Hi all! I'm undertaking a new Lana-related project, and I'd love your help and support. I'm a huge fan of the blog Pushing Ahead of the Dame, which, song-by-song, catalogs the discography of David Bowie. The book The Complete David Bowie by Nicholas Pegg performs a similar function, and also includes entries on songs performed live by Bowie and songs connected to him in other ways. Both of these publications got me thinking about doing something similar for Lana: analyzing each and every song recorded, performed, or written by Lana in public knowledge. Lanapedia does this to some degree, but I want to offer my own take on it, and present these entries in a more casually readable and entertaining way than the Wiki can. It's become my little pet project, and I've been trying to get it underway for a while now. These entries will detail, as far as can be ascertained, the writing/recording process, Lana's possible inspirations for each track, histories of their different versions, and more. However, the project will be much more successful with your help! I've been able to glean so much valuable information from the Wiki and from Lanaboards itself, but the fact of the matter is that some members here have extensive Lana knowledge that I can't hope to replicate all on my own -- so, if you'd like to help with this project, please feel free to write here or PM me! Especially needed are those who have been fans since early on in Lana's career, including those who were active on the prolific LDR.FM -- firsthand accounts of early leaks and the trajectory of Lana's career would be indispensable. Again, if you'd like to help out, just PM me, and I'll be happy to send you sample entries as they stand, and discuss where assistance is needed. Thanks so much, y'all, and I can't wait to see how this project goes!

idk it seems like almost every star these days has some problematic belief or practice and i'm tired of worrying abt it i know it's dismissive but as long as the music doesn't suffer -- the only reason this is even a blip on my radar -- I'll live #LetNFRBeGoodPlease -
okay I think I'm abt to STAN my friends were rly into her when don't smile at me came out but based on her persona I thought she was a rapper and didn't look into her but then i heard COPYCAT and was amazed so ive slowly been getting into her music and bury a friend just SEALED the DEAL i love this experimental creepy sound and tbh the galloping beat + whisper vocals gives me Brite Lites vibes

Create an Unreleased Lana Album/Playlist

@@SitarHero my love how is the iTunes library looking these days -
I've got a relatively decent collection, but it's mostly lower-quality tracks because I didn't include anything officially released as bonus tracks or whatever

Speculation: Piano Theme, Morricone, & I Talk To Jesus
sparklrtrailrheaven replied to Veinsineon's topic in Lana Thoughts
the terminology question always stresses me tbh bc I want to use what's most technically "correct" but I also have solid notions of what's what basically, for convenience, I call anything a "demo" that's a) a different version of an officially released track created *prior to* the officially released version (i still classify marginally different in-progress mixes as "early mixes" though, if it's essentially the same as the final product with tiny differences) b) for tracks that have no official release, i use "demo" to refer to any track that was self-recorded before making it to the studio as for unreleased songs with multiple studio versions, they just become "version 1/v.1", "version 2/v.2", etc. not saying this is correct by any means but I think it's a fairly efficient and clear way to organize this stuff -

i know for sure there is one but idk what it's called -
I am BEYOND ready for that anniversary

this whole song makes me melt but especially "i don't wanna be bad, i won't cheat you no more"

i feel like all of us here are pulling out those "where were you" moments people usually bring up when discussing some historical event -- which, in all fairness, this absolutely is i was 11 at the time, turning 12 a month later -- I didn't hardcore stan yet, but I was definitely aware of LDR at the time, because I remember hearing OTTR, being absolutely in awe, and coming up nearly empty-handed when trying to find more music by her (although, I feel like there was already some unreleased floating around by that point -- I'm almost sure I heard Kill Kill then, and Lizzy Grant stan I am, fell in love with it). anyway, it always blows my mind when people say BTD has aged poorly, because I think it's one of those truly timeless albums. it holds up now even better than it did then, because she was so ahead of the game, and it remains her best work, imo happy birthday, baby

Minor General Questions that Don't Deserve Their Own Thread
sparklrtrailrheaven replied to Monicker's topic in Lana Thoughts
You got it! Although, I think it's been speculated that those parts of the song really were part of a finished, unleaked song that Lizzy spliced together with Trash Magic, making TMIL sort of a guess at what that sounded like. The studio version cuts off early at "motel brass locks", I'm pretty sure. So, you're good to go. -
that looks so pretty -- love that cover!! also how does your iTunes still look like that I miss that layout

Just so you know, the unreleased Body Language isn't related at all to the one on Isolation. The only thing they have in common is the name
-
That was so great, omg! I'm gonna listen to this so often tbh
-
I had no idea she felt that way! That's a shame, because so much of her old stuff is so amazing -- like, I bet she practically disowns Drunken Babble now, but it's such a great and unique mixtape. I would still kill to hear her do Chimichanga live While I doubt a lot of it even still exists, I hope more of the original Por Vida leaks! Rich is one of my favorite tracks by her, ever, and I love the sound the rest of the leaked material had going. Songs like Lost in Paradise could easily be reworked to fit her current sound, too, but I guess she just doesn't have any interest in doing that. On the subject of Isolation, hasn't Flight 22 been around for quite a while? I seem to remember the demo version of that being around a couple years or so before Isolation. I feel like that track is the most Por Vida-esque thing on Isolation (and one of my faves from the record), so it really makes me wonder what the rest of the early Isolation outtakes sound like

Minor General Questions that Don't Deserve Their Own Thread
sparklrtrailrheaven replied to Monicker's topic in Lana Thoughts
As far as I can remember, the person who originally posted it claimed it was most definitely legit (maybe that they even got it firsthand???) and they weren't some inherently disreputable source. So, while there's no way of knowing for sure at the present, I think it's generally accepted as being real. -
Rank pretty much any song Lana has done.
