she talks about being the 'bad girl that knows better', having a chameleon soul, no fixed personality, etc and i think its all true. i remember reading an article about her where the interviewer describes her as being 'coltishly innocent' with a 'vampish sense of knowingness'. i think that's a pretty accurate description of her lyrics, her imagery, and her personality. its probably also why people are so quick to assume that she's inauthentic, or putting on some sort of an act -- she seems to be a bit of a walking contradiction. personally, i think lizzy grant was more 'coltish and innocent' while lana del rey is more 'vampish and knowing'. elizabeth (herself) is probably a combination of those things and more. i think her beauty and her broadly overactive mind have come to shape her the most. she seems highly sensitive and intuitive to people's energies, her surroundings, and her own thoughts. since she tends to remain quiet (or ~ contemplative), perhaps even stoic or detached, people have thus come to perceive her as being stuck up, arrogant, possibly even vapid, if not worse. maybe these reactions have pushed her into her own shell, or left her quite cynical? i think a large part of her insecurities come down to the misperceptions (and passive aggressions) that have probably followed her throughout life. the anxiety of first impressions must be monumental for her. ultimately, i think she loves being beautiful, but its probably an often bittersweet kind of thing. i think she's been able to see the darker depths of human nature as a result. i think she feels a bit defensive about her looks; part of her may even resent what it does to those around her. but paradoxically, i think she needs to feel beautiful. i think she's a sweet person. i think she cares deeply about others' happiness, despite potentially being a bit aloof? i mean, i remember reading david kahne write that she was always riding the subway late at night by herself. so her being ~weird~ and aloof may be due to a self reflective nature. i also think she's a bit of a narcissist (which unfortunately, seems to be correlated with introversion). this comes back to her dual personality: she often seems insecure, awkward, and nervous. yet she knows that she's beautiful. she knows that she's smart, and she knows that she's talented. i guess it might be hard to attain a sense of self-security when you've got no fixed personality. but she seems happier and more confident now? i think she's come to feel validation (for her talents, and artistic intuitions) -- and its completely warranted. i think she's happy because people are starting to see how great she is, and now she can work on any kind of project that pops up in her mind without worrying about how it'll be received. i mean, after pussy cola, she can kind of do whatever the fuck she wants right? i dunno what else to say at the moment. a lot of what i feel that i know about her may just be random, abstract comprehensions mixed with vague projections. i guess she seems rather complicated. or simple, maybe? i dunno. but despite everything, i like to think she's as real as they come in this particular industry. also, if any of you are into jungian typology, i'm fairly certain that she's an INFP
  4. this might be a stupid or flat out impossible request, but can you write some kind of like, lay tutorial on how to properly listen to music? i think its kind of hard for me to focus with my ears, so i end up hearing everything from a more... holistic perspective, without any understanding (or distinction) of the parts that ultimately complete the whole. i think my eyes have all the fine perceptual tuning that my ears seem to lack
  5. i like the cake part. i don't think she means like, vanilla buttercream tho as in most of her recent songs, some lyrics are good, some are like borderline retarded. but i like how super dramatic it all sounds. gives me swooping tummy feels
  6. i don't think any attempt to prove onerself would immediately render that person disingenuous. in fact, i think you can do something for fun, while trying to prove yourself, and still be altogether genuine. i just wonder what her motivations are. personally, i think she wants the world to love her and to see her for who she is. not just because she's human, but because she seemed rather butt-hurt in several of her past interviews. i think she's genuine, but i also think she's smart and a bit fame-hungry. the latter two can probably cause some lines to blur
  7. omg. i love super 8 -- the colors / lack of sharpness turn a standard beach visit something otherworldly, almost like some sort of real-life cartoon. she (they?) captured some really beautiful scenery too i wonder why she keeps releasing so many random covers. not that i'm complaining obviously, i just wonder if she's still trying to prove herself to the general public. i'm glad though -- now they can see another side to her voice, and absorb more of her creative elements. i would hope that, at this point no one could really still consider her to be 'manufactured' or 'inauthentic'. i can't think of any other "pop" star that would have the animus or the ability to release something as personal and care-free as this. her talent(s) just seem to be effortless... i'm hoping that with all these releases, more people start realizing it too
  8. i understand that they'd essentially want to stamp the image on top of the tee (which wouldn't be difficult, if you were printing something small, like.. psy or an angry bird), but I guess in my head it just seems like more work / quality control. you can't really get a photograph to show up on a tee in photographic quality unless its gonna be printed in extreme detail. i have two shirts like this, and they couldn't even be done on cotton, because the fabric has to be really fine. one is like, silk/rayon and another a bizarre polyester. my point is, this kind of print seems to require more thought (or at the very least -- higher level processing) than your run of the mill graphic tee due to the size of the print and the necessary fabrics. i would hope that these would be printed on good tees at least. i kind of want one. it doesn't say what it's made of, but it says it can't be dry cleaned, so it can't be cotton these t-shirts make sense to me. i mean, lana herself is kind of a product. but one that required more ... thought, and higher level processing (on all ends -- particularly hers). the lighter and flask though? unnecessary. we get it lana, you're a ~ bad ass bitch ~ i don't know what i would do if someone pulled out a Lana Del Rey lighter and/or flask. cry? laugh? probably fall in love and then feel guilty about it
  9. i think all 'entertainment' related merchandise is generally priced at a retarded rate. but on top of that, i think her shirts are pricier due to the cost of screening those particular 'all-over' prints. they obviously use up more ink, and require a more precise process to get the actual photographs (as opposed to a simple graphic) across the entire body of the shirt. its a pretty cool idea, not something i've seen from other artists. usually similar photographic prints are done by designers like christopher kane, and can cost upwards of $300
  10. she is almost always covered up, and people still criticize her for being 'too sexy'. can't imagine her with big huge titties that'd be weird tbh, she could be fucking concave and her face would still make up for it
  11. i'm so happy that she's consistently booking legitimately major fashion spreads; large ones at that. what is this, like 7 pages? despite the fact that i hate the new saint laurent, she still manages to make this my favorite:
  12. looks like he's about to lose a load right then and there. love it its funny looking at candids of lana cause whenever there are men in the vicinity, there's always this subtle, animalistic look in their eyes. case in point: well, this one isn't particularly subtle
  13. um, her fashion is fucking sublime. she doesn't always look perfect (which is a good thing) but there are always strange little details, like fabrics you can pet, or slippers you can steal from a lounge -- but it's always very her. it's called personal style, which is something you can't buy off the rack also, (southern) california isn't representative of the 49 other states, honey
  14. i read this as 'lana covers time magazine' and my brain twitched for a second
  15. ummm the people in the front row aren't supposed to look better than the models also, these pictures may have just pushed me back a digit on the kinsey scale
  16. candid photo ends up being on the cover of a (style) magazine (in italy, no less) no wonder people hate her
  17. and by the looks of her arm, she also likes the chateau marmont
  18. hopefully this is photoshopped. as if 'nabakov' and 'whitman' weren't bad enough already. you're not supposed to be so literal, lana!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  19. reminds me of the part of the song where she talks about wanting to like, be dead and shit lol not
  20. she is flawless. and i know this about her because i also know that she could sit down, double click on iMovie, and make something much better than this without spending a single fucking dime
  21. i dunno how to explain my disdain, really, it's just an intuitive thing i suppose. like yea, she always looks a bit awkward, but that's because she's just straight up awkward. but there's always a seriously endearing quality about lana that seems to be missing in this video. i can almost see the wheels turning (ha) in her head, like she's trying so hard to physically manifest her idea of how a sexually languid performer would move around on stage (or a pole). i guess if you think about it like that, it's kind of adorable, but still, my opinion still remains. (now i'm imagining her practicing those moves in front of a mirror, like a girl practicing for her recital) what i meant by 'lesser artists', is that, all of the images seem as if they've been lazily spliced together by some 'creatives' on contract at jaguar. none of them are particularly evocative or stunning, they're just grainy. i don't think lana would have chosen them for her own videos. maybe t. swift would have? i mean, the bloody rose, lol BRITE LITES >>>>>>>>>> THIS
  22. this may be an unpopular opinion, but to me, this video is shit. contrived, pseudo-arty shit. she looks gorgeous, obviously, but she also looks as if she's trying way too hard to look 'sultry'. she's sexier when she's not trying. those moves, the clips, the editing, everything here should be reserved for lesser artists (or... quintessential 'pop stars') not blaming her though, i'm assuming this was jaguar's direction
  23. good lord, i need this one in HQ. so fucking ethereal, its almost unreal
