def would love to see her experimenting with lush, dreamy sounds and heavy reverb more often - an album full of songs like valley of the dolls would be a blessing, i don’t even mind the fact that this song is just a demo it could be also something more orchestral like titanic rising by weyes blood - i think the closest of this style we had from lana is honeymoon, or something more funky like daddy’s home by st. vincent - reminding me of the bridge from dance till we die something indie rock would be cool too, but in different way than norman - maybe something like big thief/lucy dacus music, maybe something with country influence, maybe something with shoegaze influence

thoughts after seeing piano again: yes you’re evil, but you’re not that bad
-
fun fact: lana is fan of big thief too
-
lyrically-wise, i don’t think this album is going to be anything like honeymoon, or her older more romantic works. i mean, lana kinda confirmed that herself in the interview: “When I’m automatic singing, I don’t have the time and leisure to think about things in terms of colors. It’s very cerebral. In Honeymoon, there were so many color references: “Sometimes I wake up in the morning to red, blue, and yellow skies. It’s so crazy I could drink it like tequila sunrise.” For this new music, there’s none of that at all.” still, recently she seemed to pay a bit homage for this album: using it for this comparison, mentioning swan song later, singing god knows i tried in the church. it seems like she still likes honeymoon and maybe she will do something similar to that record in the future. but for this project, i think she has a different vision

lana is on the cover of essential indie playlist on spotify! maybe it’s a sign that something is really coming

I LOVE THAT SONG the whole album is really good! i’m still getting into her full discography (haven’t heard psychopomp, need to get a better focus the next time i listen to jubilee), but soft sounds from another planet and polvinyl singles are very gorgeous and some of my current faves in music

geidi primes is in my opinion the most interesting grimes record, and my personal favourite from her. it’s such an interesting and unique soundscape; it feels dreamy, surreal and abstract, and i can’t name any other record that would sound like geidi primes. and meanwhile i see that this record isn’t as polished and doesn’t seem to be as finished as other grimes stuff, it’s in my opinion peak of her creativity, along halfaxa - her singing and production are rarely as creative on her more recent works

honestly it’s hard to do because i have so many moods and i know so much songs i could use for the mixtape but i tried to make it cohesive and “the usual me-core”. here it is!

their music is so good on repeat since yesterday

it’s not drew’s, but lana’s intention to do raw vocals: "I’ve been practicing meditative automatic singing, where I don’t filter anything. I’ll just sing whatever comes to mind into my Voice Notes app. It’s not perfect, obviously. There are pauses, and I stumble. But I’ve been sending those really raw-sounding files to a composer, Drew Erickson, and he’ll add an orchestra beneath the words, matching each syllable with music and adding reverb to my voice." so blame lana, not him. drew is a great producer and his orchestral arrangements remind me of that special feeling from her earlier works. i believe if lana asked him to go to the studio and record songs like she does with jack, he would agree. but lana prefers to do it different way with him. i’m not the biggest fan of it either, but i don’t think we should blame drew. if he’s working only with voice memos, he’s doing really good

i wonder who produced this song, because it sounds so gorgeous and dreamy. was it self-produced by lana? i heard that it was a laptop demo but not sure if there’s confirmation of that
-
well, interesting. this is a sign that album is most likely not coming this year if they’re still working on new songs, lana herself said that pressing everything on physical releases takes few months. i guess that’s good though, she didn’t announce anything so she has time to think and create a solid album, she’s aware that nfr was (objectively) better than last 2 records so maybe she wants to create something on the same level. i only hope if she works with jack they bring new sound and won’t use the same samples from older projects. plus i hope there’s more producers associated with the album
