No offense at all but I’d rather have a kind of gun and roses sort of country. Stupid…happy’s a cute song, but there’s something about it that might just sound dated after some point? 
 
I want country, rock, blues. Legendary kind of country, not something that fits in it just to have it labelled as a typical country kind of album. I want it to sound legacy, something more lasting that’ll really echo thru out music history

I've been revisiting Chemtrails lately and it's hitting as hard if not harder than that summer of 2021. It's one of her best albums, it's probably the most sonically cohesive after Honeymoon and it contains some of the most unique and intriguing songwriting she's ever done.
 
White Dress? Tulsa Jesus Freak? Title track? Dark But Just a Game? Dance Till We Die? Wild At Heart? Yes this album eats 
 
I'd love Lasso to be a Chemtrails 2.0 in terms of lyricism approach - the way she tackled some subjects with such tenderness and simplicity is a songwriting feat in and of itself.

That is one of my theories......but a different one is that Lana has said in interviews and in Fingertips that she communes with atleast one spirit (her uncle Dave). Expressing grief is a way of purifying the emotional space rather than letting it fester.... people often speak with or pray too the dead for guidance from the other side....it's possible that during a lowpoint lana , dwelling on the similarities between their and her stories, reached out to the girls for insight... I know that's really unhinged sounding and extreme for the normies but i have done similar before during rough times and it fits with the outro

How are people interpreting the Purify Me lyric? There's a lot to process but my first thought is that she's pleading on behalf of the women who were killed to at least be purified in death and granted safe passage to whatever comes next, rather than punishing them any further for their "sins" in this life.

i had no idea this song was originally just "cinnamon" but as a 💖neil young stan💖 i think its title is perfect!! the song's about a push and pull dynamic - her high high neglectful lover pushes her away, lana tries to find a way back in. at the same time, lana emotionally distances herself from him in an effort to keep the peace, cuz she just wants to be held without being hurt  the lyrics and meaning of neil young's song are rly intentionally vague - u don't even know if the "cinnamon girl" he sings abt is real or... anything abt her at all but at the v least, she's idealised ("i could be happy the rest of my life w a cinnamon girl"). this air of distance and dreaminess and unreality is what lana evokes w her song + by not talking abt the things u wanna talk abt and just letting the guy live, she's being v neil young's cinnamon girl cool girl monologue etc  "cinnamon girl" could also be abt an experience during her redhead born to die days lol

Oh geez, well, I mean what can I say now? What can I say now? I mean when I, when I gave Jack Antonoff his award, um, for best producer of the year, and I said, you know, in case, I said "Welcome Nashville to Hollywood and Hollywood welcome... Nashville because the music business has gone gawn country" and it went SILENT. Five thousand... people, DEAD silent, and then the next week, we had three major artists announce big country albums. So, where is Lasso going? I really have no idea now... you know what I mean??

It doesn’t sound like she’s scrapping the album, more like she’s just nervous about it.

I'm not reading too much into the interview, I think she just doesn't want to talk about Lasso in advance until it's time to roll it out. I also don't think she's worried about trendhopping, she literally said the music industry is going country so she obviously knew a bunch of big releases this year would be country. She probably said that to get ahead of it and show that she isn't just following the trend and has been working on a country album for years.
 
I have a feeling Lasso is still on track and she just doesn't want to discuss it right now.

Maybe she meant "What can I say now," as if she's talking to herself, saying "I'm so frustrated that so many artists are announcing country albums that I just don't know what to say to you about Lasso at this moment."  
 
What other artists are doing should make no difference. She's Lana Fucking Del Rey, having some of her best years ever, who cares if others are releasing country albums or if there is an actual trend in play, however it came about?
 
Releasing a country album is not an original idea in and of itself; it's one of the most recognizable and oldest of all American genres.   
 
So with luck, Lasso will be released on schedule.

Which I think it's good because it means she wants to keep doing her own thing, which is exactly why she's one of the GOATs.
I'd go full jazz/electronica/trap if I were her but I'm sure whatever decision she makes will pay off creatively. I just don't see it coming anytime soon. She's now living the things that are probably inspiring her into writing new material.

She should become a politician the way she dodges questions with such prowess

I'm speaking to her on June 7th (exactly 2 weeks from now, yes I'm getting very nervous about it) and I'm going to double down on Lasso questions.
