  1. Man On The Man by Britney Spears is such a Lana-esque song, at least lyrically.... "Dark mascara dripping down my face" (This Is What Makes Us Girls tea, anybody?) "Send my message into outer space, Wonder if it's gonna float your way" (ohhhh the intergalactic possibilities!) "Waiting for my man on the moon" (Honeymoon tea tbh) "Last night I was in your arms so strong" (reminds me of Video Games - "he holds me in his big arms") "Now there's meaning in the saddest songs, All I do is cry and sing along" (such a Lana sounding lyric, I mean, it's basically Sad Girl all over again) "Drinking alone in my party dress, Would you come back if I looked my best?" (The infamous party dress returns!) And then don't forget in the bridge... "Chateau Marriott"!!..... I mean, how similar to Lana's obsession with Chateau Marmont. Y'all would have to be blind to not notice the parallels her!

    Britney Spears

Honestly I am just so impressed that she served an album of EIGHTEEN brilliant songs. Yes, some of them aren't perfect but seriously after the mess of Britney Jean they are like 1000 times better. Queen of comebacks
  6. Made a lyric video for "Dangerous Woman". I'm super excited for her new album, I'm loving all the tracks so far! It sounds like she's heading in a somewhat more mature direction with this album
  7. I think that she's just happy to finally doing things her own way. During the UV era, she had to fight to release the music, the videos and so on. But with Honeymoon, I feel like her label just decided to let her do her thing. She was finally allowed to release the footage from the original UV video, she made an album with one of her best friends, it was a really personal record, and there wasn't as much commercial pressure since no one was expecting another Born to Die (well, most people anyway ) since people knew that since UV she had different things planned. And after all, it was still a really successful campaign and beautiful album. It didn't sell as much as Born to Die, that's for sure, but I don't think that really bothers Lana. She just wants to be able to make a living doing something she loves and making her life into a work of art, and she's doing just that. Plus, the critics loved it and she proved that she's not some fake plastic pop princess, she's a real artist and she is a brilliant one at that. I think her label has just accepted that Lana isn't some huge pop diva, she's unique and does her own thing, and people still love it and still support her and buy her work. I'm pretty sure that apart from Lady Gaga, she generally outsells all of the other artists signed to her label, and that's considering they do a shit load of promo, and Lana does... well, not that much Anyway, it makes so happy to see Lana happy. I also hope this will translate into the next album.
  8. Firstly, I would just like to apologize if this thread makes no sense or is really poorly written or confusing. it's a really abstract concept and therefore difficult to explain. So I had this weird thought about Lana's albums/songs the other day. Each album is quite a different body of work, consisting of very different moods and atmospheres. For example, AKA has this southern coastal vibe, Born to Die has a very polished, Hollywood sadcore vibe; Paradise is a tale of redemption, while UV is dark, brooding and has a lo-fi rock atmosphere and Honeymoon is a calm, soothing, jazz-influenced record with trap elements. I found it was interesting comparing Lana's albums/songs to the four common elements: earth, fire, water and air. I don't quite know how to word this, but I have strange associations between these elements and Lana's music. I've decided to explain my ideas about the elements on each of Lana's albums: AKA (mainly water, also some earth and air, not much fire) has a lot of water elements, obviously due to the coastal vibe that David Kahne brought to the album. It also feels quite earthy, as it's very modest and not overproduced. There's a lot of coastal and earthly lyric references also ("I'm in love lying in the sand" / "palm trees in black and white" / "I'm in the shower" etc.) There's also a few references to stars, which brings to mind the element of air (for example "69 million stars", "keep out the stars" etc.) "Spirits creeping in my yard" also reminds me of air. I don't sense much fire in AKA tbh. Born To Die (fire, water) Doesn't have as much earth as her other albums, as it's quite polished and overproduced, and doesn't feel as natural as her last albums. It has a lot of fire (she also references fire a lot throughout the album: "fire of my loins" and so on) a little bit of ocean ("lying in the ocean singing your song", etc.) Paradise (fire and air) I mainly just get fire from Paradise. "I've got a burning desire for you" ---> fire "I sing the body electric" ---> fire "I'm on fire, baby, I'm on fire" Yayo and Bel Air feel like "air" songs to me. Ultraviolence (all four elements) for me has the most of all elements. It's earthy because it's so organic and raw and honest. And there's a lot of references to flowers/fruits, i.e. "blue hydrangea"/ "deadly nightshade"/ "poison ivy" / "cherries in the spring" / "guns and roses" and so on. Also, "feathers in my hair" feels very earthly too me. There's a lot of air from the reverb (e.g. "I'm free..." in Brooklyn Baby, those kinds of moments feel like air to me. Plus, there's the lyric "I think we're like the WIND and sea", "I'm cooling down", "I can see my baby SWINGING"). There's A LOT of fire, and I definitely think Lana's description of UV sounding like "blue fire" is definitely accurate in my opinion. Plus, she makes a lot of references to fire ("he's got the fire and he walks with it"/ "his Parliament's on fire"/ "I think we're like FIRE", "you're burning up", "I'm feeling hot to the touch", "I'm feeling hotter than fire", "I'm on fire, baby", "turn it up HOT" etc.) "Hot, hot weather in the summer" could also be a reference to fire. Water: "like the wind and SEA", a coastal vibe on a lot of songs, particularly Florida Kilos, West Coast. Pretty when you cry ---> water. Riviera girls --> riviera = water. "Sun and OCEAN BLUE". "his strange weather" --> all the elements Honeymoon (air, some water) I feel like Honeymoon is so different to her other albums because it has so much AIR. Like, all the songs sound like air to me, the way they are smooth and have such slow tempos, like a cool breeze drifting along. It's hard to explain, but I just hear air in all of the songs. She even says "SLOW dance to rock music" this to me indicates air so much. And she also sings about dancing in God Knows I Tried. And just listen to the chorus of Salvatore, to me it sounds so much like air with the "aaaaah, cacciatore" and so on in the chorus. "High by the beach", "rushing up to the WATER where the ice meets", "let the ocean wash away", "like aquamarine, ocean blue", "rapping in the summer rain" and so on --> some water elements Apart from the lyrics, I don't HEAR fire or earth. Yes, there's a few lyrics like "and fire that surrounds you", "flames so hot that they turn blue", "through the fire, we're born again" and so on that make allusions to these elements but I just don't hear them in the songs. I feel like the reason Ultraviolence is my favourite Lana album is because I can feel all of the elements. I know that sounds so weird but it's just such an intense album and I can't think of anything that feels missing. So anyway, what do you think about Lana's albums/songs in relation to the elements? What elements do you hear the most in Lana's music? Are there any particular songs that really stand out as having particular elements?
  9. How is this not a bad thing? Insecurity isn't a great thing as far as I'm aware...
  10. I'm starting to think that Lana is really going to be making a BTD 2.0 next time around. She has reclaimed her BTD auburn style in all of its glory. And going out to events a lot more! She was photographed with Justin Parker near the end of last year, probably writing new material for the next album: And now she's with Emile Haynie again... Plus, remember this from the interview in NME Magazine from December last year: I know this is just speculation, but judging by all of this, I seem to have a feeling she might want to make a record more in the vein of Born to Die again. I mean, it looks as if she could be working with Emile Haynie and Justin Parker again, who both worked on Born to Die, she's starting to act more like her BTD self (going out to more events, posting more often, and so on) and even changed her hair back to that style, plus she even stated in an interview she could see herself making another New York record. What do y'all think? Time to open up an LDR 5 (Pre-Release and Discussion Thread) already?
  11. I still think the title track is the best song on Honeymoon. Yes, it's slow but the pace actually makes it very relaxing and easy to listen to. Lana's vocals are just divine and have this depth of maturity that I honestly haven't heard much in the past. And don't get me started on those strings and how heavenly they are. And that bridge and outro, SO BEAUTIFUL and dreamy! Cannot get enough of this song.

    Björk

Only started listening to Björk a week ago, but omg it was probably the best decision I've made in my life! I have just been bopping and crying to all of these amazing songs literally every moment I can!! I'm yet to come across a song of hers I don't like which is extremely rare for me, because usually in even my fave singers there's always some songs I don't like, but for Björk, I just can't find a song I hate!! So far, my standout albums are Vespertine, which is my fave (I think it's literally my third fave album of all time omg!! ), followed by Homogenic, Vulnicura, then Volta. Haven't really gotten into Biophilia yet, the songs are nice but nothing has really stood out to me on it yet. I love all her other albums as well, those 4 are just the ones I keep going back to for more! Some of her overall best songs in my opinion, are Hidden Place, It's Not Up to You, Pagan Poetry, Jóga, Bachelorette, Earth Intruders, Declare Independence, Aurora, Stonemilker, Lion Song, Cover Me, and a few others. I just cannot get enough of this woman. I love how each album is completely different and has a really strong vision, style and image. And her cover arts are literally the best I've ever seen!! And I find her accent so cute and it adds this unique sound to her voice and the songs.
  13. Lana attended two events back to back in one night. After the first event, the annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party (the event that your photos you posted came from), she went to Vanity Fair. This thread is for the Vanity Fair event, so your photos didn't belong on this thread. But thanks for posting, regardless of it being the wrong thread, they're the most HQ versions of those pics I've found so far
  14. We should have known this was coming after her whole Burnt Norton speech... She was obviously hinting that she was going to be going back in time and bringing back old the BTD Lana with time travel
  15. Queen of hiding for 84 years then coming and SLAYING everyone by surprise all in the same month Here are some more of my faves that no one's posted yet: Lana with some cute guy who I don't know the name of: Cute guy #2: Cute guy #3: She is just GLEAMING here And what a tragedy... Lana poses with Caitlyn Jenner... Look how awkward and uncomfortable they both look And don't worry, even this random chick got a photo with the QUEEN.
  16. Another one I just remembered... In Art Deco, Lana says "you want more... why? why? why?" The "why?" melody is extremely similar to the intro of Born to Die. So similar many people think it is a sample. What do you think?
  17. Lana attends the Weinstein Company Pre-Oscars dinner celebration in Beverly Hills, California She reunited with old friend Jaime King, as well as Lady Gaga, Julia Jackson and fans.

    Salvatore

    Somebody summon me??
  19. I can't say much for your Björk/ Lana analogy as I am unfamiliar with her discography, but as far as that last sentence goes, I love the way you articulated your thoughts. I think you're right. She either appeals completely to the GP but not the critics (BTD), or the critics only and not the GP (UV, HM). I think she needs to find that middle ground where there's a bit of a balance between GP appeal/critic appeal. I think out of all of her albums, HM appealed to the GP the least. While I don't want her to go down a completely pop-driven route, I do think she needs to at least increase the tempo of her songs on the next album, or do something else that appeals to the GP just a little bit more than HM, or else I'm afraid she'll just continue selling less and less.
  20. Thanks for sharing. Any other innovative comments you'd like to add?
  21. 1. The bridge of "Ghetto Baby" samples the chorus of "Match Made in Heaven". "We're a match made in heaven, If they're gonna talk, let 'em. If they don't think we're good together, Baby, just forget 'em......" 2. The melody at the very end of "24" is the melody Lana would sing at the end of her live performances of "Million Dollar Man".
