omg u dont mean to start a fight but u decided to quote an old post after they've apologized to do nothing but personally insult somebody, without actually saying ur insults so u dont get a WP,  WTF LOL

I see no apology from him anywhere nor any personal insults in that post.

An apology will never change the fact that he did it, boasted about it, and is arrogant enough to show up a day later and start schooling everyone on South American politics. "WTF LOL" indeed.

More than happy to take a wp for calling this fucker (there's the insult you were looking for) out. Elle literally just spent hours updating this site, numerous users donated, and you're supporting someone who tried to undermine all of it. Such a good look sis. Solid.

Back to the topic at hand, though.

As for South America, socialism is working out really well for South America. Venezuela is essentially a failed state. Bolivia is a mess. Brazil is in really bad shape. Now I know Lana has a ton of fans in Latin America yet the come on here and complain about America. If they hate America so much why do they embrace Lana who is an American and is certainly not a socialist? If America is so evil, then why does the rest of the world listen to our music, watch our movies etc?

As for Europe, I have family there and none of them are socialist.

The fact that someone on here just identified themself as a Marxist-Leninist speaks volume.

So if most of the people on here are not even American, do they have any business saying that we shouldn’t vote? And if so many on here are from South America (which is in really bad shape) maybe just maybe they should worry about their own countries and fix their own countries. If they do that then maybe America won’t have to do it for them. I really don’t want us to have to invade Venezuela. Frankly we don’t have the time and money for it.

It's called imperialism.

About the discussion on "socialism" and South America, as a southamerican myself, will ask you to PLEASE educate yourself a bit on the matter. Quite unsensitive by yourself to talk that easily about realities that concern the lives of millions and which you dont know anything about, it shows. I saw you made some comment about "not wanting US to have to invade Venezuela". Please, man. Read a bit about the role your country has had regarding the state of all of the southcone, also centroamerican countries. Read about international law and how invading any country isn't a matter of another one "having to", but something that's legally prohibited and therefore, a crime.

Your statements are absolutely offensive and uninformed, even if I get you dont come from bad intentions and understand it, but words are truly important and you may get a lot of people pissed with no need for it.

And personally, I don’t believe Biden’s gonna have a landslide win. I think it will be as close as 278 vs 260 Biden to Trump; giving Trump supporters all that much more motivation to dispute the results.

At the end of the day, the Supreme Court will never allow it; even w a conservative majority. Gore Vs Bush is precedent. But, the scars left on our democracy by Trump’s supporters and their “twitter civil war” will be felt for a long time—until the GOP can completely rebuild its image.

Also a tie is a very big possibility. If Biden carries every state that HRC carried in 2016, but flips Michigan and Pennsylvania, along with Nebraska’s 2nd district (which Obama carried in 12), it will be 269 to 269.

Ties go to The House of Representatives which is unlikely to be retaken by Republicans as there has been a party re-alignment in the Suburbs in the democrats favor. However all of that is moot as Faithless Electors are more likely than The House of Representatives getting a vote. Some electors voting against their state happened in 2016.That swaying a victory to either column is likelier than an actual tie

Yes i def think biden will win a tie, however it will inflame the Trump supporters and a huge portion of the GOP a lot more than a narrow Biden electoral win

I don't think a tie is particularly likely. I think the margin will probably the same as 2016 just the parties flipped. If Biden manages to win Florida or Wisconsin then he definitely won Michigan and Pennsylvania as both those states were closer in 2016 and he is polling well there. That said, as a Floridian, anybody who tells you they know for sure how Florida will vote is wrong. Are polls are frequently off, it's always close, and factors like bad ballot design in counties (2018) can absolutely change the results of an election.

the others already dragged you but I'm still gonna respond

I never said socialism is working wonderfully in L.A. I had a co-worker who had to move from Venezuela to Panama and later here to FL because his family were anti-socialist and the government wanted them jailed. All I said is that people from EU and L.A have been leaning more far left, so dont be surprised that a global forum has members in those ideologies and expressing their opinion.

Also Brazil is in a mess because it wants to model itself after us ironically, by electing Trumpete-like leaders.

Also, as @sjatib said, who was the one who stirred the mess in those countries you mentioned? Americas imperialism is active 24/7 in MY place of birth, Puerto Rico. Stupid political and economic legislations, restrictions and decisions made by Congress in Washington DC are the reason PR is now a pit hole and over 1 million people have left. Let me not play victim here because  the local government is corrupt as well, but the US created the perfect environment for this to happen. The island has voted over and over to try and be a state and Congres says "Yall hear summ??"

its really funny to tell Europeans and Latin Americans' to hold no opinion over our politics when they have flighted next to our soldiers in WW1, WW2, Vietnam, and all the middle east wars. Or did you forget that surprisingly, the US has Allies in both continents that help us supply our (rather ridiculous) wars???

and congratulations that no one in your family is socialist. Puerto Rico is catholic and only 30% of my family practices it

You say people shouldn't be in our business but we are literally in everyone's business. We have toppled functioning governments to fund the military industrial complex, we have embassies everywhere, and are always giving opinions to political discussions that we half-ass know about. You said that Latin Americans should fix their own countries. Yeah I'm pretty sure they tried to and those people are either refugees, jailed or dead. The rest of the population that cant fight either succumbs or flees.

I have taken two political ideologies classes and realized that people being in these far right/left ideologies is inevitable. People can have such contrasting experiences in the same environment. it is literally human nature. its up to the individual to know if that is what they truly believe in.

I love this country and I am blessed to say that I have been able to succeed in life because of the way things works here, but I can't sit here and lie and say that we are angels. We have done some goofy ass shit to not only our own people but the rest of the world. The US needs to stop meddling unless they're doing it for the good of others. For example, Lets not be hypocritical of places such as Japan for being racists towards black people when we hold the championship title for that. :nono:

Everyone should write in Gloria La Riva and Sunil Freeman in November 2020.

★ 1 |  Make the essentials of life into constitutional rights

The U.S. has more than enough so that all the essentials of life — food, housing, water, education, health care and a job or basic income can be guaranteed rights — rather than distributed only for profit. Create a completely free and public healthcare system. Make education free—cancel all student debt. Fully fund rebuilding of the infrastructure in transport, water and utility systems. Stop all foreclosures and evictions. End all discrimination based on ability/disability.

★ 2 |  For the Earth to live, capitalism must be replaced by a socialist system

Global warming, pollution, acidified and depleted oceans, fracking, critical drought, plastics choking the seas, nuclear weapons and waste — it is clear that capitalism and production for profit are destroying the planet and threatening all life. The crisis is already here, with the most vulnerable and oppressed areas of the U.S. and Global South bearing the brunt. Using truly sustainable energy and seizing the oil and coal companies to stop fossil fuel pollution, are urgent steps needed to reverse climate change. Ultimately, only the socialist reorganization of society can assure the future of the people and the planet.

★ 3 |  End racism, police brutality, mass incarceration-Pay reparations to the African American community

Mass incarceration and racist policing are symptomatic of the 400 years of brutal repression meted out to African-descended peoples in the U.S. and the genocide committed against the Native nations. Reparations must be paid to the African American and Native communities! More than 2.2 million people are behind bars in the largest prison complex in the world. End mass incarceration of oppressed and all working class people. Fully prosecute all acts of police brutality and violence. Free Leonard Peltier, Mumia Abu-Jamal and all political prisoners!

★ 4 |  Full rights for all immigrants

Abolish all anti-immigrant laws. Stop the raids and deportations and demonization of immigrants. Shut down ICE and the concentration camps and reunite families. The government’s war on immigrants must end. The border wall must be dismantled. Amnesty and citizenship for those without documents. Full rights for all!

★ 5 |  Shut down all U.S. military bases around the world—bring all the troops, planes & ships home

U.S. foreign policy uses the pretext of national security to enforce the imperialist interests of the biggest banks and corporations. That is what is behind the endless wars and occupations. Use the $1 trillion military budget instead to provide for people’s needs here and worldwide. Abolish nuclear weapons. Stop U.S. aid to Israel. Self-determination for the Palestinian people, including the right of return. End the U.S. blockade of Cuba and sanctions against Venezuela, Iran and all countries. Independence for Puerto Rico and cancel its debt!

★ 6 |  Honor Native treaties. Free Leonard Peltier now

Both major parties have continued to allow the destruction of Native lands by mining and corporate agricultural interests in blatant disregard of indigenous sovereign rights. 33% of Native children live in poverty and many of America's poorest counties are reservations. The crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous women and the over-incarceration of Native peoples shows the bankruptcy of capitalism from its earliest inception in the Americas until today.

★ 7 |  Full equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people

Fight back against anti-LGBTQ discrimination and violence. Defend marriage equality. Full equality in all matters governed by civil law, including employment, housing, healthcare and education. No to “religious exemption” laws that allow discrimination against LGBTQ people!

★ 8 |  Equality for women and free, safe, legal abortion on demand

Stop the attack on women’s reproductive rights and defend Roe v. Wade. Women must have the fundamental right to choose & control their own bodies. Women still earn 22 percent less than men, and the gap is even more severe for Black and Latina women. Close the wage gap and end the gender division of labor.

★ 9 |  Defend and expand our unions

Support the right of all workers to have a union. Fight back against the attacks on collective bargaining. Require employers to recognize card check union votes. Repeal the Taft-Hartley Act. Focusing on low-wage worker organizing, rebuild a fighting labor movement.

★ 10 |  Takeover the stolen wealth of the giant banks and corporations – Jail Wall St. criminals

The vast wealth of the giant banks and corporations is created by workers labor and the exploitation of the world’s diminishing natural resources. The billionaires looted and destroyed the economy. It is time to seize their assets and use those resources in the interests of the vast majority. Power must be taken out of the hands of the super rich, and Wall Street criminals must be jailed.

While all those things outlined above are amazing and I can only hope we have them in our country in the near future, this is not the election to write in a candidate. Too much is at stake, and while Biden may not be the perfect answer to many of our problems right now, he will at least set-up a future where such things are possible (as opposed to Trump, who may perhaps set humanity back as bad as the burning of the Library of Alexandria).

Also, lets not get cocky about Biden's winning streak in the polls---Dukakis lead Bush by 17 points in the summer of 1988, but Bush ended up beating him in November 426-111

Everyone says that every single election. It's never the time for people to vote their conscience, never the time for people to vote who they want, never the time to demand progressive things, etc. etc. etc.

Biden isn't the answer to anything. He will not "set up a future where such things are possible" bc when Obama and Biden had a supermajority, they completely squandered it. I do not trust him to do anything positive. He's only a placeholder.

third party votes wont matter until party one and two collapse... hopefully that happens in this decade LOL

---

so i watched the DNC.. the whole week, and it was corny as hell but it was surprisingly ok. I learned about Biden last week than the last 10 years. And Kamala is more human than the media portrays her to be.  Thursday night was the best with Julia Louis Dreyfus, who made it more alive with comedy.

thankfully i wont be watching the Republican NC as i rather watch a wall dry so here is a clip of whats happening right now

Melania Trump actually killed it in her speech tonight. The use of the Rose Garden (though borderline unethical, as govt resources shouldn't be used as campaign props) and having a live crowd gave the illusion that the pandemic is over and the economy has already recovered. I hope everyone jammed together in that audience was tested...but whoever planned this speech (wether it was Melania's own East Wing team, or the Campaign) really hit the nail on the head.

Spoiler

I wish Melania was First Lady to literally any president other than Trump, for I really do admire her (she reminds me of my own mother in a lot of way, and not just bc they're both Eastern European immigrants who married older wealthier men)

Also that speech sounded more like Melania was announcing her own candidacy, than endorsing her husband lol

Idk if anyone other than me checks this thread but, just to keep everything up to date:

As the RNC heads into its final night, Trump closes in on Biden in betting markets—over fears that Postal Ballots will not be properly counted for.
The GOP has refused to write a new party platform—instead using the 2016 platform.
Trump has vowed to defund mail-in-voting because he believes it will lead to election rigging at a massive scale.

Spoiler

There goes my dreams of moving back to the US, if Trump wins...

For anyone still following the general election: 55 days until polls close. Swing states of PA, WI, MI, and AZ don't begin counting ballots until after polls close, so we may see a Trump lead early on Nov. 3, but in a few days the states all tip to Biden. FiveThirtyEight places Biden at a 70% chance of winning the Presidency, with 334 electoral votes (see map in spoiler).

If you are voting by mail, pls drop off ur ballot ASAP (don't rely on the postage system, drop it off yourself if you can). For dual citizens living outside of the US currently (like me!), you should receive your ballot by the end of this month (I believe) and it pls send it back to the US by mid-October. Also make sure you're mail-in-ballot is properly filled out and signed, so in the event of a recount, the Trump admin cannot disqualify it!. Cheers everyone!
