Also, is "beige" the actual word used to describe something that's bland, boring, safe, etc?
Cause if so, that really is the only way to describe NFR.
I was holding onto this hope for so long. But Doin' Time came out which was exciting and the best for about 2 days... Then Season of the Witch came out which was exciting and the best for about 1 day.
Having some surprises floating in a sea of mediochreness just ain't doin it for me no more.

Imagine thinking that the instrumentation on NFR leaves room for your imagination. It's the most unimaginative production on any of Lana's records and I have heard L*st for Life. Honestly the only song on NFR that I'm like "Wow that's kinda cool" would be Venice Bitch, but even on VB there are sonic elements that make me cringe.
I honestly thought I was going to leave the eternal debate about NFR's sound and production behind in 2019, but it's shit like that makes it hard for me to let go and forget about it. Props to him for trying to create some sort of sonic experience on NFR, but with albums like Born To Die, Ultraviolence and Honeymoon I think that it's no easy task (I mean for him maybe). NFR just happen to be too safe and beige/plain for Lana, on top of sounding flat and ever so lackluster to me.
What haunts me the most is the way he bops his head frantically...

I honestly forgot that this existed. The fact that no one on LanaBoards has mentioned anything beyond that teaser clip kind of tells me that no one in their right mind would pay 300$ (or even some voidable monthly subscription plan) to hear Jackoff brag about the lackluster production/mastering on NFR.

She's my #1 hope for great pop music in 2013. Everything she's teased us with so far has been truly amazing, and I'll be so sad if her full-length fails to deliver. (But there's virtually no chance of that happening, right?)
Earlier this year, I bought tickets to Coldplay just to see her and Marina open. ^_^

west coast should have started playing when brad pitt punches the junkie, and then stares him deep in the eye by the time the first "i'm in love" is said, then they lip sync the rest of the song including the keyboard solo

Although UV is my favorite, I couldn't care less if she works with Dan again (but it's still very welcome, always ).
I also miss Rick Nowels. Not my favorite producer, but always had this feeling that Lana was comfortable working with him and that he would always bring the best of her. Birds of a Feather indeed.

jack antonoff wants to be dan auerbach, and the fact that this album is more recognized than ultraviolence is just another example of how whimsical politics run the music business.
that's jack antonoff for you!
i listened to it the night it was released and that's it (because i can't afford google play anymore anyway)
i just play the chords on my guitar and sing it myself when i want to reexperience it

I saw it at the 'Endless Summer' in Toronto. It was probably the most noticeably back tracked song (w/ vocals), but it really showcased the band for those of us who couldn't take selfies with her in the front row.
She opened that show with 'Cruel World' and sang her goddamn heart out. Wasn't a perfect show, but at the same time in retrospect everything about it makes perfect sense.
Also fuck awards and fuck grammys. I hope she doesn't win just so jack antonoff can cry about it

This is exactly what it is, "beige" as in "...this is as boring as watching beige paint drying on the wall". Glad to see I'm not the only one, the "honeymoon" period of the album is over now I think, especially with a lot of these critics backing down from their comments about Lana early on in her career, with these year end/decade end list. A lot of fans are seeing through the bullshit around (and with) this album.

i vaguely remember feeling it a bit with summertime sadness and video games... but then i heard 'cola', and then 'ultraviolence' came out, and i actually started listening to her music. problem with nfr is that i "actually" listened to it, and it's meh.
she'll surprise us again, anyway that's what i'm hoping for. she has us questioning our sanity all over the place

Yeah. Jack having his hands all over this record definitely helped Lana. Not in a music quality way, but in a "I'm popular and well liked in the industry" kinda way. Dan Auerbach is more of a mystery, he's produced a lot of different music projects and is popular from being in The Black Keys, but he's not hanging out with a lot of "pop" girls and getting his name out there (Grammys and other shady business insider stuff), unlike Jack.

Anyway, I've been reading a lot of comments on Reddit and Twitter. A lot of people seem to be questioning why NFR is getting all the love from critics as this year (and decade) is coming to a close. Her other album deserve to get the same type of recognition as NFR has had this year. I honestly can't believe they are pushing her most beige album down our throat as her best. I'm starting to feel like NFR is actually overrated, which is never a word I would've thought using to describe something Lana puts out.
