described working with her - that she had to be in complete control all of the time during the artistic process. I think she gets visions for how she wants things to be and if her hypothetical bandmates didn't agree or see her vision the way she did, she'd get frustrated and feel criticized (her ego is kind of fragile). She's just too independent and her music is too personal for her to tolerate anyone trying to tamper with it. I mean, could you image what would happen if she tried to make something like Tropico while being in a band? the Born to Die music video (any of her videos really)? If the bandmates have no say in the process then why would it be different than it is now since she said she still plays with the same paid musicians that she has from the start (at least live)? She *did* collab with Blake on Flipside, Cruel World, and PWYC, so it could be possible. Obviously it would be great, too, since those songs were all amazing. But I still feel like, even though she did collab with him, it was still all about her and her vision and he just happened to produce something she deemed worthy. It still took years of him playing for her before she let him have those small influences on her album. I agree that it would have helped her emotionally to have other people to take some of the focus off of her, but I think as her band would have amassed fame the attention would have turned to her anyways because of her personality, how intriguing she is, and the crazy things she says in interviews. It'd be toned down some though obviously. However, I think she values her artistic independence over having a few people to deal with the emotional stress because she can get that from other outlets and her connection with the music is what its all about to her. I do think it would help her stay inspired and creative to be around other people, because they would have ideas of their own that she could work with and they'd maybe draw her out of singing about the same thing over and over. She's just too independent for it though in reality. IF she could have made it work, then yeah I think she'd be just as successful in terms of quality of music. I don't know if she'd be as famous. I think her band would have a cult following but not just her by herself though she'd be the central focus (but honestly that's typical of most singers in bands these days).

Official 2nd Single - Ultraviolence (Release August 18th)
Anthem replied to naachoboy's topic in New Releases
Aw so there's no real hope for one in the future? That really sucks because I love collecting these things. Oh well, I guess I can make my own but its not the same. What is even the official cover art for UV as a single? Is it the same as when it was just a promo single? -
Official 2nd Single - Ultraviolence (Release August 18th)
Anthem replied to naachoboy's topic in New Releases
I was specifically hoping that this meant that we'd get some kind of physical single, like a CD or picture vinyl (or both!). Would August 18th had been the time for that, or is there still a possibility that they could release some in the future? I've never really known about the process of releasing singles until the UV era so I don't really know how some of these things work. -
That's fair enough. My point was more that her fanbase is almost exclusively teens and she will have to reach out to a broader range of people to be iconic. See, I think this will be what makes her iconic. She will be iconic for doing things her own way and still appealing to the masses. She doesn't need the radio (in fact, I think her not being in people's faces constant is really appealing in general and keeps her fresh when people do hear her name) or to conform to her producers to reign people in. She's getting it off talent alone.
-
Except s/he doesn't, especially with the first bit. If Lana quit music today no one would remember her or care in a few years time. Her fanbase is largely made up of teen aged kids who just follow whatever is popular and as soon as that's not Lana they'll move on to someone else they think is "new" and "unique". She needs more time making music and being recognized by a critical and mature crowd for it to really be long standing and iconic. I think she needs more good-quality albums out as well to prove that she has staying power. With that said, I think she has every bit of potential to become an icon. I think she's been pretty influential in terms of style so far and she's been getting noticed by more famous people (Angelina Jolie handpicked her for OUAD, Kardashian wedding, TS copying a video, etc.). I think if she keeps moving forward with quality music and maintains her mainstream-but-not status, she'll be an icon with time. An icon of what? Its hard to tell.

Awesome, I won't even have to miss school for it! I really hope I can go!
-
Double post. BTD was my least favorite era aesthetically.
-
I wish she'd do both age-restricted and not but I guess since that would mean she has to do 2+ concerts at each place then it won't happen. She doesn't like touring already and that kind of makes her concerts a commodity which makes the tickets sell better, she keeps her aura of mystery, etc. I think it would be so interesting to see exactly what crowd she would bring at a 21+ since its such a small fraction of her fanbase. I also agree on DMD being often overlooked, but only with the demo production. I get such a quiet-night-in-the-big-city vibe, like she and the man are cursing through the streets at night or up in a penthouse overlooking the city, very luxurious kind of setting. There's so much going on in the album version that I don't even get a mental image for the song because my brain is overprocessing and that is probably the only Lana song that happens to me with. I don't know if I'd say her quitting smoking is unpopular. Or that, despite wanting her to quit, she does look like a complete irresponsible badass when she does the smoking thing at the gas station in Ride. To be on topic, here's another of my unpopular opinions: I don't know if its the flow of the song, melody, or what, but I just can not get into Black Beauty at all. I objectively recognize it is lyrically beautiful, but something about it is just off to me. I never get the urge to hear it and skip it half of the time. It just doesn't stand out at all and I'm genuinely sad about it.

166.) Its nice to love and be loved but its better to know what God knows.

158.) Life is beautiful, but we don't have a clue.

I'd be happy with any BTD/Paradise/UV outtake since they'd probably be in nice quality. I'm particularly interested in UV outtakes because I love the direction she was going with AFFA/Hollywood/BB/etc. I assume she had other songs that were similar to those but scrapped them when she wrote new songs for UV and the music began to move in a different direction. I also would really love UV demos for the songs that were released. I must know if the intro she did at concerts was ever a part of Cruel World. So maybe: Cruel World (Demo) Roses (because why not) Trans Am

Is "Beyoncé" just a big rip-off of Lana Del Rey?
Anthem replied to evilentity's topic in Lana Thoughts
I know this thread is supposedly for a joke but I was wondering how you guys felt about this video in relation to the topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WebQaN7Lbs I mean its basically Beyonce doing the National Anthem intro with a different song. Like the images of the man smoking in the dark and everything are identical. Not to mention that Nancy Sinatra is one of Lana's heaviest inspirations and Bang Bang is most famously sang by her. I don't know guys -
This is true! I adored all of the dresses she wore on tour. I'm a sucker for the lacey white stuff. She had some really great photo shoots done back then too. I particularly love these:
-
I really badly need this dress if anyone knows where to find it! Edit: How could I forget?! I would die if someone found where she got the dress she wore when she performed in Atlanta. I saw it in person and it was so beautiful! It made me so jealous of her legs. Even one that looks similar and isn't exact would be nice. Unfortunately I am like 99% sure that both of these dresses were found in little hole-in-the-wall places and there are no real other ones like it for sale. I'm trying to be faithful. I feel like Lana and I have similar tastes in clothes except I'm too broke to buy most of the things I want.
-
I think Lana looked the prettiest with her bright blonde shoulder-length hair, like on the cover of AKA.
-
151.) Her boyfriend's pretty cool, but not as cool as her. 152.) Down on the west coast, they got a saying; "if you're not drinking, then you're not playing". 153.) She's sleeping with your best friend. 154.) She plans on using her face to pay, honey.
-
I get this way! I feel like some of it comes from the single/album art and videos though, since I associate those with the songs. I also think this is partly by design from Lana because I remember reading before that she really likes to create a visual picture with her songs. And if she mentions a color just once in the song I automatically associate it or if she talks about an item I think about whatever color that would be too. Its one of the great things about Lana songs really because I get such good visuals in my head. I literally have my own music video in my head for all of her songs because they are so descriptive. Some of the ones I get colors from that don't have covers or a lot of sensory words: FMUTT - pale lavender Flipside - orange, but only a tiny bit, and blue, but not in a tacky way. I don't know. Florida Kilos - green and blue Gramma - dark green Radio - medium blue American - very pale blue Bel Air - white/pale blue Raise Me Up - dark green, black, dark blue Hollywood - colors of the sunset, so golds, yellows (but then again she does say sunrise) * Ultraviolence - same pale lavender as FMUTT, which is odd because the songs are kind of linked. I know I said I wouldn't do ones with videos (don't count Bel-Air) but I got this color from the song way before the video and still do even after one has been released.
-
I want this as well! I actually really prefer gapless albums because if its done right the flow makes for an amazing album experience. I love Pink Floyd for this reason and I'm actually a lot more excited than I should be that there is a Lana album like this. I don't know where I got my AKA songs from, but none of them show any signs of this so I had no idea.
-
Yes! You understand! If it had been done like this Paradise would be literally perfect (and swapping for AKA Yayo). Oh and to clarify, the reason I brought it up in the first place is because I wanted them to be on there AND be singles. I still want them, but I don't really see it happening because I think she is moving a different direction musically and they just wouldn't fit (and they certainly would have with the Paradise theme). I have a fan-made single cover from when she was filming Tropico (with the blue shirt and high socks, etc.) that would have worked for the single art for AFFA. And honestly, had she done those two songs, especially AFFA for the end, I think it would have been a good transition into the west-coast-based UV era. Like I always imagine the video for AFFA would be people riding motorcycles through the desert heading out west to start a new life (aka starting UV era). So yeah I guess I change my answer to AFFA/Hollywood. Mainly because I want these songs live and to have a chance at getting videos for them.
-
As a side note, since its being brought up so much, Hollywood and AFFA should have been on Paradise (though I realize they were written afterwards). They fit too beautifully. Hollywood in place of American and AFFA at the end. But I put this in another thread that's more relevant. Back to the topic, I'm thinking Television Heaven actually. I think the instrumental should be tweaked around some to sound more finished. Actually I don't care, I just want to open up the possibility of her singing it live one day.
