  1. Are we sure this wasn’t the video of her performing Boarding School at CMJ?
  2. Especially after listening to the demo again, I feel like these lines are definitely "Cadillac convertible we're in All shy at two A.M."
  3. whewwwww that 4th one hits SO different I need it also omg Rich is finally coming...........i WIN
  4. While I’m not 100% if that’s what she’s saying, if it is, it’s probably like all the ‘dance craze’ songs of the 1950s/60s: “do the mashed potato”, “do the Watusi”, etc. Kinda like how she says “do the South Beach Swing”
  5. Y’all are making me so nostalgic My beginnings with Lana are kind of fuzzy, but I can place the start in the first quarter of 2012: I was in 5th grade (!!!), and it was before we moved to another town in the summer of that year. I vividly remember listening to Off to the Races on my little MP3 player while I swung on my tire swing in the front yard (Ride WHO) — I have absolutely no clue how I discovered it, but it was most definitely love at first listen! As a kid who was hung up on listening to 60’s girl groups, something about the music made sense to me — mixing the retro melodrama of the Shangri-Las with shades of modern pop beats and sensibilities was like bridging the worlds inside of me and outside of me. As much as I absolutely adored OTTR, the only other tracks I seem to remember stumbling across were Get Drunk and Kill Kill, either of which I also have no idea how I found — but I guess I’ve been a Lizzy stan since day 1! Regardless, excepting OTTR, which remained a constant in my library, I lost track of Lana for a couple years. I recall being aware of (but unimpressed with) the Summertime Sadness remix, although I don’t think I realized it was her — all I knew was that I thought she sang “sizzling like a snail”, because my best friend and I laughed over it when we heard it on the radio in our middle school cafeteria Then, somewhere around the middle of 2014 or so, I started really expanding my music tastes, and I wanted to hear more of wherever OTTR came from, as it’d been a favorite for two years — thus, I heard BTD, and Radio (which I kinda hate now lmao) turned me into a full-fledged stan! I caught up as fast as I could, and by the time Honeymoon was announced, I was hooked enough to be thrilled about a new album — sometime in that hype, I joined here! I think, though, waiting anxiously for the BBC radio premiere of Salvatore was the moment I realized how much a fan I was (and that song remains a favorite, as does OTTR, which is still second place ONLY to Put Me in a Movie!!!!) The only artist I’ve been a fan of for longer than Lana (if we’re counting from when I discovered them) is Janelle Monae, who beat Lana by a year — but I think Lana is still my #1, even though I can’t stand her sometimes The music still slaps after 8 years, tho!
  6. Rewatching these today after class and submitting my rankings, hope it’s not too late
  7. hi @@admin / any mods would y'all please help me fix the formatting of the OP? it's going nuts and saying it doesn't support the image extension even when I remove the image or change it
  8. Do we know anything about Studio 356? The January/February 2007 sessions that produced versions of Disco/OSCYS/Let My Hair Down/FKP2/Get Drunk/RMU were allegedly recorded there with members of the Phenomena, but I've never heard any whisperings of where this was -- and a cursory Google search reveals nothing.
  9. I don’t think DCMA deserves the bottom — Lana’s verse is pretty nice even if the rest isn’t — but I deadass can’t remember what GSOYB or Woman sound like And DLMBM is the most draggy, pitiful excuse for a track in her catalog!!!! Hate her, she sucked the life out of that song
  10. I wasn’t here to celebrate 10 years of AKA yesterday, but you all best believe I gave her a listen (for the record, Put Me in a Movie STAYS my favorite Lana song, period) I still love this album SO much — it doesn’t matter how much my tastes change; there will always be something incredibly magical embedded into this record. I’m a huge fan of the music Lana is putting out now, but something sets AKA apart — there’s such an honesty and sense of hope and promise and excitement that shines out from it, that you just can’t recapture. It’s a totally singular voice and I hope one day it gets the recognition it so sorely deserves — there is truly not another album like it, by Lana or anyone else. Hopefully, today or in the next few days, I’ll update and fix up the OP. It’s what she deserves (She also deserved a birthday leak, buuuuut )
  11. I think Stevie has an unusually large amount of demos that have circulated, in comparison to other artists at the time — I know I read an interview with Stevie about the 24 Karat Gold album, where she said she didn’t even remember/know some of those demos were circulating until her assistant pulled them up on YouTube to show her! It reminds me so much of Lana’s unreleased situation, and I can’t help but imagine that the two of them might’ve discussed it. Here’s one of my absolute favorite Stevie demos — it’s totally supplanted the released version for me: https://youtu.be/uyuo-_0A0y0
  12. @@PARADIXO bby I promise I'm not trying to rush u I'm just excited to know the results
  13. I think there’s some debate over how much of Garden of Shadows was written by VC, and the ghostwriter has confirmed that he wrote almost all of it based on some really early outlines VC left. I started it and could tell a difference I didn’t like, so I ditched it, but don’t let that stop you from trying it out!! And, I’m pretty sure her ghostwriter had the permission of the family/publisher to keep up the VC Andrews brand by writing under her name, but he’s still cranking out new series and sequels constantly, and I can’t help but think there’s a dip in quality just so they can keep making money ://///
  14. LOVE these books They manage to be over-the-top gothic soap opera fodder without losing any emotional punch, which is a pretty amazing feat, imo. My Sweet Audrina is an amazing standalone novel by Andrews that I love more than Flowers in the Attic some days — you should check it out if you like this series! Be careful, though, because anything besides the first four Flowers books, My Sweet Audrina, and the first two Heaven books are by a ghostwriter working under Andrews’ name, and they’re not nearly as balanced and good as the stuff she wrote :/
  15. Last song of 2019: So Good (Honeymoun Mix) - Lana First song of 2020: Egyptian Shumba - The Tammys
  16. I wanna eventually do a retrospective rating for Lana’s 2000’s music too
  17. I think that’s generally assumed to be another name/reference to Pin Up Galore
  18. thank you totally forgot how badly i needed these also totally got chills bc in Me and My Boyfriend she sings "Marilyn" several times the exact same way she does in the live performance of the song "Marilyn".... beginning to think she scrapped that song and folded that part of it into Me and My Boyfriend also, here's all the original snippets on Picosong, in case any are missing up there -- if you want to grab these, do it before Pico goes down in a few days!!:
