Her recent photos remind me so much of the Ultraviolence and Honeymoon eras! They all seem to have the muted gloominess of UV photoshoots and the soft, relaxed vibe of HM

This is exactly how I feel about NFR’s less lyrically nuanced moments. In those moments where she wasn’t being super poetic or “insightful,” she was delivering really on-the-spot & honest emotional expression. I think the chorus of Cinnamon Girl is a great example of this; it’s not particularly complex from a lyrical standpoint, but it verbalizes a lot of unspoken and implicit hesitations, and she manages to deliver the lines in such a way that is both intimate and vulnerable.

this is probably the most unpopular Lana opinion I have lmao: While I love the songwriting on the chorus & adore the production, I’m not a fan of how the verses on Ultraviolence (the song) were written at all. The structure of the verse’s sentences always read awkwardly to me. I enjoy the sentiment & how it ties into the cult aspect but wasn’t huge on the execution if that makes sense

For me and many others, Born To Die will forever be one of the most game-changing records of we past few decades. As an upcoming artist, Lana managed to produce a perfectly cinematic amalgam of existential hedonism, darkly idyllic Americana, the obsessive sense of invincibility that follows youth, and jarring emotional vulnerability. Executing any of these aspects successfully is a feat of itself, and she managed to encompass all of them with her own stylistic flair in a way that was both cohesive and captivating. Born To Die is forever that bitch.

maybe this is just me, but neil’s COCC photoshoot gives me the same vibes as the LFL demo—very witchy and has a soft murkiness (if that makes any sense lmao) -

what I wouldn’t give to hear some of Honeymoon’s tracklist in their place I know it’ll never happen, but a performance of Swan Song with full instrumentals & Religion with live electric guitars..a dream -

In terms of my favorite from NFR, I teeter back and forth between hope because of its lyricism and California for its emotionality. Those rugged, West-Coast-esque vocals in the chorus of California are so gorgeous and really emphasize the pleading in her voice. The lyrics in the verses are extremely simple but so raw in the same way Ultraviolence (the album) was with its collection of one-takes. Such a good pick!!

This!! I don’t remotely understand why befriending or including rappers was even remotely relevant (especially considering the rapper boyfriend that we’re aware of is white)

I could definitely be interpreting her comment incorrectly, but I more read the comment as an anticipation of people saying she’s being performative—not that she’s trying to necessarily “prove” anything. In other words, it seemed less about showing her good terms with POC and more about clarifying that she’s not including POC because of recent controversies—they’re just people important in her life. Maybe I’m reading it wrong, though. Regardless, I think it’s important to hold people (especially celebrities) accountable for mishandled words & sentiments edit: the “rapper” bit, though? Beyond ignorant if she’s implying what I think she is

I guess loving someone in this context would be avoiding doing something terrible enough to apologize for, maybe? This might make sense given the “Never forgive/Always forget” photo she recently shared

This is a hot take I don’t hear super often!! While I personally prefer the piano version for that specific track because it seemed to pair well with the wistful message, I still think the studio instrumental is really interesting. The mellotron in the studio version has this very hazy, melting(?) quality that I think would sounds really fucking cool on a “trippy” track, and I wouldn’t mind her exploring this more experimental sound more!
