  1. I couldn’t resist checking back in even though my phone is going to die on my trip home, and what a nice surprise :)

thank you so much for everyone who voted for me—I’m surprised I got nominated in general, and being@plastiscguy runner-up??? An honor!!!

@plastiscguy , you seriously deserve the award, and I’m so happy you got it. Your edits are legendary, and I won’t lie: there are a few unnamed songs you revisited I like just as much (if not more) than the originals:oopna: your mind!!

@lanadelrey your album covers are so, so special—arguably my favorites if I do say so myself.

Actually, we should just assume everyone is Lana so maybe everyone stops saying mean things about her (and Jack) :mj2:

no but genuinely if I were Lana reading certain things in the TUOB thread (and others, really) I would need time to mentally recuperate:eek3:

Also related to this thread, for anyone that was present for past pre-releases, how would you compare the level of unhinged-ness here to past pre-release threads? I can’t tell if I’m biased and forgetting LFL->BB’s chaos or if it’s actually more feral presently lol

I’m still confused how  BoZ says she barely opens her lips and Kintsugi says she ‘sings her heart out’ because that isn’t difference in tastes both are describing the song completely differently.  Which is it?

I was wondering this as well!

The only thing I can picture is something like a White Dress situation: some people found it to be unintelligible whispering, whereas others (like myself:brows:) found it to be one of her most emotive and moving works to date.

I do agree, though, that these descriptions seem pretty incongruous even if one person likes/dislikes the song. I suppose we’ll find out!

I think that the album could get a 84-85 on metacritic even tho insiders’ description let me think of 88-90 idk, maybe we should ask kintsuji what he thinks since we already have Boz’s opinion

I believe Kintsugi was already asked, and they said something along the lines of it’s tough to predict how it will be received because it’s “not exactly cohesive” (I think that was the wording) while still praising the record!

do we think Ocean Blvd will get a higher score on metacritic than NFR:usrs:

I hope so, but I’m doubtful—NFR is one of those albums with has equipped critics with unusually high (and rather specific) expectations. I can see it coming in second, though!

That being said, as @Fingertips mentioned, I do think many fans (myself included, hopefully:brows:) will enjoy this record more.

BoZ suggested that the album will do well in terms of critical acclaim despite him essentially viewing it as a 100/100, but he also stated Margaret and the interludes (iirc) might bring the score down. Then again, that’s just one person’s opinion, and BoZ’s issue with Margaret was merely Jack’s voice, so who knows. I can’t wait to see!

I'm curious if the samples are gonna sound just like they're in the original versions or if they're interpolated & mixed with additional instruments. We never asked the insiders about this. 👀

Kintsugi implied that (at least some of) the samples won’t simply be overlaid with Lana’s vocals—if I remember correctly, they said something along with lines of them not being as “obvious” as we expect!

I really do hope the second half of the AK song gets included. The atmosphere is really nice and would suit reverb-heavy vocals in my opinion:icant:

  7. I can’t wait until we hear this record in its entirety to get a good grasp on the overall mood she’s trying to convey!

Insiders seem to have given mixed messages about the cohesion of the record, yet none of the statements have been remotely bad—BoZ even said he listens to Judah’s interlude when going through the record despite not caring for it.

Given other comments from insiders, maybe what unifies the record is the fact that it is multifaceted in reflecting Lana’s inner world, regardless of how “contradictory” it seems. I’m not expecting a huge sonic shift, but I do think the tone of the record will vary considerably!

here i go analysing v specific lyrics before the song is even out giphy.gifgiphy.gifgiphy.gif

i actually soo love the line "the sea of your daze flashing in front of you" - being dazed, numb, confused etc in the face of something terrible rly does make u feel and experience things in an underwater blur w memory capturing mostly just flashes - but if it's actually "days", she's compared the intensity of her feelings n experiences to the sea before, sea of days fr </3:pray:

  9. NFR was literally #1 for the LB survey asking which record was her “best” (not the “favorite,” per se, but still). The hate/praise probably balance out here in my opinion:true:

Anyways, I can’t wait for TUOB to sweep next year’s survey! I think excitement sometimes raises my expectations too high, but really, I think we’re going to be surprised either way—this seems to be a really unique record that explores many themes/sounds, so if nothing else, I think we’ll all take away a “favorite” from the record :)
