Summertime Sadness

Recommended Posts

Kiss me hard before you go
Summertime sadness
I just wanted you to know
That baby you're the best

I've got my red dress on tonight
Dancing in the dark in the pale moonlight
Done my hair up real big, beauty queen-style
High heels off, I'm feeling alive

Oh, my god, I feel it in the air
Telephone wires above are sizzlin' like a snare
Honey, I'm on fire, I feel it everywhere
Nothing scares me anymore

(2-3-4)

Kiss me hard before you go
Summertime sadness
I just wanted you to know
That baby you're the best

I've got that summertime, summertime sadness
S-Summertime, summertime sadness
Got that summertime, summertime sadness
Oh, oh

I'm feeling electric tonight
Cruising down the coast going 'bout 99
Got my bad baby by my heavenly side
I know if I go I'll die happy tonight

Oh, my god, I feel it in the air
Telephone wires above are sizzlin' like a snare
Honey, I'm on fire, I feel it everywhere
Nothing scares me anymore

(2-3-4)

Kiss me hard before you go
Summertime sadness
I just wanted you to know
That baby you're the best

I've got that summertime, summertime sadness
S-Summertime, summertime sadness
Got that summertime, summertime sadness
Oh, oh

I think I'll miss you forever
Like the stars miss the sun in the morning skies
Late is better than never
Even if you're gone, I'm gonna drive, drive

I've got that summertime, summertime sadness
S-s-summertime, summertime sadness
Got that summertime, summertime sadness
Oh, oh

Kiss me hard before you go
Summertime sadness
I just wanted you to know
That baby you're the best

I've got that summertime, summertime sadness
S-s-summertime, summertime sadness
Got that summertime, summertime sadness
Oh, oh

My friend told me the song is about Lana's friend who died.

Does anyone know where or when Lana said this? Because my friend told me he read it in some interview...

I think, if anything, DP would more likely be written about someone that has died

I also heard it was about her friend who died... And well, IMHO DP is about her romantic love to someone who died - she's unable to move on and to tell the difference between the reality and her dream. "Summertime Sadness" is caused by the loss of a dear friend of hers but she decides to keep living.

And the wind I know it’s cold

Cruising down the coast going 'bout 99

As a Midwesterner accustomed to straight flat freeways, I never batted an eye at the idea of driving 100 mph. But after driving several hours down the California coast on vacation recently, this is pure fantasy. Highway 1 is too winding to drive anywhere near that fast.  :crossed:

Stalking you has sorta become like my occupation.

Funny!

I'm in the midwest and this song has come on while driving ~100mph. It's wonderful

100 Miles an hour is... scary fast. Autobahn fast.

I can't say I've ever gotten up to that but I've definitely got pulled over for 145 km/hr sooo I think that's like 85 M/hr ish?

Oh and only you guys will appreciate this but I totally Born-to-Die'd my car last month. Flipped right the fuck over going down a back road...  I was okay, but my poor Carmen (my little red car) was written off  :icant:

I will never drive fast again. Granny driving from here on out!

"Even if you're gone, I'm gonna drive, drive"

That simple line gets to me every single time.  :crying4:

  • "Lana drives as an act of desperation in order to catch up to him. Yet she knows that she will never be able to drive fast enough in order to turn back time".
  • "Even though Lana’s lover is gone she is just gonna keep driving. She could be driving to forget him. Or that even though he’s not here she’s gonna keep driving like normal, finally starting to let go of him"

We all know that Summertime Sadness remained a shit stain on the fandom and drove a nail between two types of Lana fans. But I feel as though it’s almost been a decade since the alt pop queen really made her mark with summertime sadness, we should probably just admit by now it is one of if not the best song she has ever released. It seriously represents everything Lana Del Rey encompasses as an artist and will always remain her epitome of pop song mending.

It's a really beautiful song and such a BTD classic and honestly I forget the remix exists.
