The updated Daughters of the Chapel playlist includes Fishtail by Lana. So I guess the controversy about if Hayden listens to Lana or not is over.

didn't she have a Pinterest board dedicated to lana
also i dont think she sounds like lana or nicole just for the record lol i just mean i think that artists arent like on an island and most of them take conscious and/or subconscious inspiration from all music they've heard in their entire lives and enjoyed or found interesting in some capacity

it's kind of like grimes insisting she isn't inspired by bjork or crystal castles insisting they don't like video games or video game music lol idk dont listen to me

anyway have y'all heard this it makes me go crazy

can we pls stop acting like we know the artists personally sksks. it's as annoying as people saying she copies lana. at the end of the day we can argue every artist is inspired by another artist. it's a never ending cycle that artists, writers, directors, etc will always have to deal with because true, 100% originality is unrealistic in a world where there's an aesthetic for every particular niche on the internet. There's swampcore and midwestcore and every -core in between. there's unrestricted access to forms of media that shape what we like and serve as archives for people who may stumble upon it and realize that like that too, or it inspires them.

i know im rambling right now, but my point is that some of you act so pretentious as if you're the artist lol. dont get me wrong, it's fun to 'gatekeep' from the tiktok stans, and there's always going to be instances where you'll see someone straight up copying something instead of taking elements + putting their own twist on it, but good lord. im not to well versed in the ethel-lore nor even pre-ethel, but i think it's a little silly to act like Ethel as a character isn't something that's never been done before. That isn't a bad thing either. Hayden is a great story teller and I love how grandiose her plans are for the Cain universe. shows how much she loves her craft and you don't see much of that nowadays

Anyways, the Lana comparisons are redundant. @bigspender I do think you should dial it down a bit if you’re gonna act like the voice of Hayden in this thread cause some of what you post in response to people just makes her look bad for no reason . Idk if there’s still an active discord with her in it but if that’s what you’re referring to then keep what y’all are doing in there to yourself… Explicitly posting “we’re making fun of you rn” is So childish. Also one thing that’s been bugging me is that a while ago this thread got closed “per the artist’s wishes” but then I checked the discord and all I saw was you asking one of the mods in there if you should get the Lanaboards thread closed after that tumblr post Hayden made (even tho almost all posts in this thread at the time were positive) and they were like “sure”, so idk why the narrative that she personally asked for the Lanaboards thread to be closed got pushed cause that left a bad taste in people’s mouths up to this day for absolutely no reason lmao…

I mean I totally understand why she would distance herself from being a former Lana fan cause twitter stans are very annoying and act like she got no artistic integrity and is straight up copying Lana (which, again, she’s not). But the whole “she only listened to Ultraviolence once in 2014” thing is just not true . Just a few days ago I saw a vid pop up of her singing Mariners Appartment Complex a few years ago, and she talked about how she loves Ultraviolence before, and then there’s also her old twitter account. Not gonna go deeper into that but c’mon now.

The mass amounts of censorship attempts regarding her deleted music is so silly. People will find and listen to these songs regardless, they're out to the public — that's just a normal part of fame. Having information on them available won't make any difference.

Also, there's obviously Lana inspiration in Ethel's music, even if it's not in every song. I just remembered when she made an account to remove the Lana mention from her Wikipedia page  I'd say the Nicole Dollanganger influence seems way stronger though.

I tried again to sort the unreleased tracks by session, but I didn't take her old released works and compilations with unreleased tracks (I have no idea what they refer to). Also didn't take her songs from Tommy soundcloud account. I need superfans to confirm or deny this list.

    a lotttt
    - American Whore/A&W is the longest song on the album, being “well over 7 minutes”
    - The Grants is not an intro or anything like we were possibly suspecting, it’s a full length song
    - The Bleachers collab is BOZ’s least favorite song on the album
    - Fingertips is track 9 and 5:48 (or around there i don’t want to go back and check)
    - The Rockefeller snippet that Lana shared is called “Candy Necklace”, is track 6, and is 5:16 (again or somewhere around there lmao i don’t want to go back and check 💀)

bestie… their albums that are widely realized and accepted as their best so far and that jack produced were released in the late 2010s-early 2020s. that’s what i’m talking about

The production of an album and the sound has nothing to do with each other. Saying that an album has the production level of another doesn't mean that it will sound like that one, but that the songs will be worked or elaborated at that level. In my humble opinion to say that an album has the production level of albums like: NFR, Melodrama or Honeymoon is a compliment, it doesn't mean that they will sound like that but as I said, the songs will be very well worked and detailed.

2020s was an easier way of saying late 2010s-early 2020s, but Melodrama? NFR? several of Taylor’s albums? The new 1975 record, which I actually just have a feeling is going to become a cult classic a while from now? Clairo? Masseduction? he’s all over pop music, so much so that his sound is going to be what defines late 2010s-early 2020s pop music decades from now, that’s just kind of a fact. it’s the same way Max Martin defined pop music 10 years ago

(also Jack doesn’t have a single credit on Blue Banisters)

The fact is that thanks to Jack we have an Ocean Blvd with clean vocal production, because if they left Lana and Drew alone, we'd have something like BB.

Norman's production is very good, in comparison to BB which sounds sketchy and weird and half of COCK which sounds simple. I think the same about Honeymoon, that's an album with a very solid production.
