Omg, immediately knew the photographer is Meisel when I saw the pics. He's always been one of my favorite photographers, so great he captured Lana now šŸ˜ I only hope there are more photos inside than only 3. The cover is so fantastic. She looks like a mixture of various Hollywood stars, including some Hitchcock ladies ā¤ļø

Same here. Bought it in 2021 for 110 EUR and one of the art cards was actually signed... That price they ask for is really "tough"Ā
    Ā
Btw, if they offered it for 50 EUR, it would sell out immediately and the scalpers would sell it for 150 on ebay etc. So somehow, the 150 EUR make sense. At least she's not feeding the scalpers, as it's too risky for them to buy and resell. Difference/income not big enough. šŸ˜…

    Thank you for this!
Yeah, I thought about the interviews myself but I am looking for something more formal, you know? But I know that there isn't much written about Lana from a more formal-scholarly point of view so I guess in the end I'll have to stick to them...Ā

I donā€™t think that how it was meant to be understood. Lana said that Lasso was very Americana lyrically: American dream, nature (perhaps), being free, laidback, having the choice to choose your own destiny (ta name a few elements).Ā
If those insider claims are true, itĀ seems she is afraid of what would happen if Trump won, if only for the right to get an abortion. If she paints an idealistic view of what the American lifestyleĀ could be on her album, and with a president she fears could Ā« take it all away Ā», then I could understand not wanting to release her album so soon to a Trump victory, with the morale of the Ā« troops Ā» being so low.Ā
But hey, we have no idea yet if those claims by our new insider are true, so letā€™s take everything with a grain of salt I guess.Ā

Here's a photo next to Hollywood Bowl 7" (which I would consider more of a true red ā€” it's translucent so I put it against white) for comparisonĀ
    Ā
I also took it with my photography lights (although my phone camera is rubbish) for the most accurate representation, and the photos aren't edited at all

Red would just still be alive and the dead body killed by the bull was just someone else. Then he'd be back and the Blacklist would never end. šŸ˜ Any other fans of The Blacklist over here?Ā

A lot of folk songs that came here from the British Isles and then blossomed in Appalachia are about rape, murder, ghosts, fairies, tribal war and slaughter, treachery, betrayal,Ā etc., and haveĀ musically shifted into 'Americana' and early country music since the 17th century. The House of the Rising Sun is an excellent example of that and the Animals did it justice. It sounds as if you would know thatĀ RobertĀ Johnson claimed to have sold his soul to the Devil at the crossroads.Ā

You're absolutely right about the mix of genres that bleed into what we're now calling Southern Gothic, and of course the South also has the loss in the Civil War and the destruction of their previous way of life in their past, with an estimated 260,000 Southern soldiers dead. If you've ever seen the Ken Burns documentary about the Civil War, then you've seen stills of dozens or hundreds of amputated legs in one pile and a nearly equal pile of severed arms in another. And another 360,000 soldiers were killed in the North. Then Sherman marched to the sea and burned everything in his path, including Atlanta.
    Ā
Consider all the slaves who died of torture or neglect or both, and add New Orleans Voodoo and Southern Hoodoo to the mix, as well as Christianity and gospel music.Ā
    Ā
Earlier, there were pirates and privateers in the area when Florida was part of the Spanish Main.Ā
    Ā
So it's easy to see why the American South feels haunted--all those crumbling old graveyards along the coast and the Smoky Mountains themselves--and I hope Lana legitimately taps into its rich atmosphere and history. There's no other part of America like it.Ā
    Ā
But knowing Lana, I'm not holding my breath, especially after the apparent shift she's made about the project. As I said yesterday, it could be that half or more of the original concept has been chucked out the window.Ā

I really disagree about the incoherency. Musically yes, but I think the main tunnel theme - going in with The Grants and walking through theĀ darkness to come out on the other side in the light - that runs through it is what keeps the whole thing together. Itā€™s very thematically coherent in my opinionĀ
  23. Olympia liked a post in a topic by Manchild in Lasso - Pre-Pre-Release Thread
I love that lighter lyrics makes you think of murder ballads šŸ¤£ I think you are right though. Tunnel was so personal and dealt with the trauma of her past a lot. I think by the sounds of it, she may be ready to move on from that.Ā

I'm sooo quiet about this because there's so much to listen to right now, so many new (and old) songs to discover, so much to do! And most important I'm quiet because she never disappoints at the endĀ
