Because the last I checked... two people consenting to portraying rape on film is NOT the same as rape occurring in real life and in no way immediately implies the endorsement OF rape from either party....

Have we really gotten to a place in culture where we cannot even show rape in film and have a DIALOGUE about it? Because if so, we are NO better off than we were in the 50s when there was no space in culture to address issues like this.  Art and media is a space where artists are supposed to be encouraged to portray the struggles of our life.... I'm confused by the offense people are taking with this. Did this 29 second clip in ANY way imply that what was occurring was okay? 

Also... This is not a REAL rape.

Also also... rape in film SHOULD make you uncomfortable. That is okay. That is normal. 

The only thing disturbing is people on Tumblr captioning gifs and edits of a rape scene with Lana's questionable lyrics. 

This video is supposed to be disturbing in the way that a film about a character being raped gets under your skin. Neither is advocating for rape, but rather portraying a story. Lana's lyrics about women who are in emotionally and physically volatile relationships exist as sonic portrayals of this kind of documentation, which is why I'm surprised at these reactions. True anti-feminism exists in the inability for a woman to tell a story, no matter how excruciating, without being labeled as an advocate for the mistreatment for women.

It doesn't matter whose name was put in the song - it's disgusting any way. He is glorifying domestic violence and essentially making a mockery of the pain the Janae Rice has experienced personally. It's not a "joke."

I have a problem with it because it doesn't matter what his meaning behind it is, if he is trolling or not. There are a lot of people out there who here such things daily and it becomes normal to say such things.
so yes I think we are allowed to be angry about this. Because it doesn't matter if it is just a joke or not directed to her album or whatever. violence against women is real enough. and if people especially the onces who have such an influence on a lot of people, keep making this normal to say such things it just keeps creating a place where it is normal to look down on woman.

And about lana singing about violence against her. Its always personal. she is always singing about herself. never a widespread message about women in general. and she never attacks the men she is singing about. She sings about what she feels, how they make her feel, but nothing more.

He used to call me D.N, that stood for destructive nymphomaniac. 

Her PR firm specifically said she announced two LA dates for Ultraviolence. So that makes me think she will perform the album.
 
I'll be there on the 18th! 

So I was browsing through a ton of Lana's old tweets and I decided to do some researching.. I was just curious about some and I wanted to find out if she had written them or if they were quotes, references, etc.
I stumbled across this website: http://disembodiedpoetics.com.
If you look through the poems on there dated between 2009-10, a LOT of it corresponds with Lana's 2010/2011 tweets (on her current acc). I'm just wondering if anyone could analyze this further.
 
One thing that jumped out to me was this:
I was just reading a ton of the poems and noting which ones Lana tweeted, when I saw a poem titled "you have to take me right now." Of course I thought of Yayo.
A few poems later and I see this one:

This poem (which is well worth the read btw) includes the line: "You put on a show for me," which also reminded me of Yayo, especially considering the previous reference. I read through the whole poem and when I got to the bottom there's a comment that says "This one is my favorite." written by Liz, dated 5 years ago. Thoughts?

Lana hasn't been around long enough to be an "icon," sorry. REAL icons would be MJ, Madonna, Britney Spears, James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, people like that who have been around for a while. People who've made HUGE impacts in their area of fame for extended periods of time. People who are well known across the world. Stuff like that. If Lana remains relevant (an important factor in icon status) for like 10+ more years and greatly influences music or fashion or something, then maybe yes. But you're not an icon 3 years into fame. Sorry.

Can people stop blowing this situation out of proportion

Use the original version of Diet Mtn Dew rather than that god awful one they decided to put on the album.
