I think she just compares those people to birds of paradise for whatever reason - paradise (or heaven) is something Lana often sings about and it often has multiple meanings - for instance, she might be trying to paint people like Amy Winehouse as a heavenly creature.

People like Amy was never able to "fly" (continue to live) because she was "caught up in the dance" (the dance being with drugs or abusive men or mental illness, etc)

so these are the lyrics of the pre-chorus:

    This is my commitment
    My modern manifesto
I'm doing it for all of us
    Who never got the chance
    For... and for...
And all my birds of paradise
Who never got to fly at night
Cause they were caught up in the dance

I think Lana is saying she is doing "it" for those who never got the chance, i.e. the greats who unfortunately died young (Amy Winehouse, Kurt Cobain, etc.). Then she says they "never got the chance" because "they were caught up in the dance" - this probably means they got consumed by something whether that be fame, or drugs, etc. I was just reading on Genius that at a concert when she sang this song live, she sang  "cause they were caught up in the dance of cruel romance". I don't think the dance is something positive but more dangerous and addicting and difficult to escape.

    Hello boreds/boards!

While we wait for the single drop I've decided to do a little giveaway of the now sold out (?) white vinyl variant of the upcoming Did you know there's a tunnel under ocean blvd LDR album. I will cover shipping costs on my end!

Unfortunately this is open to North America residents only.

You will have between now and the album drop to enter the contest--simply "claim" your favorite song from the album, in this thread, to be entered. I will use one of those randomizers to select the winner on March 24th at 12am EST (9pm on the 23rd for the west coast).

Obviously you will not receive the vinyl before March 24th lol. I am not currently in possession of it.

I don’t give a damn, I’m claiming all of these songs. These credits are insane.

@Kintsugi are we setting ourselves to disappointment or is this album as interesting and adventurous as it sounds? I don’t want another BUS moment (love that song, was just expecting a different use of the electric guitar).

It'd be so cool if Lana directly referenced that lyric in Peppers  I love that she's sampling a song literally named after Angelina Jolie

people are going to be terrified of jack antonoff having vocals in a&w... but wait until it gives steven mertens' whispers in "trash magic"

But I thought Kintsugi was a bare piano-only ballad with Lana barely opening her mouth? Hmm...

‼️AHHHH ‼️ Tommy Sample must be “Angelina”. Father is credited as a producer on Peppers and he produced that song, only song on World Vision he did. this is big news lol

A woman embracing her autonomy and sexuality does not give you a free pass to sexualize her existence. Lana can write lyrics about her experiences without it being something other people, particularly men, use for a quick laugh or even to be a thirsty creep over. I think a lot of you tend to forget that you can be a fan of a woman whilst still not treating women in a respectful manner.

To tie this back to the album, I do think that Lana isn't going to shy away from topics like that. However, it's in her hands and it's her story to tell. It's not there for men to fantasize about her or make gross comments at her. She's a blunt artist and that's clear in her lyrics that we've seen from this album alone. But like I said, that's not a free pass for men.
