  1. pretty sure Gerald refers to G-Eazy, the rapper Lana dated at some point (maybe someone else knows when? i couldn't ever keep up with *when* they dated), whose real name is Gerald (and who In My Feelings and White Mustang are ostensibly written about)
  2. while i'm super, super pumped that she's apparently rolling out *any* unreleased, paradise feels like such a strange choice to me that party-girl, pop sound seems so distant from lana's current aesthetic and sound -- i'd even say lizzy-era tracks are closer to what she's currently doing anyway, i'm so excited to hear it!! i'm still gonna hope either for a lizzy-era jam or one of her sweet bops like never let me go or puppy love (or prom song!!!!)
  3. I inadvertently ended 2017 with Resistance (not a bad choice, though), and began 2018 with Love, which just seemed to really fit -- and I see some of you thought the same! <3 Here's hoping 2018 is a year of love for us all -- love for one another, love for life, love for the world, true love, and love for our humanity. We need it more than ever, and I think we have the power to make it a beautiful, happy year.
  4. i'm quaking couldn't have picked a better one myself
  5. if you're still doing this, hit me with a 49 // 6 // 16
  6. i don't recall ever reading this in the lanalysis thread -- in one of the handful of blog posts Chris C did on Lizzy, he shared screenshots of their messages and a poem she commented on: the blog is pretty telling. Chris was married w/kids, but talking to Lizzy and another girl named Sarah online. looks like he ended up meeting Sarah, but never met Lizzy before things dissolved. he also seems to suggest that Lizzy didn't really harbor the same feelings for him that he had for her, and he regarded her as more of a muse than a lover also, sorry if this has already been shared! it was very new to me
  7. My transcriptions are just a *tad* different: Are you feeling lucky tonight? Have you ever seen downtown New Orleans? That's where I'm from That's where I've been. Where I was made, somewhere in between
  8. Love, love, love the interview! I think it always comes through when Lana is comfortable with an interviewer -- nothing felt forced or ill-phrased here, which is always so nice. Such a good balance of a conversational feel, and deeper questions. It's seemed to me that Lana's become much more transparent about her creative process, her emotions, and her past (her musical past, especially!) since the LFL era started, which totally thrills me. Hearing her little quips about old songs (All Smiles!!!!!!) has been so neat, and really getting into her head and her heart when it comes to writing the album has made me enjoy LFL so much more! It's like we're finally getting to peek behind the curtain that separates Lana Del Rey from Elizabeth Grant... and, yet, she still hasn't (and probably won't ever) given *all* the mystery away (also: not a huge fan of the cover choice? something about that pic looks *off* to me. the one of her on the road and the one in the white dress are much prettier and much more flattering, imo)
  9. Thanks, Elle! What do you mean by "a later version"? I was under the impression that we only had one version of this song.
  10. Love: 9 Lust For Life: 6 13 Beaches: 7 Cherry: 9 White Mustang: 4 Summer Bummer: 6 Groupie Love: 7 In My Feelings: 5 Coachella - Woodstock In My Mind: 8 God Bless America- And All The Beautiful Women In It: 7 When The World Was At War We Kept Dancing: 8 Beautiful People Beautiful Problems: 10 Tomorrow Never Came: 10 Heroin: 7 Change: 10 Get Free: 11 it should be noted that i really, really love all the tracks on this album, so it's difficult for me to give any of them a low rating
  11. finally she's crossing the threshold from the old setlist to a decent one i really like this setlist, especially with the additions of DMD and PWYC -- hoping that by the time the tour rolls around, she'll have freshened the set up even more, and we'll get something especially exciting and new, after what feels like decades of Cruel World and like half of BtD (hey lana if you read this, why don't you hit us w a Lizzy Grant track at the show?? <333333 if homegirl comes through with Serial Killer, it's quiet for her. if homegirl comes through with WAYAMAYA, homegirl's gonna, like... get it)
  12. So, I finally got to see Kali live! On Monday, I saw her at the Cat's Cradle-- a small bar/venue in Carrboro, NC. It was a fantastic show, and I thought I'd give a little review, since no one else has said much about her shows lately. (This will probably sound a little incoherent and jumbled, so I hope it all makes sense ) For one, the attendance for the gig was much higher than I expected-- it was sold out, and I felt pretty glad I'd already bought tickets back when they were announced. I really didn't anticipate there being so many strong Kali stans in the area, but boy, was I wrong! Due to the seating (well, lack thereof) being a first-come first-serve type setup, my friend and I weren't *right* in front of the stage, but fairly close. Phony Ppl went on to open for Kali-- I had no idea what to expect, as I hadn't looked into them prior to the show. Let me say, they were worth the price of admission alone! They're incredible performers-- they're musically gifted, but they also have amazing stage presence and were a lot of fun when interacting with the audience. Even with practically no stage setup-- just lighting-- their set was dreamy, funky, and really sucked me right into their music. They're not huge yet, but they deserve to be-- their lyrics are smart, deeply emotionally affecting, and catchy; and their sound is extremely interesting-- for one, they sound better live than on their studio recordings, imo-- and their style, while based in R&B/rap, has inflections and distillations of all sorts of genre-- some of their guitar/drum work sounded vaguely power-rock/metal influenced, while some of the keyboards brought 70s/80s prog rock to mind. It makes for a really unique listening experience, especially since they serve as Kali's backing band, too. I really can't recommend them highly enough! Kali took what felt like *forever* to come on, but it was entirely worth it. The stage was pretty sparse-- she had a couple ferns, her flowered microphone stand, and a small set of stairs positioned at center stage. Her entrance was amazing: as the opening hums from Sycamore Tree played over the speakers, she appeared at the top of the stairs, and descended as she began the song. She looked like a goddess, no lie-- she'd just cut her hair into a really cute curly bob before the show, and was wearing this lacy white minidress and white go-go boots-- a LOOK super cool how Kali Uchis turned me straight Anyway, she was adorable (especially when speaking to the crowd-- I could only hear a fraction of what she was saying, because the crowd kept SCREAMING-- including when she started throwing her sweat rags to the crowd at different points, and it legit looked like the gays were gonna riot one sis actually got punched in the nose for one of them), and seemed to be having a lot of fun, (especially with her dancing!) which was great, especially since I've seen concert videos where she seems much less enthused. Her energy carried over into her voice as well-- totally top-notch, and sis was turning the songs OUT. My only disappointment was that she didn't play any yet-to-be-released songs from the new album, despite saying she would at the beginning of the show-- I can forgive her, though I can't remember what order the setlist was in, but I do remember all the songs she played: - from Drunken Babble: What They Say (i'm just a little pressed that she didn't open w/Chimichanga like she has at some other shows, because that's one of my absolute favorites) - from Por Vida: Sycamore Tree, Know What I Want, Rush, Ridin Round, Speed, Loner - from Fool's Paradise: Tyrant, Nuestro Planeta - Collabs: See You Again - Covers: Let's Stay Together (Al Green), Sabor a Mi, Suavemente (played as her encore) Definitely my favorite of the night was Ridin Round, which was the main set closer, I think-- the backing band brought that vague heavy metal-esque instrumentation to it, and hammered the HELL out of it. It totally morphed from the album/reworked version as a flighty hip-hop track, to a thumping, aggressive queen-bitch-anthem. Y'all better believe we ALL screamed the "WHAT THE FUCK YOU WAITING FOR?!" part and it was liberating Anyway, I could go on forever, but it was a FANTASTIC show. I can't wait to see Kali again in January with Lana, and I can't wait to hear more from Phony Ppl!
  13. That similarity seems so awfully close to just be coincidence-- any chance that this could be a rework of TYWIG? That'd be super cool to hear!
  14. Even if this is something small, I absolutely love that you took the time to do it! It's kind of surreal to see the page as it would've looked if it were still live. As for the debatable pictures/words, I feel as if the hyperlink is either one of the two phrases you mentioned, or, "Good Man", as used in "Gramma", although it was written much later. It also likely has no bearing (don't know if Lana's ever professed to being a fan), but I knew "God & Man" reminded me of a song-- the phrase appears pretty heavily through David Bowie's "Modern Love". I figure that nothing is too much of a stretch with Lana, lol. On the subject of "Modern Love" and Lana, allow me to go on a tangent for a sec-- I noticed this lyric in the song: "I catch a paper boy... I'm standing in the wind" which immediately brought to mind "Fordham Road": "I catch a dollar in the wind"-- which was ostensibly written around the time of lizzigrant.com.... really, really tangential but worth throwing out there, I guess, lmao Concerning the other photo, I can't tell if it's "To" or "The", and I'm unsure if it's a "C" or "O" that begins that next word. I'm extremely puzzled on that one. Anyway, great job! I appreciate this project a lot .
  15. i don't think so, like... there's a lot of foreign-language songs i dig, and i can even understand a bit of this idk it sounds so hipster and elitist of me but i think the fact that it sounds so radio-friendly and mainstream bothers me-- like Drunken Babble and Por Vida both have really their quirks about them and they're so distinctive, and i think this song worries me that her music is going to end up losing its unique edge.... it bothers me that this is not a song that would not catch my attention if it were by anyone else but slay a lot if y'all are bopping to it!! it may grow on me, and either way, imma keep supporting sis Kali
  16. I'm a little bit underwhelmed/not in love with this track??? It's not bad, but not really hitting me, either.......... but, then again, I didn't love all the LFL singles when they came out, so
  17. praying, hoping, wishing for a NC date
  18. king!! thank you so much for sharing i haven't been able to fully listen yet, but i'm sure they're great tracks <33333
  19. God Bless America was also an early title for AKA, as evidenced by an article in a Lake Placid paper. I'll find the link later
