in light of finding out that UV could have been a double album, that makes this quote really interesting.
We've been assuming that the double album would have been songs that had been recorded in the same session as the album, but this makes it seem like we're wrong. It also helps make sense why Freak Like Me sounds very UV, it most likely started out for the second album.
I'm really interested if the confirmed 2014 songs
(California
Crazy For You
Honeymoon
Freak
Soft Ice Cream (Salvatore)
24 Hours
Swan Song
Blackest Day
Pink Flamingos (Music To Watch Boys To)
Dark City
Dead To Me
I Can Fly (rework of original 2013 demo))
have the same kind of UV-esque demos. We Know Dark City and California have a more UV vibe

Larry Jackson speaks about getting Lana Del Rey on SNL & signing her to Interscope!
https://open.spotify.com/episode/7F3Xomh64jZibxbLuOhXuw?si=ca2f46102e8c4f75
Larry speaks about A&R and how amazing Lana Del Rey is! he helped sign her to Interscope and get her the SNL deal. calls her initially as "ah Lizzy"
Larry and his pal John Ehmann were fired from SONY Music. John Ehmann said Larry should listen to a demo called "Diet Mtn Dew" by an artist named Lana, who Sony just passed on.
Larry loved it!
says he met Lana 2 months after he himself moved to Los Angeles. she came in looking like she had walked off the set of the BTD album cover! Lol. he was enthralled by her.
Says the night before she signed w/Interscope, she got a deal from SONY UK for 2 times as much money, and she said No! and signed the next day with Interscope !!!! (our queen)
Larrys says lana means so much to him and Interscope. He says at that point he was willing to help her do anything to help her artistic vision come to life (especially understanding that 2 times amount Sony offered was a big deal to a artist trying to make ends meet)
He says she told him she wanted to be "Gangsta Nancy Sinatra" and he was sold! Ed/Ben/Lana signed officially and INterescope helped them make BTD with Emile Haynie and Justin Parker.
BTD cost only $183,000.
says he got an idea to write a letter to Jimmy Iovine to send to Lorne Michael of SNL about getting Lana on.
Discussed how being an A&R is about believing in the vision when no one else does. Says the Brian Williams article was very hurtful to him and to lana (bc at the time Brian Williams was a respected journalist - which is funny now because he got fired and lost journalistic integrity for fabricating a story about jumping out of a plane in the Iraq war in 2003 _ LOL did "did anyone else die for you")
Larry talks a bit more about how she and Chief Keef at such important musical figures who have shaped music and provided a breath of fresh air to a time of stagnant music.
Larry says he felt extremely motivated after SNL and so did Lana.

I think it was touched on like once in the past a very long time ago
I mentioned it in a thread 2 months ago so this is so cool to know that it hasn't been a forgotten fact... though a little misleading because though she wasn't signed with Sony, she had a deal with them and had a lot of sessions under them (late 2010-mid 2011), I believe this was just for her to work more and bring new music into them to potentially sign her but they weren't feeling anything she was doing. Then Video Games blew up and Sony probably wanted to sign her then but she was like nah and went to Interscope
There was a guy at Sony who was in love with Lana (thought she was hot) and opened up closed studios just for her to record free stuff queen shit...

Alexander Wildenstein liked a post in a topic by Lindsay Lohan in Lana songs with poor mastering/engineering?
Fully regarding the mastering / engineering and not the production style itself, these are what I have issues with:
American - Like @Dark Angel said, the high pass filter they used on her vocals drives me INSANEEEE it's ear-wrenching... I still like the song I just can't listen to it
Every single Dan track on Ultraviolence is filled with glitches, clicks, mic leak, bad take injection, distortion, quality distortion, etc. I adore the album but it could have sounded 100x better if they had someone else engineering those tracks... there's an endless amount of errors on every track.
The Next Best American Record - Strange overly processed vocal mixing, same issue with American
California - Bad vocal mixing
Tulsa Jesus Freak - This song has always sounded off to me, bad mixing from every angle, bad vocal mixing, guitar too loud it becomes distorted, very messy altogether
Dark But Just A Game - If Jack were to come out and say this was a demo they didn't touch after the first mix I'd believe it
Arcadia - HORRIBLE VOCAL MIXING, distorted vocals when it gets too loud, cracks through the song
Black Bathing Suit - A Mess. Her worst produced song ever. The obvious cuts from studio to voice memo are so awful it makes the song unlistenable to me, terrible drums, bad vocal mixing, disharmonious chorus, cracks, clicks, distortion, why was this released seriously...
If you Lie Down With Me - Horrible vocal mixing, distortion, I do like this song though
Beautiful - Bad vocal mixing / distortion
Violets For Roses - Worst vocal mixing ever, piano distortion, there's a lot that makes this song a production nightmare
Thunder - Some of the worst engineering of her career, instrumental leak from the demo, vocal and production distortion, bad vocal mixing, bad drums, bad instrumental, it's just not well done at all
Living Legend - Bad mixing and mastering, the leaked version sounds better
Cherry Blossom & Nectar - Bad mastering, leaked versions sound better.
Sweet Carolina - Terrible mastering work here, vocal distortion, bad vocal mixing.
Kintsugi - Vocal muffled to death
Fingertips - Vocal distortion, bad instrumental engineering
Margaret - Terrible vocal mixing, messy work on engineering throughout, muffled to death
Fishtail - MUFFLED TO DEATH
Peppers - MUFFLED TO DEATH and terrible mixing on chorus, bad vocal mixing, clicks, cracks, this is what you would expect an amateur soundcloud beat maker to create
Taco Truck - Vocals are so muffled its unlistenable, horrible vocal mixing, bad mastering almost ear piercing like American, sounds cheap honestly
Looking For America - Muffled, filled with clicks, bad mastering, obvious pitch correction in spots
I Can Fly - Messy engineering in the chorus, vocals slightly over processed

Alexander Wildenstein liked a post in a topic by Dark Angel in Lana songs with poor mastering/engineering?
@Lindsay Lohan has actually pointed it out before that they used some sort of high-pass filter on her voice, which makes it sound "crispy"
i can honestly hear it, but it doesn't take away my enjoyment of the song, personally

Alexander Wildenstein liked a post in a topic by West Coast in Lana to present Jack Antonoff with "Producer of the Decade" award at the 8th annual Variety Hitmakers event - December 7th, 2024
My point is that she's THE Lana Del Rey and she needs to stop acting like she was nothing before they crossed paths--he did not elevate her art to a so-called God-tier level all on his own, to the point where she cannot envision a future without him on board.
She needs to give herself more credit, and also more credit to past collaborators. Jack Antonoff did not make Lana Del Rey. That's all.

I would kill for a LFL era 2.0. She didn’t post too much, but it was enough to keep us fed. I’ll never forget her listening to White Mustang and doing her makeup Like she could do that again with Henry.
Then that random snippet of the Cherry demo.
and then Roses Bloom For You? Magical.
and on top of that we were constantly fed a stream of new music. Love (which leaked early little fuckers), Lust For Life, Groupie Love, Summer Bummer, and Coachella.
Like I know a lot of fans dislike LFL, but you could tell she really loved it and I’d take even a 10th of that. One snippet in almost a year, and the brief times she has talked about music she sounds so disinterested. I would have been happy if the album announcement had included the same snippet of Henry she posted in January. Just something to affirm she’s excited about what she’s been creating

Seems there is a new insider on ATRL who knows info about other artists and he said that Lana's album is not mastered yet. This contradicts a previous claim from another insider, but would explain why we have to wait at least 6 months.
He also said he'll share more about the album when the preorder comes out.

Hello guys, sometimes I wonder abt some random Lana stuff and I wanted to know what is you guys opinion.
1) If black beauty didn’t leak, would everything be different today?
2)is Jimmy a real person or just a name she uses for her exes in general?
3) what’s the story behind fine china?
4) who’s bill and did she married him? There’s an unleaked song where she mentions marrying a man named bill. Is bill a good guitarist?
5)is lana ungrateful when it comes to David Kahne?
just curious on you guys thoughts

Lana performing at Wembley is so iconic. Only a few very popular pop girls have been able to do it, let alone artists like her.
