Getting in my feelings about pop girls again and I'm so sad and angry for Britney... thinking about all the things she wanted to do in her career and all the little things about being a MOTHER she had taken away from her. All she did was work and work and work and make great art and for that she was punished with misogyny, stalking, and control. I get so mad thinking about how someone who affected so many people so beautifully, who is so loving and caring, was so manipulated and hurt for no reason. They ruined her ability to trust, they ruined her relationships with her friends, and it sounds like a lot of her problems with her sons now are also from the conservatorship (whether directly or indirectly through the trauma it caused her). A living legend who could be someone like Madonna or Nelly Furtado as a legacy act making music for herself and nobody else... or you know who else? Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera, Paris Hilton, The Devil Man Who I Still Want Poisoned For His Shitty Guitar Playing @ Britney While She Had A Home Abortion On The Bathroom Floor, BEYONCE are the same age as Britney. Some of these people have their own shows, some are doing comebacks and anniversaries, some are doing... whatever Paris just did, and obviously Beyonce has been Beyonce'ing all over the place for the last two decades nonstop. Sometimes I think about how badly Britney just wanted to perform and do her thing and I get so angry about all the years wasted on forcing her to literally dance for others' amusement and others' wealth. She has lost precious time for her career, her family, her fucking ART to this shit. I think all the time about what Britney would be doing right now-- movies? features? fashion?-- and how she is probably retired forever, from everything, because of how shit everybody was to her for just EXISTING in the public eye. I just can't believe we're here in 2024 and one of our greatest stars is not only alive but really very young, and she will probably never do the thing she loves most in the world again because it was spoiled for her by assholes who will never know real consequences. Fuck all of them and I hope Britney experiences full love, appreciation, and healing in her lifetime. 

They are odious. I get not liking Halsey as a person, I am not a fan of her music aside from her rockier sound, but this record is in no way close a one. P4K and Fantano have always had this weird hate towards Miley Cyrus and Lana Del Rey too, which I am sure they only changed their minds on because it drove their website clicks and because Lana's influence is undeniable. I used to enjoy Pitchfork but they've become a cesspool that thrives on hit pieces that deviate from music criticism and hyper-focus on the artist's personal lives a little too much.
 
It's good that people are lashing out at them. Also, Fantano is an idiot who lets his biases influence his music critiques. I dunno why people enjoy his stuff. He seems like the type of person who interrupts you every other second with shit-tier mansplaining takes. His influence comes from a circlejerk of people who cannot come up with their own opinions re: music.
 
IDK, ganging up on somebody when they share something so profound to them and something that touches such serious subjects is really childish and unprofessional as fuck.

PREACH

The fantano and P4K reviews make me so unreasonably mad. This isn't the best album of the year, of course, but there are at least 6 tracks on here that are absolutely stellar. I was so shocked on so many moments of the album when she went so far and so personal, revealing her deepest secrets about death, sickness, family trauma. This album is so personal that it feels even uncomfortable to listen to, like you're reading someone else's diary. And yet, you have sick fucks like Fantano and pitchfork who go out saying she's trying to get clout, be some attention seeker???? So what you're saying is she suffered through cancer for our entertainment, so she could make some money??? I don't fucking get it. If I was Halsey, I would never release an album again, but I hope she ignores these rats and knows that she really made something important that resonated with a lot of people. Just needed to soapbox abt that 

the review was about everything except the music. it was pure yap trash. also anthony fantano gave this album a 1 and said "boohoo you have cancer? get over it". his "review" was equally as bad as pitchfork's if not worse and entirely mean spirited for no reason.
 
its so weird to me that anyone who says "this album is bad" just happens to have a negative bias against halsey and actually don't care about the music that much. but anyway stream the great impersonator

Im loving this!!! She’s so versatile yet she has such a distinguished style for an album called The Great Impresionator! Her lyrics are always so raw and direct, yet poetic! I also love how she touched the subject of her sickness in some songs (from the singles I didn’t think she was going to). On my first listens my favourites in no particular order are:

-    I Believe In Magic 
-    Darwinism 
-    Arsonist 
-    Hurt Feelings 
-    Life of the Spider (Draft)

so far her most chill album, I would even call it almost country at some points. But unlike other (TS I’m looking at you) the stripped down instrumentals make sense and don’t make it boring. Really 90s overall! 
 
I love the direction she’s going with this, for a minute I was scared after listening to So Good (maybe her worst single ever, so mid I can’t put into words), but she took her time after IICHLIWP and delivered once again! She’s going for critical acclaim, sadly she’s far behind her successful days. 
 
Dog Years is specially touching, love the metaphor and the theme of that song  the vibe is vibing 

Wow...this kinda destroyed me and made me felt heard all at the same time 

ALBUM OF THE YEAR

This album was incredible

Sobbed to '74, I Believe in Magic, '83, Life of the Spider (Draft), Hurt Feelings and '98 at 1am on my couch last night. Decided to burn it all down to Dog Years and Arsonist. Darwinism is a spiritual experience.
It's a fucking masterpiece, my favourite work from her so far. If she doesn't tour this in Australia I'll never recover.
