Deleted User 1,353 Posted August 13, 2015 This video is a MESS. I mean, I LOVE Lana with a video-game-ish gun, but the video has such bad direction. They couldn't even get a proper instrument case, the gun doesn't even fit, that's why they cut the take to one with her already taking the gun out... Seriously, I'm so underwhelmed
SoftcoreBabyface 262 Posted August 13, 2015 Since Francesco is a certified pilot (of sorts), I have been wondering if he is the man shooting Lana from the chopper. https://instagram.com/p/xXYkDwiIDS/?taken-by=francescocarrozzini (he posts plane porn quite a bit) Another thought I've had since August 10th, is that I wonder if there is some correlation between Lana dropping "High by The Beach" on August 10th. which is the same date as her ex-boyfriend's birthday (Michael Mizrahi). I can't help but feel that it's no coincidence, and also it would explain some of the going back to Lizzy lyrics and slightly modifying them to represent growth and empowerment since that time. OHHH and at 3:28 when Lana's running back with the guitar case, there is a flicker of a smile on her face. Her hair is covering most of her face in the moment but it's so endearingly evil. I see the menace in her for a second. Music is her weapon symbolism galore.

YUNGATA 14,955 Posted August 13, 2015 nice vid, although it's not super dramatic all through, seems pretty high budget w/ those swooping camera shots and the helicopter. The colours are nice but they didn't really get those "wow" moments as much as they should've like with SoC vid (think the swimming scenes and her walking down the street). I liked that it gave the song a little more context, and i realllly liked they they didn't edit out her dress getting caught lmao. but truly i don't think she's a great actress, at least in this vid. she doesn't convey emotion very well and her body is quite stiff and awkward when she moves around. overall like a strong 6 or light 7/10
Trash Magic 28,373 Posted August 13, 2015 Shades of Cool is still her best video. legendary 10 Quote "It's 2011, and we should all be aware of exactly how fast technology is developing" - Lana Del Rey
Coney Island King 26,002 Posted August 13, 2015 i like it but its fairly random and boring. the gun is cute.
Thunder Revenant 20,943 Posted August 13, 2015 It's so funny to read al lof this .. the video is supposed to be funny and NOT dramatic and plot heavy. It's not supposed to be "visually, sonically" etc it's supposed to be a cool, chill, strange and funny video and that#s what makes it so great. 2 Quote Just do it. Just do it - don't wait! SoftcoreBabyface 262 Posted August 13, 2015 Why has everyone adopted the notion that this video is satire, comical, supposed to be funny etc.? It reminds me of how Brooklyn Baby was perceived. I feel this falls more along the lines of surreal shorts of early cinema, there is symbolism in every sparse detail. Lana is rather awkward in the house but her fluidity of movement once outside is sexy, even the calculated dress snag.

Some things are not like this and this goes for both the lazy try-hard-atmospherical Ultraviolence video and I'm pretty sure that even if HBTB has some kind of meaning behind it, there definitly IS a satirical part in it. Imagine if she really wanted to give us a video like this or something like Tropico in FULL sobriety .. it would be pathetic. A little bit of tongue-in-cheek is nothing unprofessional. 1 Quote Just do it. Just do it - don't wait!
lanasgirl 3,800 Posted August 13, 2015 I just cannot understand why some people dislike the video so much??? I mean, of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinion but seriously... It's too hilarious to dislike -- the gun not fitting in the guitar case. So adorable -- her dress getting caught. I also LOVE the colours. I think the scenes where she's laying on her bed are beautiful, she looks fucking awesome. So beautiful. This is more ultraviolent than what we got during the Ultraviolence era. She's sassy, she doesn't put up with the media's shit and she looks gorgeous. I'm so proud of her!
KillForLove 13,361 Posted August 13, 2015 The base of the gun she's holding is a modified/painted version of this nerf gun which I used to have as a kid

SoftcoreBabyface 262 Posted August 13, 2015 I was going with the influences that Lana stated thus far. It was all about Fellini and surrealism, and what have you. Comedy just didn't come up until fans started saying it. I see some similarities in the camera movements, use of "wind", and colors that do remind me of surreal imagery tho. Only asking, not testing you or anyone else's sense of humor.

I dont dismiss the idea of destroying the media with her gun/music, but it could be executed so so better, especially with someone as creative as Jake Nava. I dont mind simple videos. West Coast video actually worked really well for the hazy atmosphere of the song and it complimented the emotion. But HBTB is her most straightforward pop song to date and if catchiness and the GP were ones of the reasons why it was released as a lead single, it should get a great pop video as well. This is too dull and it has literally no replay value, which could kill the potential of the song.
Miss Doing Nothing 1,694 Posted August 13, 2015 Masterpiece. I think the video is deep and has a lot of meanings. She had to think about a lot of stuff while filming. It is an usual clip, but nice. I like it. 0 Quote What’s this devotion? You really seem like a good man Bodies or oceans, I cling to you like your mainland
