Sorry for posting all those lyrical parallels, didn't realise you only meant melodies. Oops! Anyway, the melody at the end of each line in the bridge of Honeymoon sounds similar to a line from Brooklyn Baby. ...guns that blaze around you ...fire that surrounds you ...neither fought nor found you (almost a recycled version of "And my jazz collection's rare...")

Lana at the British Awards February 24th 2016
delreyfreak replied to gloomyharlow's topic in Appearances
Are people actually pissed she didn't win? Like, if she'd lost to Meghan Trainor or Ariana then that'd be fair enough because Lana is so much better than them, but Bjork is actually a good artist and although I don't know much of her music, I think she deserved it. I'm sure Lana really doesn't care about winning anyway. I mean, I think she already knew there wasn't much of a chance of her winning anyway, so it wouldn't have been a surprise. Maybe if her next album smashes us all out of the park then she could be on the way. I just don't think she'll ever win with albums like Honeymoon. I think she'd only win if she went in a more poppier route, even though that's not exactly what I want from her. -
1. In "Carmen", Lana foreshadows her Honeymoon song "Swan Song": Carmen: "Sing your swan song, now the camera's on" vs. Swan Song: "It'll be our swan song" 2. Lana references "Yayo" on every album prior to Honeymoon: AKA: original version of the song "Yayo" BTD: repackaged Paradise version (see below) Paradise: re-recorded version of "Yayo" from AKA UV: "Florida Kilos" has the word "yayo" stated at least 18 times (can't be bothered counting) 3. Freak and Florida Kilos both contain a very similar lyric with a similar melody: Freak: "Come to California" vs. Florida Kilos: "Come on down to Florida" 4. "Angels Forever" explores a similar theme of freedom and escapism as "Ride". There is also a lyric parallel, and Angels Forever also states the title of the EP that Ride appears on, which is surely no coincidence. Angels Forever: "Paradise is a game of do or die, I just ride, ride" vs. Ride: "So I just ride, just ride..." 5. There is a similar reference to cherry lips in "Black Beauty" and "Driving in Cars With Boys": DICWB: "Make up stories 'bout my life and put on very cherry balm" vs. Black Beauty: "I keep my lips red to seem like cherries in the spring." 6. There is a reference to the colour dark blue in both "Black Beauty" and "Honeymoon" (Could they both be about Barrie?) BB: "You can't let everything seem so dark blue" vs. HM: "Dark blue, dark blue" 7. In "True Love on the Side", Lana foreshadows her eventual Ultraviolence single "Brooklyn Baby" TLOTS: "Everybody knows that they call me Brooklyn baby" vs. BB: "I'm a Brooklyn baby, I'm a Brooklyn baby..." 8. Lana also foreshadows her album and single "Ultraviolence" on a track from her Lizzy days called "Hundred Dollar Bills". Is it a coincidence both songs also reference a Jimmy?? Also, note that HDB references a "blue Chevvy nova" and "Shades of Cool", which comes after UV on the album also references a Chevvy. Any significance there perhaps? HDB: "I like your ultraviolent swing" vs UV: "Give me all of that ultraviolence." 9. "Driving in Cars With Boys" and "Ultraviolence" both reference a man calling her poison ivy: DICWB: "Call me poison ivy 'cause I'm far from good" vs. UV: "He used to call me poison, heck, I was poison ivy" 10. "Heaven in your eyes" is another favourite Lana line: National Anthem: "Baby, heaven's in your eyes" Starry Eyed: "You've got heaven in your eyes" Note: I think there are possibly more references to this, I just can't think of them right now. 11. Oh, and who could forget her infamous red party dress! Cruel World: "Put my little red party dress on" Summertime Sadness: "I've got my red dress on tonight" Again, possibly more I'm forgetting. 12. And what about those pale moonlight references! Summertime Sadness: "Dancing in the dark in the pale moonlight" Body Electric: "Dancing and grinding in the pale moonlight" Meet Me in the Pale Moonlight: "you can meet me in the pale moonlight" I'm sure there are even more references, I'll come back if I can think of any more parallels. Some of these might actually be a bit of a stretch but thought I'd share anyway!

I agree with your points, but your spelling of "declining" made me lol

There's something about this song that I can't explain. Like, some days it's FANTASTIC and the biggest bop! But other days, I cannot stand it and have to skip it. Idk, it's probably the only song from Honeymoon (apart from DLMBM) that I have to be in the right mood to listen to it.

She looks great! YAY! AND she won an award! Lana is making a comeback people!

Anyone have a DL link to "Blue Moon" that leaked? The tumblr link is broken and I cannot find a link anywhere Feel free to either PM me or post a link. Thanks in advance!!

You know your argument makes more sense when the other person says they "can't be bothered to read that much from you" and "don't care to respond to anything".

I feel like your post is somewhat irrelevant too. I mean, @@CriesMarmalade didn't even say her entire discography has limited writing. She's saying there are flaws that remain within pretty much all of her work. There's a difference between limited songwriting and having a few recurring flaws. I actually agree that Lana does have flaws in her work, much like every other artist out there. Does having a few recurring flaws equal limited songwriting? No. You're taking words out of others' mouths. @@CriesMarmalade was just stating that Lana has some flaws in her work, which is quite a reasonable thing to say, since every artist will have flaws in their work, and often those same flaws will remain for a lot of their work. Also, you said: "The fact is if you wanna just moan about her entire discography, this ain't the place." I don't mean to sound stupid, but if this isn't the place to discuss unpopular Lana opinions, then where should people? Just because someone else's comment doesn't align perfectly with your fangirl mentality of praising every single thing Lana does, doesn't mean they're not allowed their opinion. You're basically saying, "if your opinion is different to mine, you can't post it" and that's a ridiculous attitude. And I don't think the user was "moaning about her entire discography" at all. They stated a simple opinion, how they believe Lana's writing is often flawed to some extent. Did they say they don't like Lana's work? Did they say it was limited in EVERY song? NO. They just said that Lana's writing isn't perfect. And if you think otherwise, I think you're delusional, because, as far as I'm aware, there have been a number of flaws with Lana's writing. Enough to stop me from listening to her music? No way. Never. Her music is just too good, in other ways. I just find it a bit hypocritical of you to blurt your opinions on every thread you can find, but then tell someone else they can't share their opinion since it criticises Lana in the slightest way. And besides, this is the UNPOPULAR LANA OPINIONS thread. The whole purpose of this thread is to come here with UNPOPULAR opinions.

oMG she looks stunning though <3 and guys don't take her comments about it being similar to Honeymoon too seriously. She said Honeymoon was like her Born to Die/Paradise sound and it's pretty much nothing like it, apart from the strings. Plus, she said the next one will be "similar aesthetic", doesn't that describe the visuals more than the sound?? idk
-
Just while we're at it, I have to point out how beautifully written West Coast is. No matter how it's produced or sung, the melodies are still perfect.
-
Yeah, true. I suppose it wasn't really the place to start talking about how messy Interscope has been, lol. Although, I think saying that they've done everything perfectly was stupid. Like, I get that she couldn't really say the bad things they done, but saying PERFECT is such a bold statement, particularly for someone who has had so many public problems with their label. Idk, it just irks me that she said perfect. She could have easily said "they've done so many amazing things for me" which wouldn't be lying, because that's more of a truthful statement. Plus, it still makes the label look good so they couldn't get mad at her. I don't know if I'm making sense, it just annoys me that she is willing to say they're perfect when there have been a number of occasions where they've really been the exact opposite. I mean, trying to force Lana to change her entire UV album, and then scrap half of her visual ideas was anything but perfect.

No, no and no. She needs to keep evolving and doing new things in my opinion. I love all her past albums as much as the next Lana stan, but I wouldn't want a 2.0 of any of them, even my personal favourite album UV. The best thing about Lana is how she switches everything up every era and album. I'm excitedly awaiting her next move to see what the style, sound, image and concept of her next album/era will be. Her hair looks amazing but I highly doubt she's truly ever going back to her BTD sound/style. What's in the past is in the past and you honestly need to let go of BTD. I swear haf the posts you make on here are about how nothing is as good as BTD and how she should go back to her BTD sound and blah blah Born to Die blah blah. Move on. We're in 2016. Lana has changed. And maybe you should too. There is nothing wrong with loving BTD and it being your favourite album, but going everywhere and saying how she "should go back to that image, style and sound" is super annoying. She should move on to the next phase of her discography, not regress back to something she's grown out of.
-
Musically, she's constantly evolving for me. Although I think UV is her best piece of work, HM is not far from it, and it's certainly a step up from her other works. I love how she has managed to try out a different style every album and never completely repeat her past works. As long as she continues to do that, I think I will always stan her. In areas other than the music, I think it's quite a common belief around here that she has declined, and sadly I'd say I do agree to some extent. Her videos this era, while containing some stunning visuals and concepts, just weren't up to par with her past works. MTWBT could have been perfect had she not insisted on using a B&W filter the whole way through. Freak could have also been better, had she not decided to reuse 5 minutes of old footage with a piece of music that isn't even her own. She also hasn't been promoting much at all. I'm not saying she has to go on TV more or tour or anything like that, because I understand that's never really been her thing, but she could at least try to promote more on her social media, or do a few interviews or HQ live performances here and there. In some ways, I think she has declined, but for me, the main thing I care about is her music, and I feel like that has always been getting better and better. So as long as she continues to evolve musically, I'm happy. Music videos, live performances, tours and so on are all nice little extras for fans, but I think we need to realize that she doesn't owe us anything.

Freak Music Video Premiering February 9th

I think you misread what @@MadMax was saying. They said that the idea wasn't as good as say Born to Die or Ride, but she worked with people who really brought her vision to life and made it work well. -
Freak Music Video Premiering February 9th

Random thought I just had... in the Ultraviolence video, you can see Lana licking Fran's fingers. I wonder if this has anything to do with the shot of Lana in the Freak video, putting LSD on FJM's tongue? I doubt its a coincidence, especially considering the Freak video was the initially planned UV video. I wonder if Lana re-shot the UV video but still wanted to incorporate the tongue part into the new video? Not sure of the significance of these two shots, but thought it might be worth mentioning. -
Freak Music Video Premiering February 9th

It was kinda meh. The visuals were beautiful but it was quite clear they were just slapped over the top of Freak just so the footage could be released in full. Although I usually tend to prefer music videos with story/plot lines, I have come to accept that Lana doesn't always go down that route, and I've come to love her videos like West Coast, Shades of Cool, and so on, that are more focused on the visual aspect of things rather than the story. But with Freak, the visuals didn't even make sense at all. At least Music To Watch Boys To followed a theme of Lana reversing the male gaze and watching the boys instead. But Freak just doesn't have a meaning at all to me. It's a bunch of old footage with a new song slapped over the top, and 5 minutes of more old footage with a song that has absolutely nothing to do with the song Freak, or the video at all. -
Honeymoon - Post-Release Discussion Thread + Poll
delreyfreak replied to annedauphine's topic in Post-Release Threads
...and some people are fantasizing about her going back to her Lizzy days and changing her name and performing SMALL GIGS even though she is famous and is happy with her new name. Plus, Lana and Lizzy are the same. Lana has stated that a number of times now. All she did was change her name to something she felt was HERS, and not just something handed down to her by her parents. -
