Anthem 1,559 Posted August 1, 2014 "I wear my red lipstick, grab my coat and gun Wonder if this is it, it's darkest before dawn Sometimes I wanna give in but I just have to go on Miss American now I'm gone, baby, gone Used to talk about where we'd be and where we'd go Now we know, baby now we know" "What's happening? Where did we go? The Jersey shore was long ago" (She should have kept the "what's happening" in OM because it gives [at least for me] a different and more sad feeling) "There's nowhere on this earth that I'd rather be Than in your bedroom breathing heavily" "Jim raised me up He hurt me but it felt like true love Jim taught me that Loving him was never enough" (So heartbreaking) "Mary prays the rosary for my broken mind" "You should never come between a woman and her dream and a man who never knew his place" All of Born to Die, PSB, OTTR, VG, AFFA, etc. And finally (though I could be biased because this is my favorite lyric from my favorite song by my favorite artist) "Hello heaven, you are a tunnel lined with yellow lights on a dark night" 1 Quote Goddesses don't speak in whispers. When she says "what's happening" it's like she's watching her relationship/life crumble in front of her and there's nothing she can do but look back on the memories. So much sadder/better.
Swan Song 289 Posted August 1, 2014 I've always loved "Been trying hard not to get into trouble but I've got a war in my mind" from Ride. Also that whole bit in ITH "You're a hard man to love and I'm a hard woman to keep track of". Every word of "Black Beauty" and "Is This Happiness," mostly because all of those emotions are true to reality (based on my experience). Also, the sadness is just fucking beautiful. I plan on getting BB quotes tattooed on me for my next birthday. BB is so lovely. What lyrics in particular were you thinking about choosing?
Creyk 11,744 Posted August 1, 2014 This final verse is just so sad it gets me every single time. Because of this I can't listen to the song very often even though it's so great Remember that little old cowgirlWaiting for you back in that red river valley (the way she pronounces these adds so much to the mood)Waiting back in that TallahaseeI love you

Im going to get "Life Is beautiful, but you dont have a clue." Its kind of to remind myself that when Im very down.

LiamViljoen 908 Posted August 12, 2014 The song Radio, to me, has always been more about the mood and the melody than the lyrics, which for the most part aren't that great. One line, though: "I heard the streets were paved with gold. That's what my father said" That line has always been really poignant to me. I guess other people haven't mentioned it because besides that line it isn't a very special song lyrically.

HEARTCORE 18,971 Posted August 23, 2014 The bridge of Guns and Roses always gives me goosebumps. "I can feel it coming in the air tonight See you working on that Blue Pacific I can see you bathing in the summer light You turn to tan and you look terrific" The lines sound more like they're from poetry than from a song; the imagery is just so strong and clear. The way she delivers it is heavenly too.
Lily 120 Posted August 26, 2014 WTF I thought they were original and unique with the life imitates art line and all of that She quotes Walt Whitman a lot, as well as other poets. "Life imitates art" is a quote Oscar Wilde; I believe it's from from Dorian Gray. I consider her a true original, but that doesn't mean she doesn't "borrow" from the greats. That being said, I really love the lyrics to Black Beauty, Young And Beautiful, Oh Say Can You See, Old Money, Last Girl In The World, National Anthem, Born To Die, Dark Paradise, Butterflies, Blue Jeans ... and so many others, but those are what come to mind instantly.

Lily 120 Posted August 27, 2014 What's your favorite line from Old money? I love the whole thing, but in particular: Will you still love me when I shine from words and not from beauty? * Those summer nights seem long ago so is the girl you used to call the Queen of New York City * And if you send for me, you know I'll come and if you call for me, you know I'd run I'll run to you, I'll run to you, I'll run run run I'll come to you, I'll come to you, I'll come come come
Just Cherry 3,814 Posted August 27, 2014 The power of youth is on my mind, Sunsets, small town, I'm out of time. Will you still love me when I shine, From words but not from beauty? My father's love was always strong, My mother's glamour lives on and on, Yet still inside, I felt alone For reasons unknown to me.
