this is actually such a fascinating argument you can make here
on a certain level, von dutch and brat is just the usual result of charli doing something inauthentic and commercial for the previous project - vroom vroom and xcxworld happened as responses to sucker, the overcommerical and overproduced crash was a response to the super diy how i'm feeling now, and sonically whenever charli feels too far from home, its back to the clubs.
while uk pop music has been moving in a 90s/2000s dance/garage direction for the last few years (which she did acknowledge on crash with beg for you and selfish girl), technically even though they didnt deliver on it, both dua lipa and doja cat were talking about their next records being 90s rave inspired in like 2021. you can actually kinda hear the beginning stages of brat on 'what you think about me' on crash too, including what i think is a (sub)conscious interpolation of 'love me or hate me' by lady sovereign, which is kind of exactly the era that brat lives in.
when it comes to von dutch, it is technically par for the course "commercial" in a world where perfect (exceeder) is randomly back in the charts after 20 years - but von dutch 100% predates saltburn, and no one could have predicted perfect (exceeder) and murder on the dance floor to make such huge comebacks on the heels of that film - it kinda seems like in this case, instead of charli being ahead of her time or "chasing trends", the zeitgeist actually set itself up for the release of von dutch and she kinda got lucky that that particular synth sound became popular again with perfect exceeder at the exact right time
cool to think about

I know we get mad at Lana sometimes for paying a lot of her recent music dust at concerts & singing a bunch of BTD songs every time.. but I think honestly if Marina does a tour… she should take a note out of Lana’s book and not play much, if any, of her last two albums <3

Mean Girls has an interpolation of a Bladee song also called Mean Girls. There is also a remix that features an actual verse from Bladee. This is what I chose to believe until release.

I mean, I did want the return of extended and club mixes, and we are getting them, except it feels hallow when the "normal/radio edit" is 2 minutes and the "extended" is 3-4.
My party ass is over here looking for 3:53 radio edits and 6:15 extended edits with dance breaks, a double long bridge, a super long intro AND outro to take you on a
little roller coaster....

it most definitely won't take this fucking long this time but the best we can expect is seeing the two tracks on streaming platforms sometime at late next week
the shooting for the MV for the next single has started recently so that mean that we probably won't see it till mid to late April (ik that Von dutch MV was released two whole months after it was shot but it's important not to forget that because VD was the lead single Charli was forced by Atlantic to do the overlong teasing just like it happened with Good Ones. but luckily for us she will most definitely drop the second single with minimal non grating, non spoiling teasing just like she did with New Shapes)
she probably wanted to give us something to entertain us til the second single comes out
ngl the fact that the thought of putting both tracks available for streaming right away and giving us the full Boiler Room set to keep us entertained for a while hasn't even crossed Charli's mind, make me worry for our gurl
so
Club Classics is a commercial sell out song
Mean Girls is a commercial sell out song
356/Party Girl is commercial sell out song
Girl is a commercial sell out song
So I is a commercial sell out song
This is what u r tryin to say?

Imma bring it up again
I think the most basic way to put the Brat artwork situation is that this is her club record. Club music really never has the artist/producer's face as the artwork, it's almost always text-based. She said that she predicts "pop music will be wayyyy more minimal" and what's more minimal that lowercase text and a solid color background. Male producers are never expected to attach their face to their music the way women are.

She's talking about the entitled twitter gays that need every album cover to be an avant garde surreal image with a gorgeous female artist front and centre or else it's ugly, low effort, 'lets bully her into changing the cover' type of deal. The need for visuals from female artists to be solely them 'serving cvnt' and nothing else of value is where I think the misogyny part comes from.

the gays have no eye for creative direction. all they want is a superficial image that they can project their internal slay queen yas mama popstar wishes onto. no one cares about intention and original image making anymore! artwork is an extension of the music.
a-lot of artists try to adhere to an aesthetic instead of authentically creating something that feels true to the music.

i love her but she very clearly gets caught up on what critics/deaf gay men on forums say about her like... if any music magazine made an article about how break the rules is amazing shed start claiming it all of a sudden. she was right tho when she said that entire thing about being a brat means that youre also lowkey insecure...

i love the brat cover, unironically. also, i think some of you just put way too much effort into overanalyzing her tweets and even going beyond to call every single thing she says "insufferable". almost every time i come here there are like multiple people jumping at her throat and she's not even saying anything remotely earth-shattering. yes, for some stuff like the rina drama i think she can get quite out of touch and in need of some reality check, but damn, not EVERY time she says anything

To this day, I've never disagreed with anything Charli has said, I'll just say that.

Duality would have been such a better title imo and I really don't like the cover so I'm kinda disappointed ngl

The gap between Houdini and Training Season, the radio silence between Training Season and the album announcement, the album visuals being completely different from Houdini and Training Season's visuals, half of the album's lyrics being available on the vinyl preorder images... something isn't right about this rollout, or maybe we were too spoiled with how well the last one ended up being for her even in the face of a pandemic and leaks

i had a dream last night that sky actually announced her new album via instagram and it was called "downfall of a masochist", featured 10 brand new tracks (no previously released, leaked songs or even just known titles) and release was slated to april 12. in that dream, my first reaction was to log in lanaboards and say it was never coming ijbol i don't think i ever dreamed of lanaboards before so i thought it was very funny that this site seems to be ingrained in my brain everytime sky and her lies are involved
