sort of, she just made a blogpost saying a random lady in a pool told her 'there's nothing wrong with you' that and it made her realise that feeling like something was wrong with you/out of place was 'universal' and not just her problem, she brings that theme up on enjoy your life and life is strange too.

the allegations were made (publicly at least) in 2019, so the song was scrapped long before that, there could have still been behind the scenes drama though as she did rewrite and reregister worth it/if its worth it without jesse. there was an 'insider' on discord that said she didn't like tnwwy's verses so she put the song up to pitch but who knows if that's true, we do know she did write with intent to pitch in 2017 and the verses are the weaker part of the song for sure but I wish she just rewrote them if that was the case. enjoy your life feels like the replacement for tnwwy.

yeah this is true. A lot of people made fun of Weeds bc it was repetitive, Gold, Savages bc of the corny lyrics, etc… little did we know what was coming next

I fucking love Gold. My top 5 songs from Froot. It actually motivated me a lot when I was in an anxious time of my life. I haven't listened to it in a very long time though. But I still remember every lyric from my heart. And the production is so fucking cool, I have never heard this kind of "fun" sound which sounds actually beautiful.

My goodness some people need to lay off this woman, much as I agree with the points about her losing herself to the bubble of rich LA celebrities. She's been horribly ill for a long time and to our best public understanding, was in an abusive relationship for years and years. I don't enjoy all the directions her newer music takes and some of her art lacks soul, yes, but I really don't think we need to be this harsh on someone who has struggled this much for this long. And as much as L+F was mostly a flop, it is very clear to me that record was born out of a desperation to hide the abuse and illness she was going through and it breaks my heart that instead of seeing that album for the cry for help that it was, people just took to mocking the superficiality and subpar lyricism of it. I don't know how someone could listen to that record without getting chills from how obviously it is coming from a victim of abuse. I'm not saying anyone has to like the music but have a little grace for a suffering woman, goddamn.

Agreed, I think that L+F sounds a lot more sad now because in this lyrics you can see that she was actually desperate trying to find inner peace and happiness but somehow she just tried to "accept" it:

"I need to believe in love, why is what you give never enough"

"Sit back and enjoy your problems, you don't always have to solve them"

"Yeah, you break me down, yeah you shut out, but it's all about you"

 

Fuck, I kinda need to revisit this album one day. It has actually many beautiful songs and to be honest I have always loved it.

i agree. it’s a really fun song and i really don’t know why i hated on it for so long. it is probably because (and this is SO fvcking niche) i used to work in a theme park in the UK on a ride called 'bubbleworks' and the soundtrack to that song sounds so much like the gold beat so i was scarred from the amount of hours i spent in that ride station

proud to be a weeds and gold lover since the start! the only song i didn't like as much was forget but i eventually warmed up to it. i remember when the album leaked ahead of release… fun times lol that part probably wasn't fun for marina as it almost derailed the whole era but i had the greatest time

She very heavily alluded if not outright confirmed that Jack (Jack Patterson from Clean Bandit, they got together sometime after FROOT) was very emotionally/verbally abusive. (Allegedly of course in case this pathetic man is looking to sue random LB users lmao)

Many outtakes from L+F and some of the songs from the album too allude to this and she made social media posts and gave interviews after breaking up with him and moving to LA where she talked about it. I'll post links if I still have them saved but if you scroll her Instagram/Twitter from the time of her LA move or read some interviews from the ADIAML promotion era, you'll probably find what I'm talking about.

they were together until 2020 and worked on l+f together though? unless she is alluding to another relationship. i know she mentioned the panic attacks being a result of the relationship i never saw that she was emotionally abusive (though makes sense w/ the panic attacks so idk). so sad if she was

I've always gotten the feeling his influence is why the album is so toxic positivity and all the more honest/concerning songs were scrapped, I would not put it past him to try and control the public narrative by making her scrap the songs people could start connecting the dots from. There are still some songs on L+F that tipped me off to the fact that something was wrong but all the more concerning stuff was scrapped (Demons and Angels, Absent Love, Doubt Your Love, If It's Worth It, What I Wanna Do, Holiday to name a few)

she definitely let him influence l+f WAY too much and he is probably the reason the album is what it is (and why her sound has shifted so much). it’s a shame because her pre-lf outputs were so much more creative. we saw her regress back to her roots with ADIAML so im hoping the new album goes even further
