I remember some youtube comments, when West Coast first came out, suggesting Jefferson Airplane's White Rabbit was some kind of spiritual inspiration for it. I (sort of) see the point.

Also consider the alternative -- "radio mix" -- version of West Coast, sent to German radio (which was probably Nowells produced). It's nice LDR allowed the two versions to co-exist in "released" form.

it is so difficult to identify similar artists/music to lana - she is just so singular and unique. julee cruise's work on her album 'floating into the night' might be closest in terms of atmosphere and production. but i can think of songs that might be able to - either sonically or thematically -  slip into lana's version of "hollywood":

• 'louise' and 'every stupid actress' - TV girl
• 'starlight' - pure X (their whole album 'angel' rly)
• 'under the spell' and 'name on a matchbook' - springtime carnivore
• 'visions of LA' and 'J's heaven' - slowdive

I love how much it's vocal driven with that dreamy spacey melody and ethereal simple instrumental (that sounds like ut was made with only one synth). I don't know how to explain but Neptune by FOALS is giving me Venice Bitch vibes maybe because of long instrumental breakdowns but also in a weird way that sonically VB feels like I'm looking at the crashing waves while Neptune feels like I'm in those crashing waves.
