This! I hope not. I'm gonna die if the chorus is something like:
"Listening to music to watch boys to
    Music to watch boys to
    Music to watch boys to
    Dark blue"

She has songs called "I Can Fly", "Fucked My Way Up To The Top" and "Diet Mountain Dew".
Two of her best songs are called "Blue Jeans" and "Video Games".
People want ongs to be released because they are called "Fine China", "Trans Am" or "Roses".
So why the hell would you judge songs by their names?

Thank God I thought I was the only one not being able to see how 1989 was 'copying' Lana besides Wildest Dreams. (Now that I think of it, I'd find it oddly entertaining seeing Lana perform songs like Shake It Off and All You Had To Was Stay all positive and happy and jumping around the stage, it'd be the best thing to be honest )

what's your damage heather? why are you trying to discredit her by saying she's "only mildly relevant on the internet" just because she's not your cup of tea? her stuff is incredibly innovative, not to mention she's totally changed the game by being a solo female artist who has (hundreds of times) gone on stage completely alone. she worked her way up from absolutely nothing - completely writes her own stuff, does her own artwork, directs her own videos... don't reduce her to some internet fad that will fizzle out in a few years when she's been extremely successful, developed a huge following & produced tons of great songs. her making it onto a lana del rey tour is a testament to that.

I disagree, I like it as you because it sounds like the guy is telling her that; he's saying 'you're pretty when you cry', which she reiterates throughout the song itself as 'i'm pretty when i cry' in a sort of warped sense. If the title had been I, it would've seemed as if Lana had come up with this validation herself. By saying you, it makes it seem that the guy has warped Lana's sense of judgement to make her think that she is most attractive when she is upset - it's essentially an excuse for the guy's negligence of Lana and his use of narcotics.

Basically, 'Pretty When I Cry' is the twisted self from the Born to Die era. 'Pretty When You Cry' is the self that has been twisted through drugs and others; this is the Ultraviolence era.

    You're on tour,
    You're playing UNRELEASED tracks,
You have RELEASED the lyrics to the TITLE TRACK OF THE NEW ALBUM,

My nightmare is that HM will be a regression of Lana's sound. I will be disappointed if HM turns out to be BTD 2.0. All artists need to keep moving and developing their sound.

Auerbach not being on it has pretty much destroyed my dreams for sick guitar solos.

i understand your point, but I also think UV did well because it was THE follow-up to the hit BTD/P. If Lana doesn't make an effort to promote HM, I fear that album sales will deteriorate significantly. It really is important that she makes an effort for HM.

Even though Lana might have pissed Interscope off before and after releasing UV, her indifference actually ended up ultimately benefiting them so I don't think they would drop her that easily. It takes a LOT of money to promote an artist and a single, and even without Interscope spending a ton of money trying to make UV successful, it still had sales that could compete with some of the most promoted artists out there. Ariana Grande was one of the most heavily promoted artists of 2014 with a bunch of successful singles, and her album has sold basically the same amount that UV has worldwide. UV's debut sales even managed to be bigger, despite no successful single. Lana's selling out venues that only huge artists can sell out. Most acts out there are playing at venues of around 5K people and are lucky if they can fill out a 10K+ venue, much less the 20K+ places Lana's performing at now.

She might be a frustrating act, but I think it would be really hard for Interscope to drop her when she's making them as much as or more money than a lot of the artists they spend a ton of money promoting.

Ok, I just....Ok,...lemme try one more time. Of course it is not important to you in terms of your own pleasure. When the music sucks, it sucks. Promo doesn't make it better. Nobody is denying it.
However, when the music is great, you would want to hear more music from this artist in the future that is on the same level, right? Therefor this music needs exposure, so that further releases don't fall short, because it needs to sell well.
Besides, you would certainly enjoy this artist performing these songs live, because you love the music and you get excited seeing it performed, right? There is just a positive feeling seeing your fave on the screen singing. Or playerd on the radio when you drive to your workplace? You'd also love to see great visuals that the song deserves because it's sad when the visuals of a great song suck, right? Because it doesn't do it justice. And guess what, great visuals need money. It also isn't a bad thing to see other people reacting in a positive way towards it, because we are human after all. We love being part of something that gets recieved well and to say to ourselves: ha, ma girl. i was rooting for her from the start.

We shall all root for Lana and hope to see as much as possible from her, cause she is our favourite artist.

Because if we don't, I haven't seen a stranger fanbase than this one. Not wanting to see their fave often, performing, being liked and do commercially well as a reward for the hard work they put into the work.

I think we need to remember that Lana apparently was sick during the UV era. It's possible that she would've done more promo if she hadn't been sick. Also I think she used UV as way of coping with her depression and stuff and that might explain why she moved away from it so quickly.

Anyways I really hope she'll do more promo this era, I don't expect her to do Taylor Swift level promotion, but the promotion she did during the Paradise era was enough for me. A few radio- and television performances and interviews and some really great music videos is all I'm asking for. If people don't think being a Lana fan was more exciting during the BTD/paradise era they are lying!

And the people who are calling television performances 'whoring out' need to stop. Even Tom Waits did television- and radio performances for his last album! If you want people to buy your album you need to do promo, simple as that.

That being said I have trust in Lana. She seems happier than I've seen her for a long time and this tour have been amazing so far! She's never done a bad album and I'm sure HM will be great too! Don't Le Me Be Misunderstood is one of my favorite songs of all time and I think that MTWBT sounds like a really interesting concept! I think that Life Is Beautiful sounds really beautiful and I hope it'll be on the album since it fits the theme of the HM lyrics. I'm also really excited for Mark Ronson as a producer.

Here's the January 2012 BBC article saying "Her left hand is tattooed with a capital letter 'M' for her grandmother, Madeleine [sic]".

But in a status update today, @ flagged this 2011 i-D Magazine interview where she said the 'M' stood for "Magic, 'cos I need it [laughs]".

I've always been skeptical of the grandmother explanation from day one. It always struck me as the kind of post hoc explanation someone might concoct for a tattoo they regret or for which they're embarrassed about the real original inspiration. That "Gramma" may be about her other grandmother and she once claimed it stood for "Magic" do nothing to lessen my skepticism that we're getting the real story here.

Like the OP, my pet theory had long been that it stood for Mike Mizrahi. Until I saw this:

This was briefly the avatar for the YouTube account that originally posted "Let My Hair Down". (Receipts here and here. Note: Alex DeLarge is not my real name.) This account apparently belongs to Adam Tagliamonte, a.k.a "Tags", from Lizzy Grant and the Phenomena. This suggests the stylized 'M' symbol may predate her relationship with Mizrahi. Unfortunately, Tags was not that helpful when I asked him some questions, including about the symbol's significance. Supposedly, those recording sessions that leaked back in January came from Tags. If whoever got those from him hasn't burned their bridges with him in the course of them leaking it'd be cool if they could try to ask him about this. Until then the magic 'M' remains a mystery...

How is performing in front of a few cameras "whoting out"?
  23. luminom liked a post in a topic by theeternalstars in Honeymoon - Pre-Release and Discussion Thread
pasted from the Unpopular Lana Opinions thread:

A lot of people seem to believe that Lana is as famous/iconic as people like Sinatra and Bob Dylan and that she doesn't need to do promo because "she doesn't need hits and only writes for herself". I've seen lots of people say that they were happy Lana didn't do any TV appearances because she isn't a "commercial artist". Whilst it is important that Lana stays true to herself, good promo is so important in this day and age. I don't understand why some fans seemingly don't want her to gain wider recognition and greater success - which can only be done if you actually try to do promo. Sales, whether you like it or not, are important and Lana needs to do proper promo and proper music videos in order to maintain interest. Lots of people I know didn't even know she released Ultraviolence, and just remember her as that weird anti-feminist woman who sang like shit on SNL and had a remix. In order to stay relevant, she needs to promote her music. Promoting her music properly isn't "selling out" or being 'commercialised".

I think UV promo was lazy and simply not good enough. Many say that she only needs her fans, but if you release an album without live TV performances, do interviews where you make quasi-suicidal and controversial comments and seem distant and passive-aggressive, fail to promote the critically acclaimed lead single and release a few average music videos - you begin to lose fans.

Honeymoon is such an important album for Lana's career. If she fails to promote this album, she may begin to lose her relevance and appeal.
